Volume 1 Chapter 703
by post_apiChapter 703: Homecoming!
"This one truly possesses endless capacity for slumber… Did the God of Light cast some supreme slumber curse upon her?"
In the carriage’s interior, Patricia observed Lolth still lightly snoring within Kanor’s embrace, unable to restrain her inquiry. Three full days had passed since their departure from the Golden Peacock Kingdom.
With deities withdrawn from the mortal realm, the kingdom now stood devoid of both demi-gods and prince regents. Princess Dorothy found herself bound by duty to inherit the throne her mother had poured her soul into – even her near-obsessive devotion to Lolth couldn’t override royal responsibility.
Though truth be told, given a certain succubus’ mastery of spatial magic, residing in the Golden Peacock Palace differed little from dwelling next door to Lolth herself. Yet the parting still weighed heavy on the young royal’s heart. Kanor herself grew somber recalling the poignant image – Dorothy’s tear-streaked face bestowing multiple kisses upon Lolth’s slumbering visage.
When Patricia tossed out her aimless jest, Kanor merely responded with a soft sigh. "Master’s overexertion was too severe. Wielding such power while maintaining lower cultivation levels may be possible for Master, but that doesn’t negate… the inevitable toll."
Lalea, steering the carriage team, glanced back with arched eyebrow. "Spoken like one bearing intimate familiarity with such burdens."
Kanor fell silent under the observation. Their journey continued undisturbed, Patricia’s radiating magical presence deterring both monsters and fools alike from approaching.
Three days’ travel at mundane carriage pace brought them from Golden Peacock territory to the borders of Vera Plain. As they crossed into familiar grasslands, three pairs of eyes immediately spotted the welcoming figures of Isabella and Tina standing sentinel on the swaying meadow.
"You’ve returned! Though why does she perpetually sleep?" Isabella inquired, peering at the serene succubus.
Tina’s throat moved with a audible swallow as she studied the sleeping form. "Is this… exhaustion’s toll?"
Kanor inclined her head slightly. "Indeed, though I believe she’ll rouse soon. Regardless, no concern is necessary – this slumber was induced by Master Lolth’s own mother."
The revelation widened both greeters’ eyes. "The Succubus Queen visited the main plane?"
"Her arrival did occur, though not that maternal figure," Kanor corrected with a headshake. "The other progenitor holds considerable renown… being none other than the God of Light."
Twin expressions of utter disbelief blossomed across Isabella and Tina’s features.
"What?"
"Kanor… you can’t mean this seriously?!"
Their synchronized exclamations pierced the plains’ tranquility.
Lolth is the child of the Goddess of Light and the queen of the Succubus clan…
This revelation would astonish anyone, even those unacquainted with Lolth.
This held especially true for Isabella and Tina, who knew her well.
Upon hearing the news, both wore expressions of utter disbelief.
Then…
"If Lolthlinda’s other mother is the God of Light, this complicates matters… Our Ryman Empire venerates the Frost Goddess…"
"What should one bring when meeting a deity’s family? Even offerings from the Elf Holy Spring might seem trivial to the God of Light."
Simultaneously, both girls found themselves anxious about the prospect of parental introductions.
Though their own lineages were illustrious enough, each boasting demi-god lineage at home, facing the divine progeny of the God of Light…
Felt rather like reaching beyond their station.
As the paramount deity of the main plane’s pantheon, Lolth could essentially be regarded as the plane’s crown princess.
Observing the troubled Isabella and Tina, Lalea exchanged a glance with Patricia and shook her head.
"I once believed only Dorothy possessed peculiar thought patterns, yet clearly… every maiden smitten by that succubus develops unconventional mental processes."
Patricia inclined her head in thoughtful agreement.
"An accurate observation… Though we cannot discern whether affection for Lolth induces cognitive anomalies or vice versa—I suspect they weren’t particularly peculiar beforehand, but adoring that succubus catalyzed unprecedented evolution in their minds and souls."
Kanor studied the pair, acutely sensing the dry humor lacing the sorceresses’ remarks. Yet upon reflection, their words held truth, leaving the young girl no grounds for objection.
Finally, she could only exhale wearily.
Isabella and Tina overheard the mages’ commentary.
Rather than taking offense, the pair seemed struck by sudden realization.
"Wait… Where’s Dorothy?"
"Temporarily ruling Golden Peacock until suitable governance is arranged, after which she’ll abdicate and return," Kanor explained. "Her familial… complications have been resolved."
This account left Isabella and Tina momentarily speechless.
Lolth’s absence clearly involved extraordinary exploits.
The continental upheavals during these past weeks, coupled with her abrupt return, spoke volumes unvoiced.
"How regrettable we didn’t accompany her…"
Isabella murmured wistfully.
She’d grown so accustomed to managing Hillenbrand Town for Lolth that their past adventures together seemed almost forgotten—
A time when her heart hadn’t yet kindled this fierce devotion.
Back then… she’d even feigned dislike through awkward pretenses.
Tina maintained relative composure, though her eyes betrayed yearning.
Witnessing their expressions, even Kanor—staunch advocate of Team Dorothy—couldn’t suppress a sigh.
After brief hesitation, she spoke:
"Frostbound wolves treasure hearth’s warmth…"
"Visionaries seek horizons beyond tempests…"
"Where end meets origin, your planted saplings shall shelter you…"
"Sister Isabella, Sister Tina… Patience serves you better."
"When Master Lolth awakens, she may require your company on fresh journeys."
"Believe me—it shall surpass any adventure you’ve ever witnessed."
