Volume 3 Chapter 10
by Golden DragonVolume 3 + Chapter 10: The Crisis Resolved
“Um… actually, like you, Ouyang-senpai, I’m a boarding student. So tonight, I’ll take care of your daily needs.”
With her hands placed neatly before her abdomen, Xia Bingdie bowed respectfully as she spoke.
“That won’t do!” Ouyang Qianxue waved his hands frantically in refusal.
What a joke, just this afternoon, Wang Qian had nearly beaten her up over seeing Xia Bingdie in a maid outfit. If he actually brought her back to the dorm, Wang Qian would probably skin him alive.
“Why not? Is it because I haven’t been a good enough maid and disappointed you?” Upon hearing the refusal, Xia Bingdie’s eyes instantly filled with tears.
“Hey! Don’t cry! Just listen to me! There’s a reason I can’t let you take care of me tonight!”
“What reason?” Xia Bingdie looked up and asked.
“I…” Ouyang Qianxue faltered. He couldn’t possibly reveal the truth, that she was actually a boy. Just as he struggled to find an excuse, Xia Bingdie burst into loud sobs again.
“I knew it! Ouyang-senpai thinks I’m an incompetent maid! Waaa…!”
Faced with Xia Bingdie’s uncontrollable crying, Ouyang Qianxue felt utterly helpless and had no choice but to bring her back to the dormitory.
At that time, Wang Qian was lying on her bed, reading a manga.
Creak… The dorm door was gently pushed open.
“Qianxue, you’re back, ”
Just as Wang Qian turned to greet her, she saw Xia Bingdie behind Ouyang Qianxue, still dressed in a maid outfit.
“Hello? Police?” After a brief pause, Wang Qian immediately grabbed her phone from beside her pillow.
“Wait! Can’t you at least give me a chance to explain?” Ouyang Qianxue hurriedly grabbed her arm.
“You’ve already lured her into the dorm, what’s left to explain? Do I have to wait until you make a move on her to catch you red-handed?”
“So that’s what happened…” Half an hour later, Wang Qian finally understood the full story.
“But Qianxue, do you even have a brain? If you let her take care of you at night too, then every move you make over 24 hours will be exposed to her. If you slip up even once, your secret could be discovered!” Wang Qian pulled her aside and whispered urgently.
“But I don’t know how to refuse her. The moment I say no, she cries like the world is ending.”
“How dense! Making up an excuse isn’t that hard.” With that, Wang Qian walked up to Xia Bingdie.
“Listen, Xia. Our dorm only has two beds, so…”
“That’s fine, I can sleep on the floor!” Xia Bingdie immediately prepared to return to her dorm to fetch bedding.
“Wait!” Wang Qian quickly grabbed her.
“Well… you see, your Ouyang-senpai snores extremely loudly. Every night I’m shaken awake by it! Not only that, she grinds her teeth, the sound is like a rusty saw cutting through wood. Add in her sleep-talking, and our dorm sounds like a heavy metal band at night. So you’d better go back to your own dorm. If you don’t sleep well, you won’t be able to properly serve her the next day.”
“You don’t need to worry about that. I’ve prepared in advance.” Xia Bingdie took out a pair of earplugs.
“But she also farts in her sleep! The smell is like rotten eggs soaked in durian juice for three days!”
“I have an anti-smog mask!”
“Ouyang Qianxue also…!”
Before Wang Qian could continue, Qianxue grabbed her.
“Please, could you at least describe me like a normal human being? You’re exaggerating way too much, heavy metal band, rotten eggs, what am I, some kind of walking disaster?” Ouyang Qianxue cried out in exasperation.
“Alright, enough joking. To be honest, we’re just used to living as the two of us. Having a stranger suddenly move in would make things uncomfortable. So Qianxue isn’t rejecting you because you’re a bad maid.” Wang Qian said seriously.
“Is that so?” Xia Bingdie looked at Ouyang Qianxue again.
“That’s right! Exactly that!” Ouyang Qianxue quickly confirmed.
“And besides, a proper maid should also give her master sufficient personal space. If you’re glued to her all day, it’s less like serving and more like monitoring. A good maid should consider that too. So for tonight, you should head back.” Wang Qian continued.
“I see! I’m really sorry, Ouyang-senpai. I didn’t realize I’ve been causing you trouble all this time. Then I’ll head back tonight. If you need anything, you can call me anytime, I’ll come immediately.”
After saying that, Xia Bingdie wrote down her phone number on a slip of paper and handed it to Ouyang Qianxue.
“Phew…” Only after Xia Bingdie had left did Ouyang Qianxue close the dorm door and finally let out a long sigh.
“She’s the one being my maid, so why does it feel more exhausting than when I was the maid?” Ouyang Qianxue flopped onto the bed.
“The way you say that makes it sound like you’ve actually been a maid before!” Wang Qian remarked.
At that, Ouyang Qianxue suddenly jolted, because she actually had been… and for none other than Bai Yuxuan.
“There are still two more days. If it’s too much, just tell Bai Yuxuan you’re dissatisfied with her service and have her sent away.”
“But if I say that, Xia Bingdie will be expelled from the student council.”
“That’s not your problem. And didn’t she cause trouble at the Go Club on the first day? She’d just be getting what she deserves.”
“But she’s not a bad person by nature. She did all this for Bai Yuxuan. And from how terrified she was of being expelled, you can tell how important the student council is to her. If she loses it now, she might break down. I know exactly what it feels like when something holds that much weight in someone’s heart… Just like my mother and younger sister, they’re my everything. Without them, I’d be all alone.”
After saying that, Ouyang Qianxue turned over and looked out the window.
“But Qianxue, besides your mother and sister, you also have plenty of friends and classmates who care about you, like Ning Caiwei, Duan Haichen, and the others. You’re not alone.”
“But if they ever found out that ‘Ouyang Qianxue’ is just a fabricated persona… that I’m not even a girl… they’d probably hate me. Maybe even despise me.”
After she said this, Wang Qian fell silent.
(If Bai Yuxuan ever finds out that Ouyang Qianxue is just a false identity… what would he think? Would he come to resent me?)
With that thought, Ouyang Qianxue slowly closed her eyes.
