Chapter 485: Ownership of the Spoils
After the Orcs retreated, only a charred Demon Guard body remained.
The demon, once strong like a black statue, was now burnt into a purple-glowing charred mass with no valuable armor or clothing left to salvage.
"These Orcs really don’t know how to appreciate," Aubergine said regretfully, looking at the burning demon body.
The Orc warlock was truly powerful, summoning such a strong Demon Guard with just a few coughs. It seemed like he had the strength to summon another one.
If he had not cared for the lives of his fellow tribe members and had fought recklessly, he could have easily taken down this small team.
"At least we still have a sword," Dunn pointed to Molofeel’s sword and said.
That sword is Cataclysm’s Edge.
Molofeel is shorter than Jesse, but this red giant sword is taller than Jesse. The Demon Guard can easily swing this sword with one hand, while the succubus struggles to hold onto it with both hands gripping the hilt on the ground, finding it difficult to grasp.
However, with this sword as a reference, Jesse felt like Molofeel had grown a bit taller, estimating around five feet now, but he didn’t have a ruler to measure.
After all, he had grown a bit taller than before, making it hard to notice the succubus’ changes in comparison.
"This sword belongs to me now," Molofeel proudly said, "as a trophy of victory in the Mak’gora."
"Excuse me, miss demon," Dunn said, "do you really think this sword suits your size? Why not sell it and share the money with your master, it looks like you’re struggling to wield it."
The succubus lifted the sword with both hands and swung it around in a large circle, then slammed it on the ground with a loud thud, asking, "Where’s the struggle, hunter? Don’t forget how this demon met its end…"
"This is indeed a part of our spoils of war," Aubergine asked the others, "how did we divide the money in similar situations before?"
Surena said, "We’ve never encountered trouble like this before, Aubergine."
Hubert nodded and said, "We met some imps in the area to the west last time. And we encountered a group of Gnolls to the northeast before."
"The loot wasn’t worth much money at all, so we didn’t take anything. Our bags were filled with demonic items." Wallis whispered, "We ended up throwing away all the random jewelry we collected from the Gnolls because I carried it all the way…I’m such a fool…"
"So this sword is truly special," Aubergine said, "If we can find a way to bring it to Ironforge, or Stromgarde, someone will surely pay a high price for it. What do you think, Erlan? You’re in charge of selling for us."
"I’m not sure, maybe around thirty gold coins," Erlan said.
Gacresse seemed about to speak out, but was silenced by a glare from Surena.
Dunn gasped and said, "Wow, that’s a really good price."
"How much did you sell the Demon Guard’s sword for, Mr. Drudgemoor?" Hubert asked.
"Oh yes, that black sword with the skull on it is also very beautiful," Aubergine said.
Erlan said, "That sword, slightly shorter than this one, sold for fourteen gold coins in Booty Bay. But in my opinion, I also agree that this sword should belong to Miss Molofeel."
The hunter glanced at him and said, "Were you charmed by that succubus?"
"I have no interest in that," Molofeel replied.
The hunter sighed softly, and Surena said, "I also agree with Erlan’s opinion. If it weren’t for her and Jurke, I thought we would have to fight fiercely against that group of Orcs. Do you want to face off against an Orc Warlock who can easily summon a Demon Guard like the one we just encountered?"
"Of course, you agree with Drudgemoor’s opinion," Dunn pointed at several members of the Dagger Association and said, "And you are all from Stormwind… what a mess. I don’t want to argue with you, but if we sell it for thirty gold coins, each of us can get an extra four gold coins. Of course, I would be willing to give Jurke a little more, I would take two gold coins and let him have ten gold coins or something."
"Regardless, that succubus fought alone," Hubert said, "the rest of us couldn’t help at all."
"If you had proposed to face that Demon Guard one-on-one just now, I would have supported the sword going to you, Mr. Dunn Felryn," Erlan added.
"Ah… darn it," Dunn said helplessly, "you actually make some darn good sense."
"Alright, I’ll share my commission with everyone," Jesse asked, "how about using it to buy this sword?"
"That’s easier, I agree," Dunn straightened up and said.
"It’s not necessary at all, Mr. Jurke," Hubert said, "This is rightfully yours and your demon servant’s. I haven’t contributed anything to this loot, so I don’t intend to share the money."
"Then your share belongs to me," Dunn said.
"Suit yourself," Hubert said.
"I can do without it," Aubergine said, "I’m just happy to have come out of this encounter with the Blood Ring Orcs unharmed. As for the sword, I’ll go along with whatever decision you all come up with."
"I’d like a share," Wallis said, "It would be best if we could divide some."
"I won’t take a share," Erlan said, "I agree with our tall priest’s opinion."
"I don’t want it either," Surena said, "I’m grateful to Ms. Molofeel as it is."
Aubergine said, "So, Mr. Jurke, how about taking four gold coins from your final commission, giving two gold coins each to the hunter and our Wallis, and taking the sword with you?"
"No problem," said Jesse.
"What about the priest’s share? Wasn’t it supposed to be given to me?" Dunn asked.
"Why don’t you calm down a bit, Dunn," Hubert said helplessly.
The hunter sighed deeply and said, "I thought you were serious."
With everyone seemingly in agreement, Jesse said, "Thank you all."
He looked at Molofeel holding Cataclysm’s Edge, knowing that this demon weapon couldn’t be obtained with just a few coins.
Paying such a small price was definitely taking advantage of their lack of understanding of demon weapons used by these people.
If in the future these mercenaries had the chance to enter Draenor, or the shattered Outland… they would realize that demon weapons come in different grades.
After packing up their things to continue their journey, Dunn was still squatting near the body of the Demon Guard, trying to find something useful.
Erlan signaled to Jesse when no one was looking. Jesse understood that Erlan intentionally quoted a lower price.
Molofeel looked satisfied as she dragged her red giant sword to Jesse. The combination was not exactly coordinated, but it had a strange sense of matching.
After all, the evil crimson color matched well with her skin tone. The length of the large sword compared to her height seemed oddly mismatched.
"Thank you, master, for generously helping me secure such a beautiful prize," Molofeel said. "I promise to serve you even more diligently in the future…"
Jesse raised an eyebrow and said, "It sounds like you’re taking all the credit."
The succubus smiled and Jesse continued, "Anyway, you’re quite strong, Molofeel. If I were to face you for real, I can’t guarantee the outcome."
"I know I’m strong, master," Molofeel said with a light laugh as she held the sword. "I was quite confident before the battle, but I didn’t expect you to care so much about my well-being…"
"Of course, I want you to win, or else we’ll have to deal with those Orcs and the Demon Guard," Jesse replied.
"But from what I sense, you’re not worried about facing the Orcs, but about me," Molofeel squinted and said, "I’m good at guessing my master’s thoughts. However, I can only achieve victory thanks to your concern and the energy you’ve given me… Without them, how could I become so strong?"
Molofeel whispered here, and someone next to her could hear, Wallis smiled, of course she knew what it meant to a succubus to replenish energy.
"It’s also because you secretly gave Curse of Recklessness, right," Jesse said softly.
"Ah, you figured it out," Molofeel said, lifting the corners of her mouth slightly, "that Demon Guard… probably didn’t even realize it himself."
