Chapter 117: Shelldor’s Suggestion and Isabella’s Reply
Shelldor naturally didn’t believe Lolth’s claim of “misunderstanding.”
“Actually, Isabella is kind of an acquaintance of mine. I’ve seen her many times on the battlefield and fought against her a lot… When it comes to fighting style, I think she might be quite similar to me. Strong, persistent, unwilling to show weakness, and both of us try hard to create a sense of reliability for our subordinates,” Shelldor picked up her cup and thoughtfully recalled her experiences with Isabella. “So, I feel… maybe I do understand her a bit.”
Lolth didn’t deny this claim.
In a way, Shelldor and Isabella do share some similarities.
Strong, genuine, confident… but not just that.
Beneath their reliable and steadfast exteriors, there seems to be an unexpected delicacy within..
Moreover, Lolth felt that rivals could indeed understand each other at times.
“Hmm… What do you plan to say?”
“What I want to say is that it’s not just the succubus’s ‘breath mark.’ Since I met Isabella this time, she seems to have changed a lot,” Shelldor put down her cup and looked at Lolth. “She would never show any obvious sadness that would make us ‘demon race’ notice—after all, she is a knight.”
Lolth wanted to argue, but in the end, she softly nodded, not denying the point.
Shelldor wasn’t wrong.
She had also noticed Isabella’s change and growing gloom.
And she fully understood—because, in terms of their real age, both Shelldor and Isabella were still just young girls who had only recently passed their teenage years.
Even though they possessed legendary strength and commanded armies, some things outside of war remained unchanged.
Lolth had witnessed how Isabella went from being cold and unapproachable when she first joined the Interrogation Department to now displaying various emotions naturally.
“Yes, but… I also don’t know how to deal with her. With her like this now, it’s quite troublesome.”
She sighed, feeling a bit helpless.
Lolth, who wasn’t very skilled at handling relationships, felt even more powerless in front of Isabella, who seemed to be struggling.
“You want to help her, right?”
Shelldor gently said to the slightly troubled Lolth.
Without thinking, Lolth replied, ‘Of course… After all, she’s now part of the Interrogation Department. Since arriving in Palgauro City, she’s been frowning all the time. Who could stand that?”
“Then why not try talking to her directly and encouraging her?” Shelldor said seriously. “I think she might need that—even if it seems like something’s… off between you two. Maybe after talking, you could clear up any misunderstandings!”
“How did you notice that something was off between us?” Lolth exclaimed in shock.
“In addition to knowing her, I also know you very well,” Shelldor laughed. “You might as well have it written on your face—Lolthlinda!”
“Well… But will just having a chat really help?” Lolth asked in disbelief. “After all, she is a Legend Level Knight…”
As she said this, Shelldor nodded with certainty.
“I think it will be helpful; if you believe in me, then let’s give it a try.”
“Alright, even though I don’t know if you’re joking or not but, I’ll give it a try,” Lolth said as she stood up. “It’s getting late, and I should head back.”
As she said this, she gently patted Shelldor’s head and said, “Drink less and go to bed early.”
After Lolth finished speaking, she took a leap of faith from the top of the Palgauro City Clock Tower and jumped down.
“See you, and… thank you, Shelldor.”
In the air, Lolth’s words were drowned by the wind, and she disappeared.
Only Shelldor remained at the top of the tower, silently pouring the last of her drink into her glass.
“I feel the same way…”
The Flame Sovereign sighed, her bright, clear eyes searching for the last place Lolth had disappeared, appearing nothing like someone drunk.
“Someone so similar to me… Is it simply because she’s human?”
The Red Dragon girl’s question went unanswered.
The succubus, whom she had wanted to ask directly, had already returned to the manor in the suburbs of Palgauro City, using magic to dispel the smell of alcohol before walking toward the room where Kanor, Ann, and Isabella were.
When she pushed open the door, she saw Kanor already asleep in bed, Ann hugging a box as if she were meditating, and Isabella.
Isabella, after taking off her light armor in loose clothes, sat on a chair by the bed, staring absently at the starry sky outside the window.
Remembering the advice Shelldor had given her, Lolth gently cleared her throat twice.
“Ahem, Isabella, could you please come out for a moment?”
As she said this, Isabella turned around, her gaze landing on Lolth.
Without much reaction, Isabella hesitated for a moment and then stood up to walk towards Lolth.
Then, she followed Lolth, quietly leaving the room and gently passing through the door.
She didn’t even notice that, as she stood, in the dark room, Ann and Kanor both slightly opened their eyes at the same time.
Following Lolth, the two walked through the long hallway of the noble manor and into the courtyard.
The aesthetic taste of the Lauren Duchy nobility was quite refined; the courtyard was filled with evergreen magpie flowers. Although it is not the blooming season yet, the white buds look very beautiful under the light of the stars and moon.
“Why did you call me outside?”
In the end, Isabella was the first to break the silence.
“I just wanted to stroll around and chat,” Lolth said, searching for a topic. “So… what were you doing just now?”
“I was just gazing at the stars.”
Isabella seemed somewhat uninterested.
“Oh, I see,” Lolth nodded, then added, “The stars are indeed beautiful tonight. In the Abyss, you can hardly see the starry sky… But there are exceptions. Speaking of which, ever since we arrived in Palgauro City, your mood seems a bit off. Has something happened?”Once Lolth finished her statement, she realized how awkward her change of topic had been.
“Hmm?”
Isabella was taken aback by Lolth’s sudden question.
However, for some reason, she thought about it for a moment before deciding to answer the question.
“It’s just… I remembered that my father had been here as well.”
