Chapter 469: Promise No Matter What
"About the warlock?" Miserheld glanced over and said, "Mr Slovakia, you keep talking about Essence of Undeath and warlocks, now you’ve got me nervous. You’re not really planning to get into trouble with the Kirin Tor, are you?"
"The Kirin Tor won’t bother you," Jesse said. "Don’t forget, I’m not just an Alchemist’s assistant, I’m also a mage. Right now, I’m tracking down a demon worshipper."
"Ah, another demon worshipper showing up now," Miserheld sighed in resignation.
"Jesse said, ‘I won’t let you contact this warlock directly. I am collecting clues about that person because I know you have many contacts in the Steamwheedle Cartel.’"
"Miserheld blinked and said, ‘Of course. But don’t think that if you say something nice, I will tell you everything! First, tell me, which warlock are you looking for?’"
The goblin kept saying the word "warlock," and Jesse asked, "Have you heard of Dethmoora Darkeye, this woman?"
"Is this a woman?" Miserheld blinked and said, "I have heard this name before, but I didn’t know it’s a woman. However, Dethmoora does sound like a woman’s name indeed."
"Have you heard of her?" Jesse asked.
Miserheld nodded and said, "I didn’t know she was a warlock, only that she was a very old demonology researcher. I used to think she was part of the Council of Tirisfal or Kirin Tor. She did leave behind some writings about demons. When I studied alchemy, I came across some parts involving the use of demon organs and body parts. What I mean is Dethmoora is a famous name, but I only cared about her books before, not about the person herself."
"It’s fine to care only about the books. I want to find a book handwritten or written by her," Jesse said.
"Dethmoora Darkeye’s manuscript," the goblin rubbed his fingers and said, "It definitely won’t be cheap, Mr. Slovakia, considering Kirin Tor has been trying hard to prevent such texts from circulating."
Ah, it’s always about money.
Jesse let out a soft sigh and leaned on the magic wand. "I don’t necessarily have to buy it. If you know any Black Magic collectors who could lend me one, that would be great. It doesn’t have to be a book, the key is to connect with Dethmoora."
"I do know a collector who loves Black Magic items," Miserheld said. "He has many dark ritual items from trolls, as well as magic materials and books from Orcs and demons. He has been collecting these things long before the Dark Portal opened."
"However, because of the dangerous items he has and the fear of mages from Kirin Tor or the Council of Tirisfal coming after him, he rarely shows his collection to outsiders. But he is a friend of mine, Mr. Slovakia, I can take you to meet him, just…"
"You are also interested in the ghosts of Karazhan and the Essence of Undeath, right?" the goblin said. "I can lend you that device, and we can split the Essence of Undeath fifty-fifty. No, how about sixty-forty, what do you think?"
Jesse furrowed his brow and said, "Ghosts…"
"You are a mage," the goblin glanced at Jesse’s magic wand and said, "I know that when some human towns had ghost troubles, they eventually turned to mages. Are you willing to track a legendary warlock but not deal with ghosts?"
"The issue is not about ghosts," Jesse said. "I have encountered ghosts before and even been to Ghost Town. Ghosts are not a big deal to me now. They used to be ordinary townspeople and villagers. However, the problem lies with Karazhan; I am not eager to provoke that place."
"Hmm, I see," the goblin said. "You are all afraid of Medivh, right? But Medivh is already dead, and dead for good. You mages know that. Can he come back just to deal with you?"
Who knows? Jesse thought to himself.
Anyway, he did come back to life later, although he was no longer the terrifying demon possessed by Sargeras.
"The disaster at Karazhan happened many years ago, so other goblins have already hired people to search for it, and they have found plenty of Essence of Undeath, just not selling it here," Miserheld shook his head and said. "You might be surprised, there are many customers in Kalimdor who need Essence of Undeath… trolls, elves, even Tauren."
"Indeed surprising," Jesse replied.
"To make it clearer," Miserheld picked up a small bottle and said, "If you successfully extract a soul, the Essence of Undeath you get will be about this much, it’s a kind of purple, swirling mist, kind of like liquid too."
"When the time comes, we split it 70-30, with me getting 70. If you are willing to sell your share to me, I’ll buy a bottle like this for 5 gold coins, how about that?"
"5 gold coins for a bottle like this?" Jesse asked. "I remember you owe a lot of money, don’t you?"
"Haha, you little rascal," Miserheld leaned on the table and said, "If I had no money, how could I earn money to repay my debts? Don’t worry about the rest, just decide if you want to go or not. Let me emphasize again, no one is asking you to actually go to Karazhan, those towns haunted by spirits are far from Karazhan, just unfortunate to have been affected by it. Besides, I know you are a good-hearted young man, isn’t it a good thing to help those spirits who have been unable to move on for so long escape their suffering a little earlier? You wouldn’t find wandering in the dark world around Karazhan enjoyable, would you?"
"Then I agree to go and check it out," Jesse nodded.
"Good, good," the goblin said. "When you return, remember to bring my device with you, along with the instruction manual. I have no ghosts here for you to test, so you will have to remember to test it during real combat."
"So you can’t guarantee if we can use it or not, right?" Jesse asked.
"At least there’s an 87.5% success rate, Mr. Slovakia," the goblin nodded, "So, to make up for the remaining 12.5%, I promise to take you to meet that collector…"
"Is he in Booty Bay?"
"He didn’t originally live in Booty Bay, of course, but because of the Dark Portal, he moved here, or rather, brought his home here."
"Brought his home here?"
"He lives on a ship, just beyond the mountain, follow me!"
