Chapter 092: Missing Key Data
Opening his eyes, it was still nighttime outside.
What time is it now? Did he sleep for a whole day or just an hour?
Jesse touched his side and felt a strong sense of emptiness.
Of course, he didn’t have his phone.
"Saenor… Saenor?"
In a daze, he called out twice, and suddenly realized that imp was no longer in the warehouse.
This fact made him instantly alert, his whole body tensing up.
Not only was imp missing, but his package was gone too, the Naga fish scales, the beads on his hands…
What happened?
Jesse touched his body, his pants were still on, his shirt was underneath him, he didn’t lose any arms or legs, his hair was intact, and he wasn’t injured… He searched around his sleeping spot and finally found the broken knife, but the big problem was that the stick was missing.
What’s going on? Did someone come in… or did Imp betray him and steal all his valuable things?
He immediately recited the Strangulation Curse spell he had memorized, hoping that if this guy had left without his permission, he would no longer exist. However, after finishing the spell, nothing happened. Did Imp die?
Something’s not right. Jesse didn’t feel any Shadow Power dancing with his spell, like when he summoned Imp or used Fear.
Is this spell fake?
That’s impossible. He saw Gakin use this spell to kill the Imp that was just summoned in the basement.
What exactly happened? Could it be Naga’s comrade seeking revenge?
He tightly held the knife and approached the door, peeking outside.
The night was so dark and scary, even the twin moons were nowhere to be seen. Was it going to rain?
He couldn’t smell any dampness in the air or feel the soil, nor could he sense any fresh natural scents. It felt as if everything here was dead.
At that moment, he heard someone calling his name.
Jesse turned towards the direction of the sound and saw a blurry figure among the chaotic weeds not far away on the farm.
Wait, that name isn’t his real name in this lifetime!
Something wasn’t right, this wasn’t reality at all.
It must be some trick caused by that Naga’s magic. He must have been hit by Fear without even knowing it, now experiencing its aftermath.
Jesse gritted his teeth, cut his finger with a knife to try to wake up faster, but after a sharp pain, he watched in despair as the blood flowed from his finger to his palm, utterly useless!
He winced in pain, what was he going to do now?
Looking over there again, suddenly a familiar face was right in front of him, scaring him so much that he almost fell down with a jump.
This is… a girl’s face, he couldn’t quite figure out who this was, but he had a feeling he had seen her somewhere before.
But this face, with its closed lifeless eyes, purple-red blood flowing from the corners, lips trembling non-stop, this distortion made him unable to relate it to anyone he had ever known.
Behind her face was the body of a giant snake, unlike the dead-like cheeks, this snake’s body kept twisting and coiling, rubbing its scales together to emit a deathly warning, its tail tip shaking wildly, as if mocking Jesse’s fear.
Jesse roared and slashed the eerie cheek, the giant snake made a hissing roar and darted into the bushes.
"Come on! Come here! I really want to see what darkness can do, what strange things you can create!"
"So what do you expect?"
Hearing this, Jesse looked behind the sound and saw the girl lying there, her lower body still a snake, but her upper body now turned into a person, completely exposed.
Jesse swallowed, moistening his dry throat, and had to admit, that was quite shocking.
Just as Jesse was standing still in surprise, the snake-like monster suddenly twitched its lower body muscles, lunging right in front of Jesse. Before Jesse could react, he was grabbed by the neck and lifted into the air.
His wet and slippery skin pressed against his arms, chest, and cheeks, making him feel not like he was being lifted, but more like being hugged.
The Sethrak’s long tongue slid from his neck down to his chest and abdomen. Surprisingly, Jesse didn’t feel any danger, instead, his mind was filled with strange thoughts.
This must be a dream, he thought. Whatever he wanted to do, he could do it.
After a moment of palpitations, Jesse felt the strong will to resist had rapidly melted away, as if it had fallen into a highly corrosive solvent. His once clear mind began to lose the ability to think actively.
Now, he just thought, there’s no harm anyway. If he waited a bit longer, the lower body should appear, right?
Wait, is there really no harm in this?
This is a dream of shadows, he subconsciously felt, he must not succumb to… cannot yield to these things. But he felt like his whole body was being consumed by desire, with all perception reduced to a rhythmic, unreal electric current constantly shocking his brain. Absolutely not… He struggled to grab the huge snake coiling around him, trying to tear it off forcefully, when suddenly the girl’s face split in half along the cut of his swinging knife! Like a melon splitting open, blood, flesh, bones clearly visible, and two eyes from a distant place simultaneously looking towards him.
A burst of violent screams pierced Jesse’s mind, and he shouted as he sat up, realizing it was already morning.
"Master?" Saenor sat on the other side of the barn, watching over here, "Why are you roaring so loud?"
Jesse wiped the sweat off his neck with his finger and said, "I just had a dream."
Remembering the things in the dream, he felt a bit regretful that it didn’t continue.
Is it because of the lack of experience that crucial data is missing, causing the jump? But it’s too strange to deal with a snake, isn’t it?
Actually, it’s not that strange.
In a moment of emptiness, he subconsciously hummed the tune of "Once in a Millennium" while packing up his luggage, having a bit of dry bread, and getting ready to leave this abandoned farm.
The autumn air was clear and cool, and Jesse could see the scattered ruins of houses in the distance from a slightly higher place.
It was an abandoned town, and according to the soldiers of Westbrook Garrison, it should not be the so-called West County, but the mining town outside the Jangolod Mine.
Exactly where Furlbrow claimed to have hidden with his wife during the war.
Looking at the endless hills and fields, Jesse sighed deeply. Mageroyal… how am I going to find it?
He couldn’t find any Silverleaf along the way, despite the abundance of farms in Westfall. After walking for a while, he still couldn’t find any herbs.
Could it be lacking a Ley Line Node here, so not many magical plants grow?
Ursula Deline was so sure there were many Mageroyal on these hills. Since Furlbrow said not many people come here anymore, there shouldn’t be anyone to compete with for herbs.
Jesse didn’t see any signs of Gnolls along the way, no camps or living Gnolls. So there shouldn’t be any Gnoll Herbalists competing with him.
