Chapter 104: Countess Chyzh Winchester
Treating over twenty dragons and dragon descendants proved quite simple for Lolth. With the spells in place, it was merely a matter of casting them one by one in sequence.
The healed demon dragons calmed down after their excitement and finally realized how unusual Lolth’s behavior had been.
Master Lolth seemed to have created a new spell on the spot to heal everyone.
This was truly a great kindness to them.
Many demon dragons felt even more respect and reverence towards Lolth, adding to their gratitude.
“Lord Lolth, what are your orders? We will definitely carry them out!”
“We will go through fire and water for Lord Lolth, without hesitation!”
“Lolthlinda, from now on, your commands will be the third priority after the Demon King and Lord Shelldor, which I will surely obey!”
These demon dragons thanked her excitedly, making Lolth feel quite uncomfortable.
“Oh, it’s nothing. Shelldor has already paid for me,” Lolth waved her hand and said, “No need for extreme actions… Just tell me what you know about those individuals in gray robes.”
After she said this, most of the Dragon race became even more worshipful of Lolth’s noble character.
However, they also realized that Master Lolth had important matters to attend to.
So they nodded one by one and shared what they knew.
“Master Lolth, I was ambushed one morning in the residential area of Palgauro City. Two individuals in gray robes cast this spell through a scroll…”
“I was attacked at noon ten days ago on the outskirts of Palgauro City by two sudden appearances of individuals in gray robes…”
“Hmm… I followed one of the individuals in gray robes to the abandoned church after the evacuation from The Church of Light, also in the morning…”
“Were all of you attacked during the day? I was attacked at night… a few civilians suffered minor injuries, but they quickly healed themselves—now it seems to have been due to magic.”
The demon dragon, wyvern, and half-dragon persons all spoke at once, making Lolth furrow her brow slightly.
From what they shared, it appeared that the attacks by these individuals in gray robes had no particular pattern.
The timing was uncertain—it could be morning, afternoon, or evening.
The attacks were unpredictable; some happened twice in one day, while others occurred a week apart.
The locations varied widely, from residential areas, streets, intersections, in front of churches, at the temporary outpost of the Second Legion, to inside taverns…
The only common point was that these people in grey robes were all targeting members of the Second Legion.
However, this behavior was understandable. After all, Shelldor, representing the Abyss and the Second Legion, had offended them. It wasn’t surprising that the retaliation was mainly aimed at the demon dragons of the Second Legion.
Moreover, this thing had a special effect against magic, so attacking civilians wouldn’t make much sense.
Although Lolth had roughly determined through these demon dragons that there had been twenty-two attacks in the past month, these attacks showed no specific pattern.
She even mapped out the locations of the attacks, but no matter how she connected the dots, she couldn’t discern the enemy’s purpose.
The only explanation was that the enemy was conducting random attacks without a clear target.
With the current clues, it was still difficult to determine where the other side was going or where their nest was located.
They would have to start from somewhere else.
“Have any of you heard any rumors about these hooded figures?”
Curiously, Lolth asked.
To her surprise, she actually received a response.
A demon dragon’s face showed a look of recollection.
“I do recall something now that you mention it. A human civilian who was attacked with me once said after the attack, ‘Those troublemakers that Lord Wint drove away are back!'”
“Lord Wint?”
Lolth looked slightly curious.
“It seems like a missing noble… but I’m not sure if that’s the right name.”
The demon dragon scratched its head and added.
“If you’re talking about Winchester, I might know who it is,” Isabella, who had been silent all along, finally spoke after careful thought. “Chyzh Winchester, descendant of the former highest senator of the Republic of Seychelles and also the sheriff of Palgauro City—she should have been the sheriff here before the demon race invaded Vera Plain.”
“It seems this cult also caused security issues during human rule, but it was resolved by the sheriff here,” Lolth touched her chin and said. “So this sheriff should have some knowledge of this cult called ‘The Final Church’…”
“I hope she hasn’t run away.”
Ann sighed.
“Even if she hasn’t run away, she might not be willing to cooperate with the demon race,” Lolth seemed unconcerned. “At least we have a direction now. She may have left, but the house can’t just vanish… Let’s go see what we find at Countess Chyzh’s mansion.”
With that, she set off again with Isabella and Ann.
It wasn’t difficult to find the whereabouts of a countess and sheriff’s mansion.
They asked a few local residents who seemed to know the area well and soon found the Earl of Winchester’s manor.
Unlike the luxurious scene Lolth had expected, it was a rather elegant and peaceful courtyard, quite different from the grand estates, magnificent houses, and castles of most nobles.
Chyzh Winchester was not just a minor noble; she was a direct descendant of the highest senator, held the position of sheriff with real power in Palgauro City, and moreover, she was an earl. She could definitely afford a large estate.
So why did she choose to live in this small courtyard in the middle of Palgauro City? There was only one explanation.
“She’s a noble who doesn’t care much about material luxuries and has refined tastes!”
Lolth sighed.
“The Winchester family has always had a good reputation in the Republic of Seychelles. I don’t know much about this Chyzh Winchester, but she is of my father’s generation. My father must have met her when he visited Palgauro City,” Isabella continued in a low voice. “According to my father, she is indeed an eccentric person… friendly to the point where she doesn’t seem like a typical aristocrat from a high-ranking senator’s lineage, and even more down-to-earth compared to those new nobles in Seychelles.”
“I quite like down-to-earth people.”
Saying so, Lolth pushed open the gates of the small Winchester mansion within Palgauro City.
Behind a simple courtyard stood a three-story building. Although it was bigger than a regular home, it was not much larger than a tavern in size.
The yard was overgrown with weeds, and dust had settled on the winding paths and steps.
Clearly, no one had taken care of this small courtyard in the past month.
Lolth and the other two continued forward until they reached the small building.
On the door hung a lock pulsating with magical energy.
