Chapter 143
Chapter 143: Unforgivable
"It’s back again!"
Cries with a sobbing tone echoed from somewhere unknown, followed by fearful screams coming from another street.
Greed pulled Jesse and said, "Don’t just stand there, run! Find a place to hide!"
The two of them rushed into a stone house with the little girl, into the alley behind the wall that wasn’t yet on fire. A dark shadow passed over their heads, followed by two or three helpless purple magical missiles.
In the distance, there were loud explosions followed by shouts. Soldiers were cursing and yelling angrily, and their voices could be heard clearly even across several streets.
"What does this darn beast want to do? Completely destroy this town?! Too arrogant!" Greed shouted.
"Stay here, hide, child, don’t go out! Wait for that monster to leave before looking for your parents!"
The child nodded, then Jesse followed Greed out of the alley. They saw the giant shadow turn in mid-air and fly to the other side of the town hall, causing a strong wind that extinguished many flames nearby, making it difficult for Jesse and Greed to stand steady.
What kind of dragon is this… an adult dragon, or a young dragon?
Jesse had no real concept of how dragons looked in the real world of Azeroth. Considering that gryphons looked more like mythical creatures than in the game, dragons might not be as cartoonish.
Just based on a rough impression from the game, that figure from before seemed more like a young dragon.
But how could a young dragon cause such destruction? If it’s a young dragon… shouldn’t there be hordes of minions with it?
He realized that he had made the mistake of comparing game settings to the real world before. He needed to correct his understanding quickly and not judge these situations prematurely.
The dragon flew away behind the houses, as he looked around, a man on fire jumped into the sea shouting. Another person collapsed on the pier before jumping into the sea, some people rushed to help put out the fire on him but couldn’t extinguish the flames.
An unpleasant burning smell filled the air, making Jesse feel more and more nauseous. He couldn’t tell if it was the emotional pressure causing physical distress or if the strange smell was truly unbearable.
He faintly felt that it was the power of darkness, belonging to the dragon race that could use Shadow Power.
The town was in chaos, most soldiers didn’t have long-range weapons and were either standing helplessly or busy with firefighting and rescuing people.
The bell at the top of the town hall kept ringing, a Lordaeron knight tried his best to calm his panicking horse at the street corner, almost falling off several times.
He shouted loudly, "We need mages, we need all combat-ready warriors… archers, hunters, anything! Reinforcements are on their way!"
Some mages ran over from the other side of the street, their once bright robes covered in dust and faces sooty.
Jesse knew they not only had to hunt down the dragon but also had to help the suffering civilians in the town. They couldn’t afford to spend too much magic on teleportation spells like Blink Spell, so they had to rely on their legs to chase, which was limited in this situation.
Suddenly, a sharp whistling sound came from the sky.
Upon hearing the whistle, Greed suddenly looked up.
"It’s them… it’s my brothers!"
Jesse’s mind had not yet figured out who Greed’s brother was when a very fast shadow rushed from the distant pine forest onto the street!
It was a smaller gryphon, but very fast. The rider on top was not clearly visible, but the sparks in his hand stretched very far in the smoky sky…
A Gryphon Rider!
Greed shouted loudly in Dwarven Language, and the rider in the sky seemed to hear him. They responded with a similar sentence, laughing loudly. The sound suddenly became closer and then gradually disappeared as the gryphon flew further away. Greed followed the dragon’s shadow!
Greed was so excited that he almost burst. He wished he could find a rocket to send himself into the sky to join the battle, but Jesse felt tense in his heart.
Can the Gryphon Rider defeat that dragon?
Where are his teammates? Why is there only this one knight?
Jesse looked in the other direction, but no other gryphon appeared.
He didn’t have time to think much as Greed had already chased after the Gryphon Rider, and he had to follow.
After passing a few houses, a strong wind suddenly swept over them. Jesse looked up and saw a dragon flying overhead, followed closely by a gryphon. They were engaged in a chase over Southshore!
They reached a clearing and saw the dragon soaring higher into the sky, its shadow shrinking rapidly. The gryphon, being faster and more agile, swiftly caught up.
Greed shouted hoarsely, as if trying to boost the Gryphon Rider with a battle cry, but both figures became blurry in the high altitude.
Suddenly, there was a flash of lightning without a doubt, it was the Gryphon Rider attacking!
Many soldiers from Southshore looked up to cheer on the Gryphon Rider with slogans of alliance echoing around them. Some even climbed onto rooftops to shout.
A dragon roar resonated through the sky, and Greed laughed, saying, "He can’t handle it, the evil dragon is trying to escape!"
Jesse’s anxious heart eased a bit after hearing Greed’s words. After a while, the shadow of the dragon suddenly appeared, rapidly growing larger. Its wings folded in, clearly diving towards them.
The townspeople who were cheering loudly suddenly fell silent when they saw what happened. Cheers turned into screams, people fleeing and jumping off buildings.
When the dragon got closer to the ground, Jesse finally saw its appearance… dark brown scales, blood-red to purple wings, this was not the Red Dragon, it was indeed a black dragon!
Everyone prepared to be engulfed in flames by the black dragon, only to realize that the dragon’s target was not the crowd at all!
As it dived towards the ground, it suddenly pulled up and the silhouette of a gryphon appeared behind it!
Oh no… the dragon is turning back!
Just as Jesse’s heart was aching, a blinding lightning bolt flew out from the gryphon, chasing and hitting the black dragon’s left wing, a series of electric shocks piercing through its wing and chest!
However, the black dragon let out a sharp cry of pain, then suddenly spewed a large burst of blood-red flames!
No…
The Gryphon Rider’s dive was too fast… it couldn’t stop and crashed into the flames! Then, from the other side, with dark smoke, it flew out, crashing into a group of houses, kicking up a large cloud of dust and debris.
The black dragon cried out wanting to fly higher, but could only sway in the sky flying northward with difficulty, its altitude getting lower and lower.
Its wings were clearly injured, it seemed it couldn’t fly much further.
Where is the Gryphon Rider?
Greed cursed and ran towards where Gryphon Rider was falling, crossing a few alleys to reach that street.
Across the street on the corner, the dark green gryphon was lying in the ruins, its neck twisted at a horrible angle, its intestines and organs spilling out with steaming heat, its feathers still burning with dim flames, emitting a foul smell.
The stench was not coming from the gryphon’s intestines or blood.
Greed looked around the gryphon, calling out in Dwarven language, but got no response.
Jesse noticed a house with its roof pierced by something, black smoke coming out of the hole, a young girl clearly frightened, running out crying.
"This way… Greed, over here!"
Rushing into the house, a burnt smell mixed with a strange and unpleasant odor hit me, and the Gryphon Rider was right there in the corner.
The knight’s body was badly burned, and due to the heavy impact, his whole body was broken, like a puppet damaged by a disobedient child, lying in an unimaginable position.
He was dressed similarly to Greed, with a similar hairstyle tied at the top, but due to the traces of blood and fire burns, his original skin and hair color were no longer visible.
Jesse looked at him, even feeling a sense that he was Greed.
Didn’t the Gryphon Rider know that the black dragon could counter-attack them with flames?
Jesse remembered what Greed had said – if the gryphon believed the sacrifice was valuable, they would not retreat.
Would the Gryphon Rider rather die than not intercept the black dragon?
The Hinterlands lay to the northeast, if the black dragon intended to fly in that direction, it could arrive in one or two days.
At that moment, Greed also ran in, and upon seeing the dwarf, his face almost froze.
His hands were shaking uncontrollably, Jesse could even hear his teeth constantly clashing due to anger.
"No… can’t…"
He bent down beside Dwarf Knight, wanting to touch his body, but was stopped by Jesse.
"Don’t touch… that’s the Black Dragon’s fire, Greed!"
"Damn it!" Greed cursed and stood up again, he looked around but didn’t find what he was looking for, then ran out of the house, finally finding that thing behind the house.
A war hammer with dwarf runes, with a faint electric aura floating above it!
Jesse watched as Greed lifted the war hammer, suddenly a series of sparks burst out into the air as if ignited again.
"I’ll kill this beast." Greed stared at the hammer in his hand, roaring madly, "I’ll go kill this beast! Now, right now!"
This time Jesse didn’t try to persuade him, he couldn’t speak.
Southshore had turned into this appearance. When leaving in the morning, everything was peaceful and calm, but all of a sudden, everything started burning.
All because of the mysterious appearance of the evil dragon here.
"Wait for me here, Jesse."
Greed said and then turned away.
"I’m coming with you!"
