Chapter 047: Dare Not to Think
The name of the magic wand shop was Stormwind Magic Wand, or… Storm Magic Wand. Jesse didn’t know if the name meant his shop was for Stormwind magic wands or if his magic wand could cause a storm. Either way, the name was quite impressive.
The shopkeeper, around 30 years old, wore a white shirt, styled his medium-length hair neatly, had a clean-shaven face, and was examining a short wand that looked like a twig in his hand.
However, when he glanced over and said coldly, "No visitors allowed."
"I’m here to pick out a magic wand for my boss at home."
"Who’s your boss?"
"I am Eden Malin’s assistant," Jesse was very used to leading the way for Eden Malin.
"Master Malin?" the shopkeeper put down the wand and said, "Well, I am Allan Hafgan. Malinmage is a regular customer of mine. Last time he mentioned he hired an assistant named Jesse…"
"Seso," Jesse added, "Jesse Seso."
"Mr Seso," Allan Hafgan smiled and said, "What brings you here today? Malinmage was here yesterday, mentioning he wanted to change the magic crystal on his magic wand and had already placed an order. Are you here to make any changes to that request?"
"Really?" Jesse paused and said, "I thought my boss wanted a completely new wand, so I came today to inquire about a suitable new magic wand. I didn’t know he had already been here. Since the boss has his own idea… then I won’t disturb."
"Welcome back next time," as the shopkeeper picked up his wand, Jesse immediately said, "By the way, I saw a group of soldiers transporting Orc prisoners in Redridge the other day."
"Oh?"
The shopkeeper put down the wand and looked up, showing a hint of impatience in his eyes, but since they had been chatting happily earlier, it seemed inappropriate to show any negative attitude now.
Jesse continued, "Among those Orc prisoners was a warlock wearing a robe with what seemed to be Orc magical runes. More importantly, the soldiers escorting him had a very strange magic wand."
When it comes to magic wands, the shopkeeper’s expression changed slightly. He carefully placed the short wand into a box and leaned in a bit, asking, "Can you describe the appearance of that magic wand in detail?"
"The stick is black," Jesse pretended to carefully recall, "but it seems to have some purple or green patterns on it. I can’t really tell the color, but it’s not just purple, it’s like there’s a hint of another color shining through. Soldiers use that stick as a walking cane, and the sound it makes when it touches the ground is not like metal or wood… really strange. I also noticed that at the top of that magic wand, there is a socket, perhaps used to hold magical gems."
"Yes, that’s right, just that the magical gem is missing," Allan Hafgan explained. "During the war, many warlocks like them failed to obtain the Shadow Stones, so they only had their wand handles left, which still hold some power even without the gems. It can enhance a warlock’s dark magic, quite magical, isn’t it?"
"Can our magic wands do that?" Jesse asked.
The shopkeeper replied, "Some can, but they must be made from the trees of Quel’Thalas. The woods of the Elven Kingdom have been infused with the Sunwell’s magic for a long time, not ordinary anymore but enchanted magic woods, such as starmetal. The magic wands made by them are the best, even better than those from Dalaran… well, Dalaran may have its ways now, but I still believe nothing compares to the natural materials of Quel’Thalas. If not wood, then metals like true silver or even more powerful, thorium. Or some magical creature’s bones, for example, dragon bones, but those are rare treasures, not for mass production, and the prices are unimaginable."
"So, what are Orc Warlocks’ magic wands made of?" Jesse asked again, as this was what he wanted to know.
Allan Hafgan looked at Jesse for a while, then rubbed his fingers and said, "My knowledge is not free, young lad, 20 copper coins."
Jesse reached into his pocket and counted out 12 copper coins on the table, "This is all I have."
"Alright," the shopkeeper said, "I do have some knowledge of Draenor’s minerals. After all, the expedition forces needed to investigate the natural landscapes and resources on the other side before crossing the Dark Portal. I happened to do some research on this aspect a few years ago while in Hillsbrad, also interviewed some Orc captives. Most of the Orc Warlocks’ magic wands come from trees severely influenced by Shadow Power, yet not corrupted, those trees grow in a place called Shadowmoon Valley."
When Hafgan mentioned Shadowmoon Valley, Jesse knew he was not talking nonsense.
In Draenor, there really is a place called Shadowmoon Valley. It is one of the most heavily corrupted areas by fel magic. If there are any trees strong enough to withstand the influence of dark powers without dying, they are often used as raw materials for warlocks’ magic wands.
Hafgan glanced at Jesse’s reaction, seeming to enjoy showing off his knowledge.
"Next, there are unique minerals in Draenor, with the most important one being a metal called Fel Iron. However, Fel Iron is contaminated by fel magic, making it unstable in nature. It can be used to make armor but not magic wands. Further refinement is needed. By fusing a rare mineral called Eternium with Fel Iron, it stabilizes to create a metal known as Felsteel, which Orcs use. However, Felsteel is green in color. I have seen a Felsteel wand before."
"If it’s black, I’m not sure if it’s a metal or wooden magic wand…" The shopkeeper stroked his chin, pondered for a moment, and asked, "Do you think it could be a demon’s magic wand? Demons are not just crazed beasts; many have magical abilities and require magic wands to enhance their magic. Orcs cooperate with demons, so some warlocks might possess magic wands provided by demons. If we had a physical item, we could determine more accurately."
"Can you buy a demon’s magic wand?" Jesse asked.
"Ha," Allan Hafgan chuckled reluctantly and said, "That’s no laughing matter. Only goblins might consider openly selling such items, and the prices would be shockingly high. There was a mysterious magic wand once auctioned in Booty Bay called Eredar Wizard, which sold for 240 gold coins to an elf buyer. By the way, do you know about Eredar?"
"Aliens," Jesse replied.
"Exactly, aliens, residents from another realm like Orcs but ten times stronger."
Leaving the magic wand shop, Jesse went to Malin’s study to clean the room and realized he didn’t feel excited about having over two hundred gold coins.
Even though having 7 gold coins sounded impressive, it was like hearing about the wealth of a billionaire – just a story to him.
