Chapter 482: Magic Eye
Dunn looked at Molofeel and asked, "Are you sure you’re not just smelling the demons’ stench around here?"
"Those two smells are very different, Dunn," Jesse said. "Even I can tell the difference between the scent of a dead demon and a live one. What did you smell, Molofeel?"
Molofeel said, "I’m not sure what kind of demon it is, master. The power doesn’t seem strong, so I can’t distinguish it clearly."
Dunn climbed up a nearby tree to get a better look, while Jesse used his Detect Demon ability to peer in that direction. His detection range wasn’t very far, so if Molofeel couldn’t sense it clearly, it would be almost impossible for him to see.
"Is it not powerful enough, or is it too far away?" he asked.
"Should say, very weak…" Molofeel said, "Never felt such a thin demon aura before, it’s like…"
Standing at a high place, Dunn suddenly pointed to the north, whispering, "Look… over there…"
Jesse climbed up a tree and looked in the direction Dunn was pointing, the dark night made it hard to see clearly, but with Dunn’s guidance, after a while, he also saw the faint light shimmering in the forest.
It was a slowly moving green light, roughly estimated to be a few hundred meters away, but he couldn’t be sure… after all, the specific size of the thing was unknown.
"It’s a magic eye!" Saenor grabbed Jesse’s collar, saying, "Hurry down, my lord, don’t let it see you, it can see much farther than you all!"
"A magic eye?"
Upon hearing imp’s warning, Dunn immediately slid down the tree, and Jesse followed, hiding behind a low hill.
Is it the Eye of Kilrogg?
Beside Erlan, imp Gelkik looked at Saenor and said, "The demon eye summoned by fel magic, a lookout’s common trick! I know! I know!"
"Shut up, why are you proud of such things?" said Saenor disgustedly.
"Is there a Lookout here?" Molofeel asked, "In the forest occupied by humans? Would the Burning Legion send Lookouts to patrol here?"
"Lookouts only appear near Burning Legion’s fortress…" incubus Gacresse said.
Erlan said, "I have seen Orcs summoning such eyes, when they occupied Moonbrook, some warlocks used these eyes to patrol the area."
"Did it see us?" Surena asked.
"Even if it didn’t, it will soon," Jesse said, "Tell the people below to leave."
Erlan nodded and ran to the edge of the pit, shouting, "Aubergine, we have spotted demon tracks, drop what you’re doing and leave!"
Just as he finished speaking, a howl echoed from the depths of the forest to the northeast. This deep howl was not from ordinary forest wolves, but from Orc’s Worg!
"Damn, it is indeed Orcs, that eye must have noticed us," Dunn pointed south, "Let’s go that way!"
The group quickly packed their things and ran away, each one also took out their weapons and prepared for a fight. Surena, who was previously panicking at the thought of battle, now seemed calmer, perhaps because of the protection from Gacresse boosting her courage.
They retreated deep into the forest. Wallis ran and asked, "Why are there Orc-summoned magic eyes patrolling here? Could there be an Orc settlement nearby?"
"When the Dark Portal closed, a group of Orcs got left behind in The Black Morass," Jesse explained. "They call themselves the Bleeding Hollow clan, led by Kilrogg Deatheye. The Orcs refer to this type of magic eye spell as the Eye of Kilrogg."
"Strange ghostly thing," Dunn muttered, glancing back and suddenly turning pale.
"Wolf Rider… it’s a Wolf Rider!"
Jesse turned around and saw a fierce black Worg chasing them from behind, with an Orc riding on its back, brandishing a menacingly swinging axe.
When the Orc noticed the people ahead seeing him, he angrily roared. As he and his Worg ran into an open area not shielded by tree shadows, the dark blood-colored tattoos on his green skin under the moonlight became visible! Indeed, they were Bleeding Hollow Orcs!
Though the Worg wasn’t as fast as a horse, it was much quicker than running. Aubergine shouted, "Dunn, take down this foolish creature!"
Without Aubergine needing to shout, Dunn had already aimed his crossbow and stood still. The Worg charged towards him, and with a swift pull of the trigger, the arrow shot out and hit the Worg right in the cheek!
Worg fell to the ground, rolling with the Orc on his back. Surprisingly, the Orc held on tight to Worg’s neck hair and managed to stay on when Worg stood up again.
Dunn was taken aback by the Wolf Rider’s toughness, his actions becoming more hurried. Father Hubert stood by his side, Surena was about to cast a Curse of Weakness spell, but a Shadow Bolt shot past everyone and hit the Wolf Rider in the face!
The Shadow Bolt hit the Wolf Rider, causing eerie shadows and piercing magical sounds to spread around him. Worg howled and fell to the ground, the Orc Knight followed suit, clutching his face in pain and eventually collapsing in silence.
Everyone turned to Jesse, who took a deep breath. This was his first time using Shadow Bolt in a real battle, and the magic was indeed as terrifying as he had expected when first learning the spell.
The Orc lay motionless, his upper body corroded by the shadows, resembling a decaying corpse.
The Worg beneath him struggled in pain, trying to stand up but falling repeatedly. Its black fur shed continuously, revealing reddened skin underneath, its mouth spitting out purple-tinged blood.
At that moment, two other Wolf Riders appeared in the forest. Instead of charging forward, they cautiously observed the scene, seemingly surprised by the unexpected dark magic.
Apart from the two Wolf Riders, several Orcs armed with long knives or axes were slowly surrounding them, led by one Orc dressed in a pale yellow robe, riding a Worg and holding a magic wand adorned with a skull, likely that of a Draenei.
Is that Kilrogg Deatheye?
No, the leader of the Bloodmaul orcs should have returned behind the Dark Portal early, and Kilrogg Deatheye has one blind eye, while this orc has both eyes intact.
He should be a small leader from the group of Bloodmaul left behind at the Dark Portal. Jesse couldn’t identify his identity.
Right now, Aubergine cast a spell to release an ice barrier around herself, Dunn readied his crossbow again, two succubi had disappeared, and Jesse also cast a protective evil version of Mage Armor on himself.
Hubert softly recited a prayer, and a bright light suddenly surrounded him, forming a faint glow. Jesse couldn’t help but look at him for a moment.
Is this Power Word: Shield?
