Chapter 067: Assault
What’s happening?
He wanted to look under the city wall, but it would definitely be too dangerous to do so.
If an apprentice can be taken away without a sound, how can his assistant escape danger?
Who attacked him, Orc?
The chances are very low. Currently, the Blackrock Orcs are in a big fight with the Dark Iron Dwarves in the north of Redridge. If they come in groups through Burning Steppes into the canyon in Redridge, the militia patrols in Lakeshire will definitely spot them first.
Logically speaking, now… apart from Orcs wandering around like that Shaman, there wouldn’t be any legion daring to attack a castle in the entire Redridge area.
This means that there is only one possibility left, the Gnolls, after all, it couldn’t possibly be the Murlocs, right?
The local Gnolls are of the Darkhide tribe, the darkest and most violent tribe within the entire Stormwind Kingdom. If it’s them… should they immediately enter the fortress to hide, or defend this tower?
In addition to this tower, there are a total of four towers of various sizes in the entire castle. Right now, the torches held by the guards on the other towers are lit, only the central tower at the top of the fortress is currently unguarded.
After a few seconds passed and he hadn’t decided on his strategy yet, Jesse heard a strange laugh from behind. He turned around and saw a bunch of dark brown fur popping up on the city wall, with a dog head coming out, its swollen and dark yellow eyes staring right at him.
When the Gnoll noticed Jesse’s presence, it yelled, "Ha… there’s fresh meat!"
No choice, he had to defend this tower!
Jesse grabbed a long stick and ran over to hit the Gnoll on the head. With a groan, the Gnoll let go and fell off the city wall.
Just as he was catching his breath, a iron hook suddenly flew up with a loud whoosh, almost hooking his neck. Jesse took a few steps back, the iron hook scraped his ribs, leaving a blood mark. The hook firmly hooked onto the city wall, and the rope started swinging vigorously.
These Gnolls can actually climb walls using iron hooks?!
The hooks were very large and had spikes on them, the ropes were not made of hemp but iron chains!
These must be Orc siege equipment, left behind after their tribe’s failure, picked up or snatched by Gnolls to use in attacking the human city walls!
Jesse grabbed a rusty long sword from the nearby weapon rack, attempting to pry loose the iron hook, but he didn’t expect it to be so tightly hooked, especially with the Gnolls below already climbing, making the hook even more securely attached.
After struggling for a while, a sudden iron knife emerged from below and hit his sword unexpectedly. His hands felt numb from the impact. Just as he was about to continue prying, the Gnoll with the knife leaped up along the chain and delivered a sideways slash!
Jesse awkwardly dodged by bowing his head, took a few steps back. The Gnoll in front of him was shorter than him, but had darker fur than those in Elwynn Forest. Covered in scars, its arms and legs looked skinny, making it appear more sinister and cunning.
Clearly not taking Jesse seriously, the Gnoll rushed towards him excitedly. Jesse dodged a direct heavy blow sideways and stabbed his sword into the thick mane around the Gnoll’s neck.
The Gnoll let out an excited roar, then whimpered as it fell trembling to the ground. After a few body rolls, it couldn’t get back up.
Jesse realized this was an ambush by the Gnoll, but the main force in the castle had already rushed out of the gate to hunt down the so-called Darkweaver Gnoll. Was this a distraction?
Grabbing a torch, he waved it towards the direction of the watchtower on the other side, shouting, "Gnoll attack! Gnoll attack!"
After shouting for a while, he noticed the shadows on top of the other tower, illuminated by the torch, were all bent over Gnoll figures… The guards there had been taken out!
Inside Stonewatch Keep, it had become increasingly chaotic, with clanging noises, cries, roars, Gnoll screams. It was too late to warn the people inside Stonewatch Keep now, it was pointless.
The forest riders must be alerted immediately to return for defense.
Stonewatch Keep was in chaos, even if it was quiet, shouting towards the forest wouldn’t help. Wasn’t there a horn or bell to sound the alarm?
He remembered that there were messengers with horns when he entered the castle, but where were they now?
There was no horn or bonfire on the small tower on top of the fortress castle to create a clear signal. There was only a torch. How could he launch the torch into the sky?
Just as he was panicking, a Gnoll jumped onto the wall, waving an axe in a silly manner and laughing strangely.
No… staying here would only get him killed by more Gnolls.
Jesse couldn’t handle even four hands with both fists, and now only Gnoll grunts were coming up. If a stronger warrior came up, he might be in trouble alone.
He needed to go back to his room to find the warlock bag and release the imp.
Wait… an imp?!
Yes, the imp could shoot fireballs and create a signal flare in the sky!
The Gnoll swung the heavy Orc axe with all his might, but he wasn’t very strong.
Jesse easily dodged the attack, causing the Gnoll to hit the stone wall with the axe. Before the Gnoll could recover, Jesse swiftly stabbed him from behind, causing the Gnoll to let out a hoarse cry and fall off the wall with a loud thud.
The spot where the apprentice, Martin, was standing was now crowded with several Gnolls.
The Gnolls were frantically pounding on the wooden door with nails. The annoying banging noises earlier were coming from them. However, due to the noise, the Gnolls didn’t notice Jesse fighting their companions on the tower above them.
The Gnolls didn’t even notice how badly the fallen Gnoll was hurt.
"Saenor!"
He called out in a confused manner, knowing that the imp wouldn’t hear him. If he made too much noise, he would attract all the Gnolls below, and he wouldn’t stand a chance.
It was better to deal with them one by one as they climbed up, giving him a little more time to live.
As he was thinking about this, he heard the sound of a Gnoll scratching the stone wall from behind.
The Gnoll jumped up with two short axes in hand, howling as it twirled around like a circus performer.
Jesse’s mind was filled with the techniques taught by Greed to "maintain distance, point the sword forward."
