Chapter 088: Visitor From the Abyss
"Hey, can you hear me talking?"
The other person didn’t say anything.
"Who are you?"
The other person remained silent.
Jesse started to feel strange. Could it be that people related to this fishing village don’t like to answer questions?
He probably understood the meaning of the song. Could this woman be the wife of that soldier?
Instinctively, he took a step back. If this were Earth, he would definitely rush to save this woman without hesitation.
The woman squatting by the sea, staring motionless at the sea shore, maybe she wants to commit suicide.
But Azeroth… it’s hard to say.
Could it be a female ghost? Azeroth… but there really are ghosts.
If Coconut face turned back at this time, Jesse would have been scared solid.
At this moment, the singing faded away.
Jesse was starting to feel uneasy. He took two steps back, then two more, deciding it was better to be safe than sorry.
Since things had gotten so creepy, Jesse felt like he had done his best by leaving the woman here, even if she really had been taken away by Murloc. After all, she had ignored him.
Now the urge to survive was stronger than the impulse to be brave.
Just then, Jesse saw the woman’s golden hair flutter slightly, as if a sea breeze had blown by.
However, he didn’t feel any sign of wind movement in that moment.
And her hair remained lifted, never falling back down.
Jesse felt goosebumps all over his body.
The flowing golden hair was not really hair at all! It was a fish fin! A golden fish fin!
The woman slowly turned… Her face was stiff like a dead fish, her skin glistening with a wet sheen under the moonlight, her bulging eyes glowing with a magical light, and a bright red tongue suddenly darted out from her tiny lips and quivered.
Naga!
The song was not about missing her husband at all, it was a bewitching melody to lure sailors to their deaths!
Startled, Jesse shuddered and ran, skipping and hopping towards a higher building. Suddenly, he heard the Naga behind him mutter something. The quiet night made it sound like he could hear the Naga whispering in his ear.
It seemed to be "Anunagi…"
Jesse felt his legs go weak, unable to support his body as he took several unsteady steps, tumbling onto the sandy beach.
He tried hard to lift himself up, but his arms were too weak to even raise his upper body.
When he turned back, he saw the Naga emerging from the sea, revealing its lower body, its scales shimmering with an eerie glow under the moonlight.
Her upper body was bare just like any other person, and the graceful contours of her waist, abdomen, and chest had very few equals among humans.
But at this critical moment, Jesse had no mood to appreciate it at all. He knew he had been affected by some kind of weakening magic and could clearly feel the intrusion of external magic power rampaging through his muscles and veins, disrupting his senses.
He opened the bag, reached in and grabbed the Shadow Protection Potion, uncorked it, and gulped down a mouthful, shouting, "Saenor! Saenor!"
After drinking the potion, a sharp spicy taste pierced through his chest into his esophagus, but in the blink of an eye, Jesse felt his arms and legs regaining strength after just swallowing a mouthful of saliva.
Imp appeared in a burst of Arcane light, facing the approaching Naga Siren without fear, still maintaining his usual strange and arrogant appearance.
"Struggling on your own again, master, huh?" he shouted loudly, waving his hands to conjure a ball of flame. Naga hesitated as she saw this demon and spun her serpentine tail in the mud on the shore.
Suddenly, flames engulfed Naga’s body. She roared and muttered a blurry incantation, causing a splash of water to gush out from beneath her feet, splashing all over her body but failing to extinguish the fire completely.
"Demon…" Naga snarled in the common tongue, "Get out of Azeroth."
Naga did not try to dispel the imp’s sacrificial magic but instead began casting another spell on the spot. She chanted under her breath, releasing a wave of void energy from her hands, making the previously confident imp panic.
"Master, she wants to banish me! Quick! Quick, let me switch phases!"
"Why don’t you just leave on your own!" Jesse shouted loudly.
"I cannot desert my master and escape on my own!"
"Phase Shift!"
Upon hearing Jesse’s shout, imp immediately disappeared in a burst of Arcane light.
"Hiss!" Naga stopped casting spells, quickly shifted her gaze to Jesse, but by then Jesse had just taken the stick off her back.
Seeing Naga getting ready to attack, he immediately turned and ran towards the house, thinking that Naga’s large snake-like body wouldn’t run fast enough on land to catch up with him. As long as he ran out of her casting range, he would be saved!
Naga chanted another spell, this time Jesse could clearly hear — Anuniki, Duzhazara, Kana!
It didn’t sound like a Demonic spell, but Jesse couldn’t think about such complex matters at that moment.
He felt his legs go a bit weak. Oh no, could that weak spell be working again?
But after a while, his legs just felt a bit weak. He could still run, still sprint with all his might. The Shadow Protection Potion had worked.
As long as he didn’t feel the signs of the protective potion wearing off, it meant the Naga’s Shadow Magic hadn’t broken through the potion’s shield. He didn’t need to worry too much!
Just a few seconds later, he heard a very sharp ringing sound. This was the sound of Arcane magic, but Jesse had never heard such urgent and piercing Arcane noises before.
Suddenly, a bright light behind him, as if someone was shining a flashlight towards him. Curiously, Jesse turned around and saw an Arcane energy blast flying straight at him!
Oh no!
Jesse quickly jumped to the side and rolled on the ground. The Arcane Missile hit where he was standing, causing a bright flash and explosion!
Dirt splattered on his back as Jesse got up to run, only to be hit by another flying missile. The intense explosion almost knocked him down, and falling at this crucial moment would have been fatal! This was a powerful mage… likely much stronger than those show-offs he had seen in the Mage Quarter. Jesse felt his heart pounding loudly, almost deafening him. He pushed away his fear and ran as fast as he could, not looking back.
When he reached a few houses, he looked back and the Naga was gone.
Where did you go?
Jesse looked back and forth between a few houses, not daring to run further away from the coast now. What if the other person was waiting for him over there?
What if this Naga knows some kind of teleportation magic… Will there be a way out then?!
Darn it… Why didn’t anyone mention there were Nagas here?
How come there’s a Naga here?
Or are these Murlocs being controlled by the Naga? Are they really here to disturb Stormwind?
This doesn’t make any sense at all.
Jesse tried to push these wild thoughts out of his mind as much as possible. Right now, his priority is to take down this Naga no matter what, everything else comes second. Take down this Naga…
He kept repeating Fear’s spells in his mind, preparing to strike big as soon as this Naga shows up. He remembered the instructions Malin gave him on conserving his magic, staying calm, and focused… It was nighttime, with the houses around appearing to huddle together as they watched the lone human facing the dark giant in the middle like a lonely gladiator, ready to confront the unknown enemy, never letting his guard down.
Suddenly, a burst of mysterious light appeared not far away. Jesse felt everything in that direction starting to blur. If Imp didn’t hear his command, then the one appearing must be…
