Chapter 051: The Valuable Spell
Zardeth had a very charming voice and spoke in a kind and gentle manner, as if he had grown up in a noble family.
However, Jesse always felt a sinister aura surrounding him as she looked at him.
Jesse didn’t think she had any special ability to see through others’ magic powers. She considered herself an ordinary person, yet even she could sense that something was not quite right about him, let alone the mages and priests.
How did this person manage to stay in Stormwind unnoticed, and where did this ominous presence around him come from?
Jesse followed him into the practice room where Gakin was already waiting for them.
"Zardeth, let him see."
Zardeth nodded and said, "You can show yourself now, Ziggy."
Who was he talking to?
Just as Jesse was feeling puzzled, a flash of Arcane magic suddenly shimmered at Zardeth’s feet, and a little figure appeared out of it.
"At your command, master…"
An imp!
A real demon!
Jesse looked at the imp crouching on the ground. It had a pair of long horns in front, swollen eyes emitting a strange yellow light, about the size of a medium-sized dog. Its fur flickered like grey flames as it moved.
Gakin proudly said, "Summoning magic used to be extremely difficult for Black Magic practitioners in Azeroth, but with the opening of the Dark Portal, everything changed. The Dark Portal brought us closer to the void and to summoning creatures."
"It has also made it easier for me to pledge allegiance to my master!" the imp named Zeegi excitedly added.
When he saw the demon, Jesse realized he had misunderstood this group of warlocks. It seemed that some of them did have some real skills.
"Quiet, Zeegi," Zardeth said, then looked at Jesse.
"This type of imp can help us a lot, they can hide their body and turn invisible. But remember, staying invisible takes a lot of focus, and imps are not good at… focusing. So once invisible, they can’t do anything other than follow you, as they lose focus easily and become visible again. So, if you don’t want trouble, it’s best not to let them do illegal things without permission. Some people in Stormwind know more about demons than us, and they won’t allow these demons to cause trouble in the city."
Jesse thought for a moment and asked, "Are you going to teach me the spell to Summon Imp?"
Gakin replied, "This is the valuable spell I mentioned earlier, Jesse. Are you not scared? Surena and Erlan refused to learn Summon Imp, they don’t want to deal with demons, and Ursula… she doesn’t seem to have the talent to summon demons."
Zardeth said, "According to the hermits in Ironforge, in this age when the Dark Portal is already open, if one can’t even learn Summon Imp, they don’t deserve to be called a warlock. But those Ironforge folks are too arrogant, we shouldn’t bother with them. Ursula is a helpful partner, even if she can’t Summon Imp, she is valuable to us. So don’t stress, even if you can’t learn it quickly, you can help the group in other ways."
Summoning a demon was a daunting thought for Jesse, but it was truly a valuable spell, just as Gakin had said.
"I’m here to learn new things."
"Very well." Gakin walked to a wall with the two of them and said, "Let me demonstrate—"
"Renéa, Tatheni, Anvi, Solemi, Eolgasobims."
As Gakin chanted, dark shadows began to appear around him. These shadows were faint, barely visible even in the dim room, but they seemed to grow clearer and sharper with each moment, forming intricate symbols on the ground with his recitation.
Soon, a crack appeared among these symbols, a black crack even darker than the shadows in a dark room, and then a little monster jumped out from inside.
"Who brought me to this place?"
This imp was different from Zardeth’s, as Zardeth’s imp was all grey, while this imp was dark yellow all over.
Jesse said, "They don’t seem like demons."
Zardeth explained, "It’s possible, imps come in many varieties and they might not even know each other, but we’re still not sure about this."
"You can give it a try," Gakin asked, "or do you want me to repeat it again?"
"No need," Jesse was confident in his short-term memory.
Mimicking Gakin’s gestures, he chanted, "Lenore, Tenei, Anvisolemie, Orlgasobims."
Zardeth whispered, "Perfect. You are a natural spellcaster, Jesse Seso, there is no doubt about it."
In the chanting of the spell, shadow runes appeared and an imp leaped out from the crack.
Jesse felt dizzy, as if something had drained a part of him, leaving him feeling empty and weak suddenly.
He struggled to stand steady and saw the imp he had summoned, all dark blue, chattering nonstop but unclear in its speech.
"I don’t understand what he’s saying, is that normal?"
Gakin said, "This weak creature doesn’t know our language, you don’t need to communicate with it. Now, I will teach you how to banish this demon. Remember, this spell can only end your summoning of the demon, not kill other demons."
Jesse nodded, understanding that this was a kind of agreement to eliminate the evil magic of the other party, he could almost guess.
Gakin chanted, "Bims Norsie, Cuthinney, Elramahikin."
As Gakin finished his spell, the sandy-skinned imp he had summoned previously screamed in pain as if its throat was being choked, shouting "Why, why" in a strange language, then vanished in a burst of Shadow Flame, brightening the room momentarily before darkening again.
Zardeth frowned, clearly not liking what he saw.
Jesse called upon the imp, who also became terrified. When Jesse started reciting the same spell, the imp began to scream wildly, but it didn’t run away or try to attack anyone in the room.
With the spell complete, the blue imp turned into a ball of fire and disappeared before everyone’s eyes, leaving a burnt smell lingering in the room, like the smell of sulfur.
"Don’t be like Blackclaw," Gakin said disapprovingly, casting a glance at Zardeth. "Wanting to be friends with an imp is just unreasonable."
Zardeth smiled and said, "Don’t attempt to control others’ thoughts, Gakin. Mutual respect is essential for working together."
