Chapter 125: The Lazy Nobles Are Going to Be Hanged and Beaten
After taking a stroll, Lolth noticed something surprising: the Superoperators had fully integrated into Hillenbrand Town.
In the fields, they were sweating alongside the villagers, sharing jokes as if they’d been there for years. The elves patiently explained the growing habits of crops and the care of unusual livestock. The human Superoperators used their magic and physical strength to help move heavy supplies, following the villagers’ guidance as they unloaded materials from the Lemure transport team into the warehouse.
Nearby, several dwarves were engrossed in tinkering with enchanted farming tools, collaborating with Maider to study the principles behind Hillenbrand’s simple but efficient gadgets.
Even the once-pompous nobles, pointed out by Tina, were grim-faced but diligently working, showing no intention of slacking off.
The day before, they had left Palgauro City at night, arriving in Hillenbrand at noon. By mealtime, the newcomers—villagers, Superoperators, dwarves, and elves alike—were mingling in the newly built canteen, enjoying their meal as if they had always been part of this community.
The scene looked like paradise, where racial barriers no longer existed.
Despite only arriving a few days ago, these outsiders acted so naturally that Lolth, had it not been for their magical prowess and racial differences, might have mistaken them for the town’s long-time residents.
It was particularly striking how none of them wore anti-magic shackles or even considered escaping. Instead, they worked humbly and harmoniously alongside the villagers.
Curious about their transformation, Lolth interviewed some locals to uncover the story.
“It’s all thanks to Master Maider and Master Tina!” one villager eagerly explained.
“At first, they argued among themselves. The elves and humans split into two camps.”
“But in the end, most of the elves decided to follow Master Tina’s instructions.”
“The humans who wanted to resist were quickly persuaded by her.”
Another chimed in:
“The dwarves? Oh, they were immediately fascinated by the farming tools and buildings designed by Master Lolth. They’ve been singing her praises since day one.”
A third added with a laugh:
“At first, Master Tina even told them they could try to escape. A few did run off the first night, but… they all came back!”
“Once they returned, they believed her words, crying and wailing, saying things like, ‘Have I truly fallen?’”
“At first, they called the lord evil, but we argued back, telling them they were just parroting noble lies!”
“Eventually, they read the laws, worked alongside us, and saw the truth. Now, most of them know the lord is kind-hearted. Of course, a few stubborn ones still refuse to change.”
Another villager laughed as they recounted Tina’s discipline methods:
“Anyone who worked hard was rewarded, but those who slacked off? Well, they got what they deserved!”
“There was one noble who tried to be lazy. He got tied up with vines and whipped—Master Tina didn’t hold back!”
Piecing these accounts together, Lolth grasped the situation.
This group of defeated soldiers had been captured by Tina, who, mistaking their presence as reinforcements for the town, assigned them to work. Divided into teams, the group reluctantly began contributing to the town.
Through this process, the elves shed their biases under Tina’s influence, while human commoners recognized the tangible benefits of their new life. The dwarves, captivated by Lolth’s designs, connected quickly with the locals under Maider’s leadership.
The human nobles, though initially resistant, eventually submitted to Tina’s overwhelming strength and authority.
Lolth couldn’t help but marvel at how this seemingly chaotic situation had worked out for the best.
After some thought, Lolth decided not to intervene.
Despite the misunderstandings and oddities, the arrangement had proven beneficial. Hillenbrand Town gained a wealth of mid-to-high-level talents, while the defeated soldiers found a stable life, free from their past turmoil.
For a lazy lord like Lolth, there was no reason to disrupt something that worked so well.
“If it’s running smoothly, why fix it?”
Her only concern was their current living situation. The new arrivals were staying in the farmer’s market within the Southern New Development Zone, which wasn’t ideal. Alongside plans for a City Hall, they needed proper housing.
These Superoperators could also be invaluable for more complex construction projects. The second phase of the town’s development, which Lolth had postponed to allow time for training, now seemed feasible.
“In a way, it feels like this group was sent here just for this purpose!”
The second-phase construction plan would focus on building essential public facilities:
Pipes and Roads: Lay proper pipelines, repair roads, and install nighttime streetlights.
City Hall, Schools, and Hospitals: Double the original size of these facilities to accommodate the growing population.
Police Station: A facility previously deemed unnecessary but now essential with the influx of Superoperators.
Living Areas and Dining Halls: New housing and communal spaces for the new residents.
Lolth realized the Southern New Development Zone had become too crowded. The farming area needed to remain dedicated to agriculture, and a new development area was essential.
Looking across the Larech River’s tributary, she noticed the flat, open forestland on the west bank—a perfect site for expansion.
“We’ll need to build a few bridges first,” Lolth mused.
“And perhaps move the magic circle further west.”
With her vision taking shape, the next chapter of Hillenbrand Town’s development was set to begin.
