Chapter 124: Indeed, Everything Is Part of Master Lolth’s Plan!
“No… Is there something you need? Come in.”
After receiving Lolth’s permission, Tina entered the room, carefully balancing a fruit tray in her hands.
She hadn’t come empty-handed. Simple words of concern weren’t enough to show her sincerity toward Lolth.
As Sister Froer had always taught her, “Actions speak louder than a thousand words.”
Of course, Tina didn’t dwell on what Sister Froer might think about her applying this lesson to please a succubus. Right now, that thought wasn’t even in her mind.
After leaving her room, she had detoured to the kitchen, where she sliced fruits and arranged them neatly on a tray.
“I brought you some fruit,” Tina said softly as she entered. “After the long journey, I thought eating here would be more comfortable than out there. Please enjoy this to refresh yourself.”
Lolth glanced at the tray of carefully cut fruits, creatively arranged with evident effort. She was momentarily surprised but accepted the gesture.
“Ah… thank you.”
Picking up a slice of apple, she added, “You didn’t need to go through so much trouble… but I must admit, you’re quite skilled with a knife.”
Tina beamed at the compliment.
“Everything is for my master, Lolth!”
Practicing her knife skills during her free time had definitely been a worthwhile choice, she thought.
But Tina’s joy was short-lived. Her thoughts drifted toward Isabella.
After a moment of hesitation, she spoke cautiously.
“Master Lolth, I feel like something has changed between you and Isabella. Her attitude… it’s different now. What happened?”
The question startled Lolth, who almost choked on her fruit.
“Cough, cough… So, you noticed too…”
Apparently, everyone had picked up on the change between her and Isabella.
Shelldor had asked her directly. Ann had given her strange looks. Even Kanor and Old Harper exchanged knowing smiles whenever they were alone with her.
Lolth had thought the matter was still a secret, especially after Shelldor promised not to say anything.
But now, here was Tina—innocent, sharp Tina—immediately sensing that something was amiss.
Lolth couldn’t help but wonder: Was it really that obvious between her and Isabella?
Her reaction only deepened Tina’s concern.
“Just as I thought…” Tina murmured, her heart sinking.
Tina’s mind raced. From Lolth’s response, the situation with Isabella must have been serious.
At first, she thought she was merely falling behind, but now it seemed… she was already losing ground.
Before Lolth could say more, Tina straightened up, trying to mask her unease.
“Ahem… anyway, don’t worry about that. Let’s discuss something important. While I was away, what happened in Hillenbrand Town and the Southern New District? How are things progressing?”
Lolth’s question snapped Tina out of her thoughts. She took a deep breath, adjusting her mindset.
She knew that envying Isabella was pointless. As Sister Froer always said:
“Improving yourself is more important than envying others. Favor won dishonestly will never last.”
If she continued to prove her value—more than Isabella, who was only strong but lacked other skills—Lolth’s favor would naturally return to her.
“Master Lolth, I’ve been overseeing the Southern New Development Zone and the town’s construction in your absence. I haven’t slacked off for even a moment!”
Tina’s voice brimmed with pride as she began her report.
“In the past half month, the first phase of the Southern New Development Zone project has been completed and is now operational. Everything is running smoothly—except for the agricultural market, which is waiting for its first batch of farm products.”
“The tasks you assigned to the residents of Hillenbrand Town have been fully distributed. I’ve established clear evaluation and assessment standards, along with punishments for laziness, theft, or falsifying production numbers.”
“We’ve also incorporated these into the training courses for farming and animal husbandry and added them as supplementary items to the laws engraved on the stone tablet in the square.”
“As for the batch of Superoperators you sent, they’ve been properly settled. At first, they were resistant, negative, and even tried to escape. But after labor reform and education, most of them have blended in. The nobles among them are still a bit downhearted, but even they haven’t slacked off. I believe they’ll soon become valuable members of Hillenbrand Town!”
As Tina finished her report, her tone grew increasingly proud.
Lolth listened calmly, nodding occasionally. This aligned closely with her own observations.
But then Tina mentioned the most puzzling part—the mysterious arrival of the Superoperators.
“Wait… what? Where did they come from?”
Lolth’s confusion was evident. She hadn’t sent them. So how had they arrived on their own?
Yet Tina, oblivious to Lolth’s bewilderment, continued with admiration in her voice.
“Master Lolth, when I saw your Token, I understood everything! It’s all part of your plan.”
“The elves, with their natural bond to life, are perfect for managing the new farms. The human Superoperators fill gaps in labor and defense. The nobles can become future teachers in the planned school. And the dwarves—oh, their craftsmanship is invaluable!”
“This team configuration is simply flawless. I’m certain it was all part of your grand design!”
Lolth opened her mouth, wanting to clarify—but then stopped.
Tina’s description was undeniably accurate. This group was exactly what Hillenbrand Town needed right now.
After a pause, Lolth sighed and smiled faintly.
“Alright… I’ll go out and see how well they’ve integrated.”
