Chapter 132: Congratulations to Kanor for Her New Kitchenware
Even if Kanor couldn’t open the mysterious box, Lolth was confident she could manage it herself.
She had completely figured out the workings of the magical formation on the box. Though different from the mainstream magical formations used on the continent, it wasn’t beyond Lolth’s capabilities—it would just take more time to crack. Worst case, she could always force it open.
The reason she hadn’t opened the box earlier was simple: she had forgotten about it. If she had realized there was such a powerful magic circle on it, her curiosity would have driven her to uncover its secrets long ago.
However, now that the box seemed to resonate specifically with Kanor, Lolth felt it inappropriate to compete with her apprentice for ownership.
Following Lolth’s instructions, Kanor stepped forward to unlock the box.
Though she had started learning magic, the box was ancient, and its magical design was older still. Kanor didn’t notice the presence of the formation at all.
To her, it was as simple as opening her own storage chest. With an almost casual motion, she unlocked the wooden box with ease.
Lolth raised her eyebrows, sensing the chest’s magic “recognize” something within Kanor’s soul. That resonance caused it to unlock.
“Indeed,” Lolth mused, “all geniuses have some kind of extraordinary background.”
An orphan with mysterious origins and exceptional talent—it was hard to imagine she wasn’t connected to something greater.
Even so, Lolth had no intention of delving into Kanor’s past. The girl had a good heart, and uncovering her origins might bring unwanted complications. Investigating such matters often led to more trouble than it was worth.
So, as usual, Lolth chose to let it be.
While Lolth pondered her apprentice’s mysterious background, Kanor opened the box.
A faint but unusual magical wave emerged from within—a quiet, ancient aura, unlike any mainstream magic found on the continent or in the abyss.
Kanor peered inside, her face filled with confusion.
“What is this…?”
Lolth and the turtle leaned closer to look.
Inside the box floated a silver, reflective sphere, about the size of a frying pan. Its curved, metallic surface shimmered like liquid mercury, glowing softly.
Most striking of all was the way the magical energy emanating from it alternated—strong and weak in a steady rhythm, as though it were breathing.
“What is this thing?” Lolth muttered with a raised brow. “Director Ken’s magical prop collection?”
The turtle scratched its head. “Don’t look at me, Lord Succubus. I already told you—I couldn’t open it.”
Kanor, however, seemed utterly captivated by the object.
Though she was typically humble and thoughtful, something deep within her soul now whispered that this strange artifact belonged to her.
She reached out, her fingers trembling slightly.
The metallic sphere reacted at once. Its surface rippled, quivering as though trying to reach her.
The turtle, alarmed, turned to Lolth.
“Are you sure you don’t need to stop her?”
Lolth shook her head calmly. “It’s fine. It doesn’t seem harmful to her. If it is, I’ll deal with it.”
She watched as the silver ball’s movements grew more intense. When Kanor’s fingertip finally touched it, the entire sphere seemed to “unlock.”
Liquid metal poured out, flowing over her hand and up her arm. It spread to her shoulder and chest, as though wrapping her in a shimmering metallic layer.
Eventually, the silver liquid was absorbed into Kanor’s body, vanishing beneath her skin.
Kanor blinked, staring down at her hands, then turned to Lolth.
“Master… this feels like a magical creation. It’s tangible, but most of it seems to be made of magic!”
Lolth nodded thoughtfully.
“It’s likely some kind of ancient alchemical artifact. I don’t know much about such creations. I’ll write to someone at Demon King Castle—they’ve been researching relics from the Mercury Ruins.”
As Lolth spoke, the last droplet of liquid metal disappeared into Kanor’s body with a quiet plop.
“Can you still sense it?” Lolth asked.
“Yes,” Kanor replied. “It feels like it’s inside me… almost like a new space has opened within my body.”
Raising her hand, she summoned the silvery metallic liquid, which flowed smoothly from her palm.
“And I think I can control it!”
The metallic liquid in her hand began to shift. Its color and texture changed as Kanor focused.
First, it transformed into a kitchen knife. Then, with another thought, it became a frying pan.
Finally, with a dramatic flourish, Kanor stretched out both hands. In one hand appeared a wok; in the other, a spatula.
Lolth couldn’t help but smile. “Congratulations, Kanor. It seems you’ve found some truly unique new kitchenware!”
