Chapter 471: The Creature on the Other Side
Pucodyaz took off his cloak and quickly darted into another cabin.
Jesse watched him leave, thinking about what he had just said.
So, Dethmoora Darkeye might be in Kalimdor, another continent?
Is he really going to Kalimdor just to find this elusive person?
However, upon reaching this point, Jesse realized that this Dethmoora might be a powerful demonologist. If he finds her, he might not need to learn about demons from Mor’zul after all, he could just learn from her directly.
But whether she is a foe or a friend, and how strong she is… still remains uncertain.
Anyway, since I’ve come all the way to Booty Bay, I might as well find out about this matter first, as for whether to go to Kalimdor… we’ll see later.
Judging from the bustling trade of the Steamwheedle Cartel, the trip shouldn’t be as difficult as imagined.
When Pucodyaz came out, he was holding a box. After opening it, the contents inside surprised Jesse a bit.
He had thought that a Demonologist like Dethmoora Darkeye would use a dagger that was rough and twisted, like a scary animal tooth, or a dead dry twig, or spikes made from the bones of demons or evil beasts… But upon seeing the dagger in front of him, he realized that it was quite exquisite, at least more delicate than most daggers made by humans.
The slender handle of a faint light green color had some indistinct patterns that were reminiscent of a leaf.
This reminded Jesse of the Sunstrider blade that Vereesa had given him before. Of course, compared to the Sunstrider blade, this knife was much more ordinary.
"Is this the dagger that Dethmoora used?"
"Yes," said Pucodyaz. "At least that’s what the trolls say."
"Was this dagger obtained from the trolls?" Jesse asked.
Pucodyaz said, "You must be surprised too, even among the Sandtroll witch doctors, there exists a legend of Darkeye, this warlock might live much longer than we think."
After talking, Goblin Collector closed the box and handed it to Jesse. Jesse nodded and said, "Thank you, Mr. Pucodyaz, I will make good use of this. As soon as I have results, I will come back to find you."
"Compared to my other collections, this thing is not much, human," the goblin said. "But its significance lies in its connection to Dethmoora Darkeye. However, as the search for clues leads to dead ends, I have started to not value it as much. Undoubtedly, you have given it a chance for a new life now."
Following Miserheld back to the beach from the Goblin Collector’s ship, Miserheld said, "I don’t care what deal you’ve made, Mr. Slovakia, but remember our agreement about Karazhan."
"I can’t guarantee getting you the Essence of Undeath," Jesse said. "If I feel the task is too dangerous for me to handle, I will return immediately and give back your things."
Miserheld coughed and said, "Alright, but at least go see, Mr. Slovakia, you’ll see it’s not that difficult. I know many ridiculously foolish mercenaries have come out alive before, and even with gains. Obviously, you’re not that foolish yet."
"Got it, got it," Jesse nodded.
He thought having Greed’s help would make things much smoother, and with the amount of money to be made, Greed should be interested as well.
It would be best to also prepare some sacred oil that can harm undead spirits, wondering if the people at Reliquary have such a thing.
He couldn’t possibly write another letter to Vereesa just to get a bottle of enchanted mana oil…
Does Greed know where he is now, did he return to Stormwind, or is he still at Nethergarde?
By the time Jesse got back to Booty Bay, it was already night. He wasn’t thinking about finding a place to sleep, especially since he had just found something that Dethmoora Darkeye might have touched and was still excited about it.
Considering that the elves didn’t really need sleep, they were probably excited at night too. Jesse casually asked a Goblin Sentry sitting on the edge of a wooden board where the elves gathered in Booty Bay and was told that a group of elves lived in a very beautiful human-style standalone building on the higher floor.
At night, Jesse climbed up the wooden board, following the goblin’s directions, and walked while observing the various signs in different languages by the moonlight at sea, hoping to find characters of the Sayaad Language from them.
However, there seemed to be every language here except for elvish. Jesse looked for a long time without seeing it until he saw a three-story standalone building with no signs.
Not only was it clean and tidy, but it was also decorated like a purple-tiled tower where archmages lived in the Wizard’s Sanctum, which stood out as somewhat out of place in the messy Booty Bay.
Of course, because the entire harbor was too chaotic, it didn’t look out of place, after all, any kind of building inserted in this chaotic place would simply add to the chaos.
Jesse walked over and knocked on the door. After a while, there was a sound of moving chairs inside, and a blonde elf wearing a sailor shirt and linen pants opened the door to peek out.
"Humans?" The elf muttered a word in Elvish, and Jesse understood the word ‘humans’ of course.
"You’ve come to the wrong place, human," he switched to the common language and said, "This isn’t where you should be."
"Is this Reliquary?" Jesse asked.
Hearing Jesse’s question, the elf raised one long eyebrow and said, "Indeed it is. Who told you to come here looking for Reliquary?"
Jesse took out the Windrunner family crest and handed it to the elf. The elf took it, opened his mouth in surprise, and said, "Mrs. Vereesa Windrunner’s ring. Are you here on behalf of Ms. Vereesa?"
Jesse paused for a moment, almost thinking he had remembered something wrong from Vereesa’s letter?
How can’t you tell if it’s Sylvanas’s or hers… Is it not obvious at first glance?!
"That’s right," Jesse replied.
"Come in and talk, sir." The elf’s tone suddenly became much more respectful.
Jesse nodded and walked in the door. The quiet room was simple yet elegant, with a unique smell of grass and plants that was different from the salty sea breeze outside, making Jesse feel like he had jumped from Booty Bay to Dalaran in an instant.
He noticed the lighting in the room, which was a flame caused by a floating Arcane crystal.
"I am Cyrus Lightracer, the Reliquary inspector stationed in Blackwater Bay. Since you are a friend of Mrs. Vereesa Windrunner, feel free to ask me for help with any difficulties, sir."
Jesse nodded and said, "Just call me Jurke."
"Mr. Jurke," the elf nodded.
Jesse placed the box on the table and said, "Currently, I am tracing the tracks of a warlock, Cyrus. I wonder if the Reliquary can help me by examining this item that he personally touched and find some clues."
He carefully opened the box, and the elf’s eyes widened almost immediately upon seeing the dagger.
"This belongs to the residents of Eldre’Thalas," he said.
"Eldre’Thalas?" Jesse asked in surprise.
The elf explained, "Eldre’Thalas is a city from the ancient Kaldorei Empire, one of the most important and oldest cities of the empire, its history is at least twelve thousand years old."
Jesse obviously knew what Eldre’Thalas was.
Because it has another name in the game – Dire Maul!
