Chapter 075: Jesse’s Legendary Tale
"I defeated him using dark magic that Shaman despised. I used Fear, followed by Shadowfire and Corrosion Spell, which caused him to die in pain and fear, regretting his past mistakes." Jesse whispered to Greed.
"That sounds quite harsh, even for an Orc," Greed frowned. "It seems that dark magic is effective. Otherwise, why would so many people in this world give in to temptation and seek it?"
Jesse glanced at Greed discreetly, and Greed immediately caught his gaze. "Are you trying to deceive me? An Orc confessing his sins to you, does he speak a common language? You’re not telling the truth at all!" Greed exclaimed.
"You’re mistaken." Jesse replied. "He does speak a common language."
"What?" Greed exclaimed. "What did you say to him? Can Orcs communicate with humans? Aren’t they just crazy cannibals?"
"Eating human flesh doesn’t stop them from speaking human languages," Jesse explained. "Remember the course I mentioned before we came here?"
"I do."
"I took a course in the Orc language," Jesse revealed.
After Jesse recited a few basic Orcish runes, the dwarf shook his head in confusion, saying, "I can’t understand a thing!"
"Never mind if you can hear me or not, the point is it worked," Jesse said. "That Orc was actually a Shaman who got separated from his tribe. I told him where his tribe was, and he went straight there."
"He really believed you?" the dwarf asked suspiciously.
Jesse replied, "When I was in Lordaeron, I heard a lot about Orc tribes. Of course, I had to give him some reliable proof; otherwise, he might have just cracked my head open."
The dwarf nodded and said, "But considering Orcs’ intelligence, it’s normal for a cunning person like you to deceive them."
"Am I not the bravest human you’ve ever met?" Jesse asked. "How did I suddenly become a cunning trickster now?"
Greed replied, "Tricksters can also be brave; it’s not contradictory. By the way, tell me about your experience at Stonewatch Keep. I want to see how this Alliance hero faces the relentless Gnoll army without resorting to Black Magic cheating."
Jesse briefly recounted his experience at Stonewatch Keep, focusing especially on how the apprentice who disrespected him was suddenly dragged off the city walls by a Gnoll using a rope around his neck.
In terms of the battle, he omitted the details about the imp and dark powers, vividly portraying an image of a hero single-handedly holding off the enemy on top of the tower. After listening, Greed widened his eyes and said, "Believing you would be foolish."
Jesse chuckled and said, "The soldiers at Stonewatch Keep can attest to it. They even escorted me back to Lakeshire. You have no idea how many people I saved."
Greed glanced at Jesse skeptically, then slowly nodded and said, "I’ll believe you for now."
Jesse stretched out his arms, leaned back, and looked at the tree branches, blue sky, and white clouds above him. He said, "Ah, it’s so good to be alive. Don’t ask me to come out again in the future. I don’t want to die, Greed. I feel like my life is becoming more valuable now."
Greed sneered quietly and said, "When I can find a job worth one gold coin, you don’t need to come running over so eagerly."
"One gold coin?" Jesse chuckled and said, "Are you trying to get me to take on Blackrock Spire’s leader, Rend Blackhand, by myself?"
"Hold on!" Greed grabbed Jesse’s arm and said, "You claim you didn’t use dark magic, huh? Then why does this wound look like it was burned by Shadowfire?"
Jesse asked in confusion, "How do you know this is a burn from Shadowfire?"
"Kid," Greed said, "The soldiers injured by the flames created by Orcs’ shadow magic all have these kinds of burns. You can’t trick me, can you?"
"Trick you?" Jesse said, "Even if I wanted to, I can’t burn myself, can I?"
"Then how do you explain this?" Jesse said, "Gnolls. Gnolls also have shadow warlocks. They were involved in the night raid too."
"Alright then," Greed tossed Jesse’s hand aside, "consider yourself passed."
Jesse winced in pain, touched the bandage on his hand, and muttered, "Not fully healed yet."
Greed clicked his tongue, "Too bad, I was planning to continue practicing swordplay with you tonight, but since you’re not fully recovered, let’s forget about it."
Jesse said, "I can still practice. But… both of our swords are missing."
Greed stared and asked, "Didn’t you bring back the Stromgarde sword?"
"I could barely carry you, how could I bring back anything else?" Jesse retorted.
"What a loss," Greed sighed as he lay down next to Jesse, "I wish we hadn’t come to Redridge."
That evening, Jesse noticed that there were more soldiers in Lakeshire than before, they must have followed the king from Stormwind.
Thinking about meeting Varian Wrynn in person that morning felt surreal to him.
It doesn’t matter if he’s a king or some kind of noble, it’s because that’s the real Varian Wrynn.
This living hero from World of Warcraft, even though he’s not yet twenty, there is a difference in temperament and appearance compared to the later Varian, but… When playing the game, Jesse didn’t feel anything special about the character Varian Wrynn.
Because in the game, he actually plays more on the Horde side. Varian, as the leader of the Alliance, feels like he just makes appearances in various cutscenes and game plots, nothing much, just a bit familiar at most. Not to mention getting mad at the Horde from the early days.
But when they really talked in the game, he really felt a kind of indescribable familiarity, as if they had known each other for a long time, in any case, compared to other people he knows here, there is a feeling of a fantasy character intersecting with a real person.
Jesse and Greed were drinking at the tavern at night, hearing many people discussing the Gnoll attack on Stonewatch Keep. Many people said the second Gnoll War was about to happen soon.
Many people also felt that the Orc War that had just ended was trending to start again, and the kingdom would immediately have to deal with another group of enemies, which is really unfortunate.
Jesse also felt another reason for the king to come to Stonewatch Keep to reward the soldiers. If it happened in Stormwind, with the news of the Gnoll attack spreading, it would not just make Lakeshire panic, but the whole kingdom uneasy.
In the middle of the night, he checked his package and found that of the three bottles of Shadow Protection Potion he brought, only one was left. One was lost in the battle with the Orc Shaman, and another one was drank at Stonewatch Keep. The remaining bottle was brought back with difficulty from the lakeside, he thought it was lost.
Jesse has now joined The Slaughtered Lamb gang, learning a new way of Shadow Magic spells. In the Kingdom of Stormwind region, the biggest threat actually comes from a group of physical violent entities, whether it’s Gnolls, Murlocs, or beasts.
Even though there are some among them who can do magic, they are very rare. Most of them rely on biting and cutting.
Right now, according to Jesse’s understanding, what he needs the most are Healing Potion and Mana Potion, and a lot of them.
While searching for Shadow Protection Potion, he has seen many different recipes for Healing Potion and Mana Potion. Some are strong, some are weak, and the ingredients vary. He didn’t make a conscious effort to remember them, and if he wants to make them, he will have to look them up again.
But… the blood and blue in the game are just points, how will that be represented here?
He almost understands the effects of Mana Potion now. During this period, Jesse has felt the draining of his magic power, feeling tired and weak all over, unable to focus or even use Ley Line, manipulate shadows, or cast spells.
So, Mana Potion is likely to be a revitalizing potion that fills this feeling and makes one alert again. In terms of gameplay, this represents magic power.
Currently, Jesse’s "magic power" is very low, he can barely handle two or three Fears before running out. How can he ensure his and his companions’ safety?
If he brings a dozen bottles of Mana Potion every time he goes into battle in the future, he could definitely control that Orc Shaman until he drops. One fear, one stab. Forget about him, even when Orgrim comes, he’ll be sent away. Of course, it’s not that simple to think about. Either the Mana Potion’s effect is very poor, it’s very expensive, drinking a few bottles has no effect, or drinking too much makes the heart race and die suddenly like having too much coffee. It’s probably something like that.
Otherwise, wouldn’t it be enough to learn one magic control skill, bring a sword and a whole bag of blue bottles to dominate the seven kingdoms?
So, where is the Healing Potion?
Jesse poked the bandage on his hand with his finger, and felt a sharp hidden pain.
If I drink the Healing Potion, will this pain go away? It seems a bit unbelievable no matter how I think about it.
But he remembered the elf he saw in Duskwood, who had a bottle of pink liquid, Greed said that was the Resuscitation Potion.
In the game, the Resuscitation Potion is a high-level Healing Potion. The elf claimed that if you drink the Resuscitation Potion, even wounds caused by traps can be repaired in a short time. Is that true?
But the elf wouldn’t joke about his own life, would he? And looking at Greed’s expression, he didn’t seem to express any objections either.
"Greed, Greed, are you asleep?" Jesse whispered.
The sound behind him was deafening.
Perhaps he wouldn’t know the exact answer unless he drinks a bottle himself.
