Chapter 093: Secret Alchemy Room
Jesse followed the high slope towards the direction of the mine, then observed the settlement from a high vantage point near the mining town for a while.
Although it was called a mining town, it was hardly larger than the fishing village, with only a few houses and a main road leading to the mine.
After making sure there were no living creatures inside, he entered the village, searching every room to see if there was anything useful.
"Stop following me all the time," he looked at the imp by his feet and said, "Look around and find anything unusual, metal… money, paper, anything useful, bring them to me."
The imp shouted "Got it!" and darted out. In the sunlight, this little creature was not very noticeable among the weeds all over the ground.
After saying that, Jesse felt like a scavenger. But what else could he do now? If he couldn’t find Mageroyal, then he would try to find some useful things to exchange for money and buy materials to make Mana Potions.
Since Ursula was willing to help him make it for free, just buying the materials shouldn’t be too expensive.
From afternoon till afternoon, the most valuable thing Jesse and Saenor found was a broken pocket watch, the hands were not moving, and the glass on the surface was cracked.
Jesse didn’t know how much the pocket watch sold for in Stormwind, because those who had pocket watches were either nobles or merchants, or those scholars, making it seem like a very expensive item. He wasn’t sure if this watch could be repaired, so he wiped the dust off and stuffed it into his bag.
As the sky started to darken, Jesse looked at the lonely cave not far away and asked Saenor, "Should we go inside and take a look?"
"Should we go inside and take a look?" the imp repeated.
"I’m asking you!"
"Listen to Master’s orders!"
Jesse sighed helplessly and said, "Okay, you sneak in and look around. If you see anything suspicious, useful, or dangerous, come out and tell me."
"Got it!"
After saying that, imp dashed towards the cave entrance and disappeared in a burst of Arcane light halfway there.
Jesse sat on the steps beside the door, looking at the cave entrance, waiting for imp to come out. While waiting, he recalled the battle from last night.
Jesse remembered the spell that the Naga cast at the beginning…
Anuniki, Duzhazara, Kana.
He didn’t remember the first one, but the second time, it left a strong impression on him.
He recalled the effects of the spell, making him feel weak, almost unable to stand, and even simple movements were difficult. Was it the Weakness Spell? It didn’t sound demonic; it sounded more like the language of elves.
Could it be the magic improved by those Naga? This is like Shadow Magic, as it can be alleviated by using a Shadow Protection Potion.
Jesse softly muttered, "Anuniki, Duzhazara, cana."
Nothing happened, of course, as he had no target and didn’t make any spell gestures.
He could mimic the Naga’s pronunciation, but couldn’t replicate their spell gestures.
As the Naga have four hands, each hand moves when casting spells.
Jesse silently repeated the spell, as he had no pen and paper to write it down, so he had to remember it in his mind.
In any case, this spell was too important; if he could master the original spell, perhaps he could deal with some fierce warrior enemies resistant to fear.
As he continued to chant, the sky was already turning dark.
Why hasn’t imp come out yet? Is it dead inside?
Jesse couldn’t remember what the imp’s summoning spell was because it was too long. He searched his bag and found the note with the summoning spell and Strangulation Curse written on it, then looked back at the opening.
Jesse grabbed the stick on his back, ready to try summoning. He didn’t want to go deep into the cave himself, as he didn’t have Phase Shift. If he encountered something blocking the way, that would be trouble.
As he was about to start reciting, he suddenly saw a spark inside the cave.
The spark grew brighter… It was Saenor!
Saenor came bouncing out, dragging a torn sack behind him.
"Master! Master! Help!"
"Help!?"
Jesse ran over, grabbed the imp, and took the torn sack. He heard frantic screams coming from the opening… He knew that sound all too well.
Gnolls!
Jesse stuffed the imp into the Warlock Pack and ran off. Soon, a Gnoll came running out of the cave, covered in flames.
"Don’t run… little creature!"
The Gnoll yelled in a strange accent, and Jesse quickly ran off into the distance.
The Gnolls with their short legs couldn’t keep up with Jesse, who was used to running long distances in Stormwind. Even carrying multiple bags, he was faster than them and soon widened the gap between them.
Although the Gnolls were not fast runners, they were persistent. They chased Jesse for over ten minutes until he was almost out of breath. Finally, they lost sight of him. Jesse didn’t know where he had run to. He found a rock, laid down, and set the bags aside. It was then that the imp popped out.
"What… did you take?" he asked.
"See for yourself!" the imp eagerly jumped out of the bag and said, "The master will surely be pleased!"
Jesse opened the tattered bag to find a large bunch of dried herbs.
There were some unknown herbs and a few bunches of Mageroyal, almost identical to the plant Mrs. Furlbrow took care of.
No wonder people say there are lots of herbs around, but we can’t find a single one. Turns out the Gnolls hidden inside took them all.
But why does Furlbrow claim he has never seen a Gnoll here when there are clearly some in this mine?
"How many Gnolls are inside?" Jesse asked the imp. "Have you looked carefully?"
"At least a dozen! They are all huddled at the back, and they have an Alchemy Room inside, master!" Saenor added, "A very simple Alchemy Room where those Gnolls are constantly brewing potions, and there are many dead Murlocs inside!"
Dead Murlocs?
Before Jesse could think further, the imp excitedly said, "Several Gnolls are using multiple pots to brew potions. It feels like those Gnolls are almost suffocating! I sneaked into their herb storage room, grabbed a light bag, and escaped. You wouldn’t believe how many they have! Piled up… it stinks!"
This torn bag indeed had a faint smell like urine, extremely unpleasant. When Jesse opened the bag, the smell inside was even stronger than outside.
It wasn’t the dirty smell of Gnolls but the aroma of a particular herb.
He had a vague feeling that the Gnolls in this mine might be secretly making something, so they never ventured outside or bothered the surrounding farms, just to avoid attracting attention from Sentinel Hill or even Westbrook Garrison.
Could those bodies mean that they were testing some poison? Is it Gnolls fighting Murlocs, or do they have other plans?
Jesse couldn’t destroy this nest on his own. The medicine in this bag needs to be identified quickly to see what exactly it is, and to see what kind of potions can be made from these herbs.
