Chapter 127: The Teaching Tool Exploded
“Yesterday, we explored the fighting techniques of the most common warrior professions. Today, we’ll delve into the most widespread magical profession—the wizard,” Lolth began, her voice calm but filled with authority.
“Before starting, it’s crucial to understand the six main types of magic.”
Lolth gestured toward a chart she’d prepared, detailing the magical classifications.
“The Wizard Association of Cloud City, building upon the ancient magical civilizations’ research, has defined six basic categories: elemental magic, nature magic, Star Spirit Magic, rule magic, arcane magic, and a miscellaneous category for magic that doesn’t fit neatly elsewhere.”
She paused to let her words sink in.
“Among these, elemental magic, nature magic, and Star Spirit Magic are the most common—eighty percent of wizards specialize in one of these three. Elemental magic, in particular, is the go-to starting point for most, given its variety and relative ease of learning. That’s why we’ll focus on elemental magic today.”
Lolth was dressed in a gray-white wizard robe, a rare change from her usual casual attire.
She had even gone the extra mile to create a proper learning environment. An empty room in the torture tower had been transformed into a spacious classroom for Kanor. Enhanced by a Space Magic Array, the room was divided into sections for combat, spellcasting, and life skills.
Now, the two sat in the spellcasting area, surrounded by magical tools: spellbooks, wands, potions, and enchanted artifacts.
Lolth reached into her robe and pulled out a clear Elemental Magic Crystal Ball, its surface smooth and glimmering faintly.
“This crystal ball,” Lolth explained, “is made from magical crystal ore found in the most potent magic-gathering areas of the continent. It’s an advanced teaching tool, and not easy to come by.”
She placed the crystal ball in front of Kanor, who was clad in a child-sized wizard robe, and demonstrated.
“Pour your magic into it, like this.”
Lolth lightly pressed her fingertip against the crystal ball, releasing a small stream of magic. The ball absorbed it instantly, and a soft, liquid glow appeared within, gradually settling into a pure yellow light.
“Elemental magic has four primary types: wind, earth, water, and fire. Other special elemental attributes are merely combinations or variations of these four. This crystal ball contains traces of each element. When you infuse it with your magic, the element you’re most attuned to will manifest as a corresponding color.
“The purer the color, the stronger your affinity,” Lolth explained, motioning for Kanor to try.
“If you find it difficult to release magic from your fingertips, try using your palm instead. Your training in meditation and basic physical exercises has helped awaken your magic. Now, focus on that sensation and let it flow out.”
Kanor nodded attentively.
The eight-year-old hesitated only briefly before placing her fingertips against the crystal ball, mimicking Lolth’s earlier movements.
Over the past few days, Kanor had come to understand why her master was teaching her extraordinary powers instead of cooking techniques.
If she wanted to become a great Itinerant Chef, capable of traveling the continent in search of rare ingredients, she would need strength to protect herself.
More importantly, Kanor had observed Lolth closely while she cooked. Whether chopping or boiling, Lolth displayed extraordinary skill, blending combat precision with magical heat control.
Kanor realized that cooking with magical ingredients required abilities far beyond those of an ordinary chef.
Thus, she threw herself wholeheartedly into her training, determined to prove her talent.
Kanor’s small hand hovered over the crystal ball, her confidence growing. She released a thread of magic into the crystal ball, her movements so precise and natural it seemed as if she’d practiced them for years.
Lolth raised an eyebrow.
She had noticed Kanor’s exceptional talent over the past few days. Whether it was meditation, physical training, or learning combat techniques, the girl excelled far beyond ordinary standards.
Kanor learned new skills at a pace that bordered on terrifying. Yesterday’s warrior training had seen her mastering basic weapon techniques—swords, knives, and even staves—in mere minutes.
“Given a few more days of practice,” Lolth thought, “she could surpass warriors who’ve spent decades honing their craft.”
Today, her aptitude for spellcasting was proving just as remarkable.
Kanor poured her magic into the crystal ball. At first, nothing seemed to happen.
“Is this… a failure?” Kanor asked hesitantly after a few seconds of silence.
“No, it’s not,” Lolth said, her voice laced with curiosity. She could feel the magic surging inside the crystal ball, though the reaction was unlike anything she’d encountered before.
“It seems there’s… some kind of response,” Lolth murmured, her brows furrowing.
Suddenly, her expression shifted.
“Be careful!” she shouted.
A surge of glowing magical essence erupted inside the crystal ball, flashing with an array of dazzling colors.
Crack!
A faint sound echoed as tiny fissures appeared on the surface of the ball.
Before Kanor could react, the magic within the crystal ball surged uncontrollably.
With a deafening bang, the crystal ball exploded, sending shards and waves of chaotic magic flying outward.
But Lolth was prepared.
With a swift motion, she released a complex spell, freezing the shards and volatile magic in mid-air. The room fell silent, the dangerous explosion halted in its tracks.
Lolth’s gaze lingered on Kanor, equal parts astonished and contemplative.
“This girl’s talent… is beyond anything I’ve ever seen,” she thought, her mind racing.
