Chapter 576
by post_apiChapter 576: Fishing
"You try, Jesse Seso!"
In the distance came Greed’s voice. Jesse, setting up a grill over here, looked over there. The dwarf was wiping the water off his face, bare-chested wearing only shorts, walking towards them with a sharpened wooden stick in hand.
His hair was mostly wet, he looked like he had just come out of the water. Jesse watched him and asked, "Weren’t you going fishing? Why do you look like you just took a bath?"
"The water is a bit deep," Greed dipped his head and beard in the water, saying, "So it’s your turn to try."
"I can do it," Mosa said.
"No," Greed said, "He is the worst at cooking, let him go, or else we’ll end up just sitting and waiting to eat every time."
"But I still need to make a fire," Jesse immediately countered.
"How much effort does it take to make a fire?" Greed said, "Just chant a spell, wiggle your fingers…"
Vereesa glanced at Jesse, reached for the button on her coat and said, "I can go."
Jesse stopped her, saying, "I’ll go, you stay here and make sure the Kaldorei sentry doesn’t spot us."
Greed handed a wooden spear to Jesse, sat down and watched Jesse, saying, "Are you sure we were caught before because of grilling meat? Or was it because of the smell of demons on you?"
Jesse watched the dwarf take off his outer cloak and shirt and toss them aside, shrugged his shoulders and didn’t respond.
"He felt guilty." Greed chuckled and said, "Maybe those elves followed him because they smelled the demon scent on him."
"Anyway, I’ve already ordered Molofeel to stay invisible." Jesse glanced at a crooked tree nearby and said, "She’s keeping watch over there now. If she still gets noticed by the Kaldorei, it means every corner of this huge forest is tightly controlled by them. We never fooled their senses at all."
"There are few Kaldorei people." Vereesa said, "I doubt they could pull this off. Remember, their true homeland is thousands of miles away in Ashenvale and Mount Hyjal to the north. Do they have enough manpower to watch over here?"
"But if something does happen, I will call you, Jesse."
"It’s not far anyway." Jesse nodded and headed towards the riverbank with a wooden spear in hand.
When he was little in Tirisfal, his father would sometimes take him fishing in the Alar river, so he had some experience.
He still remembered seeing bears on the opposite bank back then, but his father was never afraid of the wild animals. Sometimes, they even faced off with bears until the bears walked away.
Unlike the open and flat Alar and Nazferiti rivers, the rivers in Feralas forest were narrow and swift, with uneven riverbeds and small waterfalls formed by cliff heads descending from high places.
Jesse stood in the water, listening to the rushing sound of the water and faintly hearing Greed’s voice from the other side.
Before seeing the shadow of the fish, he took a deep breath and felt the natural vibes of the forest and river, finally feeling a bit relieved from the constant tension.
Soon, he noticed a fish shadow, remembering his father’s teachings that the shadow of the fish might not be directly below the fish, so he needed to aim a bit lower…
Jesse tightened his grip on the wooden spear, about to thrust it down, when suddenly he felt like something was watching him.
He looked up and saw a huge bear under a small waterfall staring in his direction.
That bear was unbelievably huge, standing upright below the short waterfall, with half of its body showing.
Jesse was pretty sure that guy wasn’t there when he arrived.
Of course, he wasn’t afraid of an ordinary wild animal. If it wanted trouble, he had several spells to ward it off, like a simple Fear spell.
A giant bear?
Just as Jesse was about to shout for help with a strange feeling in his heart, suddenly there was a loud splash behind him as if he had been hit by a car and thrown into the water!
As he felt dizzy and confused, something grabbed his foot and pulled him towards the water. He couldn’t even say "Unending Breath" as his arms and back hit the stones at the bottom of the water several times.
He couldn’t remember the pain anymore. He strained to look downwards at the direction he was being dragged, and saw a big dark shadow pulling him under the muddy river water.
Jesse didn’t have anything on him, no sword, no magic wand, not even clothes. The wooden spear in his hand had been knocked off when he hit the water.
He tried to say a Fear spell but as he opened his mouth to speak, water rushed in from the river, making his words incomplete and not quite right. However, he could still feel the dark power responding to his call… The giant shadow pulling him suddenly let out a muffled roar and let go of his hand.
The river here was much deeper than before. Jesse tried to swim towards the shore, but felt something creating splashes behind him. Before he could say another spell, he was flung out of the water, landing heavily on the bank. Before he could feel the pain, footsteps were suddenly approaching!
"Fereckert!"
Jesse turned around under the thick tree shadow and used Fear again. The shadow growled and tightened its fist, pausing for a moment. Jesse took the chance to quickly get up and move back. However, the shadow drew an axe from its waist and threw it at Jesse. He dodged quickly but still got a cut on his shoulder.
While Soul Link shared the blade’s damage, what about Molofeel?
He was ambushed by someone huge, almost as tall as Mosa or even taller, yet so good at hiding?
The axe flew out and chopped into a tree trunk, shaking the tree. Jesse used Gorefiend’s Grasp to snatch the axe back and shouted at the charging giant, "Wait! Rexxar…"
Without hesitation, the giant shadow threw a punch at Jesse, who took a few steps back but couldn’t match the speed of the oncoming attack. The punch hit Jesse hard, sending him flying to the ground.
The punch knocked the soul out of Jesse, but he already knew who the opponent was, considering their strength, so the impact was actually less than expected.
Of course, it was also because of Soul Link.
Rexxar caught Jesse in midair, raising his fist and shouting in a common language, "Speak, warlock! Who summoned you?!"
