Chapter 074: Reunion in Lakeshire
Jesse almost didn’t pay attention to the king’s speech next.
He was actually entering the Wizard’s Sanctum as an apprentice, not just a helper. Even though he couldn’t sense Ley Lines or use arcane magic yet, at least in name…
Mages prefer to train younger people with talents to not waste resources, but learning magic is not impossible for older folks.
Arcane magic is very useful like creating water, invisibility, and even teleportation… Of course, he didn’t expect to learn teleportation magic quickly.
Jesse could use shadow and combat skills for offensive magic, but specializing in one or two functional arcane spells could significantly improve his combat skills.
In the Wizard’s Sanctum, or even in Dalaran in the future, Jesse believed he could learn more about how the world’s energy worked. This might help reduce the negative impacts of Shadow Power on the body and mind, which was one of his main goals.
After the meeting, on the way back to the room, Jesse heard many people praising him. Everyone was excited and happy because they had won the battle, survived, and been inspected by the king.
But actually, Jesse felt a little embarrassed because the battle that night was too dark.
Is the bravery inspired by the power of those shadows considered true bravery?
Back at the window, Jesse looked at the bottom of his shoes. There were still some dark marks, burnt by the Shadowflame from the bodies.
Would the ones handling the bodies discover the Shadowflame on the bodies of the Gnolls?
How would Morganth feel seeing those Gnolls burnt to death by unknown flames?
"I killed those Gnolls with a sword lit by the Gnoll Warlock…" Jesse muttered quietly to himself, as if practicing a defense in advance.
"Jesse Seso."
Hearing the voice behind him, Jesse suddenly turned around.
However, it was Colonel Toderman. Yes, Morganth was already eager to return to Stormwind, so he shouldn’t be here.
"You did well today, kid. You’re the first person I’ve seen who dares to hit the king in the chest with their head, hahaha!" Toderman said, laughing.
Jesse’s mouth twitched slightly.
"No need to be so nervous." The Colonel patted Jesse’s shoulder and said, "It’s normal for young people to feel nervous in such situations. I think the king is even more nervous than you. When do you plan to go back? You can stay here as long as you want, the king may need to stay here for a day or two to check on our training progress."
"I have something to do at the Wizard’s Sanctum." Jesse tightened the package and said, "I have a friend in Lakeshire who got injured a few days ago, I need to go check on him."
The Colonel pointed downstairs and said, "There’s a patrol team about to leave, will you go with them to Lakeshire?"
"Great, that’s perfect." Jesse said, "I’ll go get the horse, please wait for me for a moment."
Jesse wished to leave this place quickly, away from the Gnoll corpses.
In the afternoon, Jesse followed the patrol team from Stonewatch Keep back to Lakeshire. Upon arriving in Lakeshire, Jesse hurried to the herbal clinic, but halfway there, he saw a familiar figure at the dock.
"How… you… Greed?"
Hearing Jesse’s voice, Greed turned around and asked, "Where did you go?"
Seeing him sitting there with his beard and tail, Jesse was almost unable to contain his excitement, before he looked like he was about to die.
"The pharmacist said you might be unconscious for a while longer."
"Who are you looking down on?" Greed laughed and said, "Just a little shock, I’ve been shocked before. I’m a Gryphon Rider, my own hammer is blessed with the electricity of the Sages, what does he take me for?"
"That’s great," Jesse said. "Now you can repay me for the medical expenses, 3 silver coins, I have no money for food."
"You haven’t even paid your sword training fee, my friend," Greed calmly said. "And besides, 3 silver coins are not enough, I chipped in some myself. Do you think I can’t handle money like a broke person like you? Even though we left Ironforge, we still uphold the finest qualities of dwarves without exception."
"You don’t even have a pouch, where would you keep the money?"
"Who puts all their money in a pouch? Won’t that just make it easy for thieves to steal and make us poor again?"
Jesse glanced at Greed’s shoes and asked, "Aren’t you worried about scuffing them?"
"Who said it was inside the shoe? It’s a secret," he looked sideways at Jesse and said. "By the way, I heard the pharmacist say you were going back to Stormwind. I thought you had already gone."
"I was delayed for two days at Stonewatch Keep."
Jesse sat beside him, and Greed noticed the bandages on his hands. "What happened? Did the mages at Stonewatch Keep hit your palm like that?"
"Why do you have such a vivid imagination?" Jesse shook his head and said, "The Gnolls raided the castle at night, and I happened to run into them. Do you think I’m unlucky or lucky?"
"Did you use the sword techniques I taught you?" Greed said. "I bet you didn’t use them at all. Without me by your side, you must have heavily relied on dark magic and caused chaos over there!"
Jesse asked, "Will I come back alive? Won’t the soldiers there mistake me for an Orc and chop off my head?"
Greed stared into his eyes, licked his teeth, and said, "Maybe."
Jesse hugged the warlock’s pouch to his chest and said, "Anyway, I survived. The commander at Stonewatch Keep thinks I defended the castle and even told the king about it!"
"What?!" the dwarf shouted, "Did the king passing through Lakeshire to Stonewatch Keep two days ago have to do with the Gnoll attack? What kind of attack was it to even alert the king of that small country?"
"What do you think?" Jesse chuckled proudly and said, "He promised to help me enter the Wizard’s Sanctum and become a true mage."
Greed exclaimed, "You, a true mage? You’ve really lost your way!"
"Keep it down!" Jesse emphasized.
"Fine, fine," Greed sighed and said, "Gee, why can’t I have such good luck, to have the human king reward me with a few gold coins!"
"You dare mention it?" Jesse asked, "Who lied to me that we wouldn’t encounter high difficulty tasks, who told me going with you to find the Orcmage would result in sharing silver coins? Who got shocked and couldn’t get up, leaving me to carry you all the way back to Lakeshire from east of the logging camp? Why do you think you didn’t have such good luck?"
Greed, knowing he was in the wrong, sheepishly smiled and said, "I’m really sorry, that Orc was indeed a bit too powerful."
After speaking, his face changed as if he remembered something, asking, "By the way, how did you defeat him?"
