Chapter 079: The Magic of Murlocs
"I want to ask about the recipe for a potion," Jesse said. "Do you have any cheap and easy recipes for a Mana Potion?"
"This is a potion that is not easy to make," Ursula wiped the sweat off her forehead with her arm and stood up, asking, "Are you planning to use it yourself, or sell it to others?"
"For personal use," Jesse admitted.
Ursula nodded and stood there thinking for a while. Jesse found it hard to resist peeking at the slight bulge in her thin tank top.
She wasn’t particularly pretty, and she was at least ten years older than Jesse. If it were before he had time-traveled, Jesse might not have had any other thoughts.
But now he was a 17-year-old boy, no matter what he used to be. He had the body of a teenager, and even though his soul was older, it was hard to control his youthful impulses.
Sometimes, he even felt that his thoughts and desires were influenced by his body in return.
Not to mention Ursula Deline, surrounded by steam, her damp skin making her look like a teenage girl. With her slender, slightly muscular body, she stood there confidently with her hands on her waist, almost as if she was showing off.
After all, this was not a world where you could easily find all sorts of strange resources. However, Jesse tried his best not to think about these things, as he was here for help. If the other person noticed his gaze and mistook him for some kind of troublemaker, it would be bad.
Ursula thought for a moment and said, "To make Mana Potions, we need Mageroyal, Briarthorn, and Silverleaf. These ingredients, when mixed in different ratios, can create potions with different magical effects. If you help me gather the materials, I can make the potions for you for free, since you are part of our community. Or do you want to make them yourself?"
Jesse replied, "I’ll gather the materials and ask for your help with making the potions, as I’m not skilled in alchemy."
"Don’t be modest," Ursula chuckled. "When we first met, I sensed the smell of Shadow Protection Potion on you. Worried about being harmed here, huh? Besides me, no one in this city makes Shadow Protection Potions, so I assume you made it yourself."
Jesse awkwardly smiled and said, "I’m not experienced in making potions. The one I made was just a practice one, so I really need your help."
"I can teach you some alchemy techniques," Ursula offered. "I’m the only one here right now, and I’m quite busy. The warlocks need a lot of potions for their spells, whether it’s for experiments, countering negative effects of shadow spells, or antidotes."
"That’s great, I’d love to learn more about alchemy."
Watching Alchemist Jesse, who could easily recite potion recipes, Jesse suddenly had a question.
"By the way, Miss Ursula Deline, do you have a potion that can cure bat venom?" Jesse inquired.
"Bat venom?" Ursula scooped up some potion with a spoon, tasted it, adjusted the fire, then sat on a chair nearby and asked, "Which bat venom? The one from the Misty Bats in South Elwynn?"
Jesse said, "Do you know about the poison of the Amani Forest Troll’s riding bat in Hinterlands?"
"I do," Ursula replied. "The poison from that bat is similar to a kind of cobra in Stranglethorn. It can cause paralysis after being poisoned, which can greatly affect a person’s senses and movement."
Jesse nodded and said, "I have a friend who was poisoned like that, but the toxicity has passed. The aftermath has left him blind in one eye and with frequent uncontrollable hand tremors. Is there any medicine to treat these effects?"
"Well, that’s a whole different issue, Jesse," Ursula said. "There aren’t many solutions, and each one is quite difficult to obtain, because what you need is to restore the body’s normal functions. Regular poison treatments won’t address the problem."
"Let me tell you the best option," she continued. "Seek out the elves for advice. Quel’Thalas has battled the Amani Trolls for thousands of years. I believe their experience in fighting troll bat riders far surpasses ours, and elven alchemy is rooted in ancient elven kingdoms of legends, very different from humans."
"Elves," Jesse muttered. Was seeking out the elves the simplest of the few options available?
Now, forget about going to Quel’Thalas. Since the expedition troops set off, it has been extremely difficult to even encounter a genuine elf in Stormwind.
The few individuals who occasionally resembled elves were all abandoned by Quel’Thalas, forced to survive in human society as half-elves. Other than appearance, they were no different from ordinary humans.
However, Ursula’s words did give him some hope. Maybe the elves could truly heal Greed’s injuries.
"It seems we need to discuss this further. Let’s talk about Mana Potions."
Ursula nodded and said, "I have two common recipes here: one is for a basic Mana Potion usually used by beginner mages, and the other is for an advanced potion used by skilled mages. Which one would you like? As warlocks, we don’t use magic as frequently as the wizards in the Wizard’s Sanctum, so I suggest the basic potion. The ingredients for the advanced potion, like the Briarthorn, are hard to gather as they grow in the sea, making them difficult for ordinary people to collect and expensive."
Jesse replied, "Then let’s prepare the basic one for now."
Ursula took out a piece of paper and wrote down, "0.5 pounds of Mageroyal, 3 pounds of Silverleaf, 1 Briarthorn. This can make around 4 bottles of potion. Just gather enough ingredients and bring the bottles, and I can help you make them."
"Where can I find more Mageroyal? Are you planning to gather it yourself?"
"Of course, I can’t afford to buy them."
Ursula scratched her neck and said, "There’s an old abandoned mine called Jangolode Mine northwest of Sentinel Hill. If you head towards the coast from the mine, towards the west, you’ll climb a large hill facing the sea where a lot of Mageroyal grows. But the issue is, if I know it’s a good spot, then so does everyone else… Watch out for Gnolls. They have been very aggressive lately, and there are rumors of a Gnoll Tribe near Jangolode Mine who gather herbs to make potions too."
"Thank you for the warning."
Just as Jesse was about to leave, Ursula stopped him and said, "Oh, Jesse, if you’re heading to Westfall… I have some information about the Murlocs there."
Jesse asked, "What news?"
Ursula explained, "Westbrook’s patroller found Murlocs on the northern coast who have mastered dark magic. They can control shadows and attack passersby, including soldiers. I suspect these Murlocs may have learned the magic from an Orc Warlock, perhaps they have a book of spells, mastering the techniques of casting spells, or at least have heard incantations from an Orc."
"I wanted to go and see what these Murlocs are capable of, maybe it could enrich our spellbook. But you know I have many potions to brew and never had the opportunity to go. Can you investigate the situation? If they have new spells, maybe you can find a few willing companions to go see how they learned them."
"Sure, but a spellbook?" Jesse asked. "Do we still have one of those?"
"Of course," Ursula said. "Our group values sharing, everyone can look at that spellbook. However, most of the content in it is ineffective spells, many are just guesses, hearsay, or unclear things recorded by ear, kept by Zardeth. Don’t expect to find anything useful in it, Gakin sometimes gathers us to test if the spells in it work, including you at the beginning…"
After listening to Malin’s explanation on casting techniques, Jesse realized the harm of these inaccurate spells and casting techniques, reducing his attraction to the collected unclear things.
Ursula said, "Whatever you find, make sure to show me first when you come back. Westbrook Garrison doesn’t want the residents here to know that Murlocs have learned this kind of magic yet. After all, if Murlocs learn Orc’s magic, it’s quite frightening news. So I only heard about it under strict secrecy."
Jesse asked, "Are you so sure that Murlocs must have some kind of magic book or similar things? Do Murlocs also read the Orcish language?"
Ursula said, "You underestimate the intelligence of Murlocs, Jesse. Even if they didn’t obtain spellbooks from Orcs, they must have their own way of recording. Also, don’t go alone, at least have someone with you. Murlocs may be individually weak, but they are aware of their weaknesses and never act alone."
"I understand," Jesse thought, this kind of thing definitely shouldn’t involve Greed, without clear benefits. The goal is to find the warlock’s magic and deal with the Murlocwarlock, poking at his weaknesses.
But besides Greed, does he have any other friends who can help? Find another warlock?
In this basement, Jesse didn’t have anyone willing to be a partner, Gakin, Zardeth… He would never trust his safety with these people.
Right, isn’t Saenor a partner?
If he brings someone other than a warlock, it means Saenor can never show up.
But Saenor’s loyalty and abilities are much stronger than any help he can find in a few taverns in Stormwind.
Moreover, there will be no sharing, arguing, or conflicts…
