Chapter 473: New House
Early the next morning, Jesse packed up and carried Miserheld’s gear box to the port to take a boat back to Stormwind.
Despite booking the fastest ship, they encountered a small storm halfway, so it took them nearly nine days to reach King’s Bay.
When he got home, Jesse put down his things, did not rest for a moment, and hurriedly carried the valuable items from his house to The Slaughtered Lamb. Inside, he put the items on the counter and, looking at the slightly puzzled Jarel Moor, said, "Have you found me a place to stay, Jarel? My rent is due in a few days…"
"Of course," Jarel said with relief, "I thought it was something serious. I’ve found you a place to stay, Jesse. It’s close to the Mage Quarter, just south of the Garden District. It’s a bit expensive, though — 13 silver coins a month. It’s in a lane that leads to the Mage Quarter, only about half an hour’s walk after crossing a repaired canal bridge."
"13 silver coins," Jesse muttered, "I’m not a noble studying in Stormwind."
Jarel chuckled and said, "Even nobles don’t have to rent houses, Jesse. This is just a temporary solution since you needed it urgently. If you feel the rent is too high, I can help you find a cheaper place gradually. The rent for your previous small building has already increased to 7 silver coins for the new tenants. Your landlord just hasn’t had the chance to raise it for the old tenants yet, but it won’t last long. There will definitely be changes after this year’s Feast of Winter Veil."
"Alright, thank you, Jarel Moor," Jesse said, "Can I move in right away?"
"I have already paid the deposit and the rent for the first month for you, totaling 40 silver coins," Jarel said, "It was a rare opportunity, so I took the liberty."
Jesse counted out 40 silver coins on the table, while Jarel wrote down the address on a piece of old paper and handed it to Jesse, saying, "I wish you a happy life in your new home."
"Have Erlan and Surena come back?" Jesse asked.
"Yes, they have," Jarel said, "They have already been to Moonbrook, sold some materials that Jalane and Ursula didn’t need, and made a good profit."
Looking at the drinkers in the distance, he lowered his voice and said, "Erlan at least made 7 gold coins. As for Surena… I’m not sure, she always has unique ways to earn money."
Jesse remarked, "7 gold coins… really tempting. They seemed to have been gone for over a month, right?"
"Less than two months." Jarel said, "And I heard that not many powerful demons have been encountered. The demons that can still survive in The Black Morass are mostly just unnoticed imps now. The alliance armies from Nethergarde and Stonard are putting a lot of effort into clearing out the remaining demons."
"According to Erlan, rather than worrying about demons, we should worry about Gnolls and Orcs… He mentioned that a scavenger team ran into an Orc group, and there are still Orc tribes hiding in the forests of The Black Morass. Also, there are small deformed creatures coming through the Dark Portal to this side, have you heard of them? They call themselves Draenei."
Jesse knew that what Jarel mentioned were not real Draenei, but the curious lost ones they encountered in the forest on their way to Nethergarde with the Stromgarde cavalry.
Many degenerated lost ones… still believe they are Draenei, refusing to acknowledge that they have become monsters even unrecognizable to their fellow Draenei. Some of them, after learning a bit of common language, began spreading the word that they are Draenei everywhere. So, when they later saw the tall, blue-skinned beings from another world, almost indistinguishable from the Eredar, calling themselves Draenei, many in the alliance were quite surprised.
"I heard about it in Nethergarde." Jesse said, "Is anyone in the basement now?"
"No one, except Basadre. Ursula just went out not long ago, she might come back only in the evening." Jarel said, "Erlan and Surena will come here tonight, you can talk to them then."
"Thank you, Jarel." Jesse said, "Also, one more thing, could you do me a favor and tell my current landlord that I might have perished at the Dark Portal, so I can’t renew the lease for my rental now?"
"Of course, no problem." Jarel said.
"Remember to get the deposit back." Jesse reminded.
After speaking, Jesse followed the address provided by Jarel and walked north along the street towards Mage Quarter with his luggage.
Passing by the apartment building where he used to live as an apprentice, Jesse wondered if the name on top had changed now. He thought about the elegant little room he had never lived in, feeling a bit regretful.
Exiting from the north side of Mage Quarter, Jesse crossed the canal and walked a few minutes to reach the gate leading to the Garden District.
Before the Horde captured Stormwind, the Garden District was not part of the city area. It was just where some nobles lived, making it look like a forest with a few estates.
After the reconstruction of Stormwind, the Garden District was included as a new city district within the city walls. Some wealthy merchants and nobles actively bought properties here, with the funds received by the royal family becoming part of the reconstruction of Stormwind.
Of course, no matter how rich Jesse was, he would never consider settling here.
After all, he knew that when Deathwing reappeared in the world, this area would be facing the wrath brought by the black dragon king from the sea…
The flames brought by Deathwing easily destroyed more than half of the Garden District, turning it into a crater.
Apart from here and the city gate, most of Stormwind remained intact, barely surviving the Cataclysm at level 85.
He wasn’t sure if the same thing would happen here, but he didn’t want to take that risk. He had no interest in challenging Deathwing. Not only did he not want to buy a house in the Garden District, but he wanted to buy further away, like in Old Town or the east side of the Trade District.
Passing by the entrance of the Garden District, Jesse glanced inside and saw lush greenery and charming small buildings, even more beautiful than the Mage Quarter.
It’s no wonder that later on, when the Night Elves joined the Alliance and settled in Stormwind, they even built a Moonwell there.
By then, the house prices in the Garden District would surely skyrocket. But Jesse didn’t care; if a dragon’s flames came down, there wouldn’t be anything left anyway.
Following the address written by Jarel, Jesse arrived at a small alley outside the Garden District and found the building where his room was located on the second floor.
It was still a single room, slightly more spacious than before, and the single bed felt a bit bigger.
However, looking out of the window here, Jesse couldn’t see the canal anymore. He could only lean out and look down the alley, where he could catch a glimpse of the water from the canal.
And at the end of his sight, there was the tall tower of Stormwind Prison, almost like a constant reminder to Jesse not to do anything bad.
Looking at it this way, this new rented place resembled the hospital room Jesse had stayed in at Nethergarde, both in terms of room size and layout.
Now he is starting to believe more and more that Nethergarde was also built by the Stonemason Brotherhood.
