Chapter 464: Mageweave
Demon Hunter, not like Erlan or those scavengers, or self-proclaimed demon hunters, is a very special group.
They use the power of demons with their mortal bodies, their blood flowing with magic. In extreme situations, they can even transform into demons and fight demons. Many Demon Hunters even forget if they are human or demon.
The world’s first Demon Hunter, Illidan Stormrage, later summarized his process of becoming one into a training method for new recruits, creating a legion of apprentice Demon Hunters loyal to him, called the Illidari.
The key method for these Demon Hunters to gain new powers is the evil Mageweave on their bodies.
Acquiring these demon sigils is not easy; the initial batches of Demon Hunters either went mad or died.
Perhaps the Orcs also attempted something similar, wanting to use Mageweave to gain demonic powers. If they did try, they surely failed more than Illidan Stormrage.
Clearly, they found another low-grade method, which is to replicate the Mageweave onto their clothes, letting the garments absorb similar demonic power to strengthen themselves.
Molofeel leaned on Jesse’s shoulder and said, "These tattoos can only be activated by the most powerful Demon Lords, like Annihilan, the same group as Azgath whom you defeated, or Nathrezim, or the rulers of Eredar. It’s very hard for humans to empower these tattoos."
"But these powers are bound to the demon’s skin… You can cut off the skin, sew it onto your own skin… and gain the same powers, master."
She said this while lightly touching Jesse’s chest with her fingers. Of course, Jesse didn’t feel any affection or flirtation, he was only thinking about how uncomfortable the situation was.
"Of course," she continued, "The orcs who wrote this book are obviously much smarter. They can perform a ritual to transfer the sigils from demon skin onto clothing with the same sigils. This method using Demonic script allows for such a transfer."
With Molofeel’s explanation, Jesse began to understand better. This was the process of enchanting clothing completely with Demonic Runes to empower it.
At that moment, Jesse looked at the succubus’s bare shoulders and waist and asked, "Why do you not have these Mageweave on you?"
"I mentioned it earlier, master," Molofeel smiled and said, "Only the most powerful demons can carve such runes for their underlings to enhance their strength. The Burning Legion equips even their cannon fodder with Mageweave because they have no shortage of Demon Lords who want their legions to be unstoppable… so they arm them to the teeth."
"As for me, I never had such an opportunity. I pledged allegiance to Brutallus before he joined the Legion. I doubt that fool would know this kind of magic. Among the Annihilan, there are smart beings like their leader, Mannoroth, but clearly, Brutallus is not one of them."
"Ha!" Saenor suddenly jumped in, saying, "I never thought you would come to this day, Sayaad!"
Molofeel squinted at the imp and asked, "What do you want to do?"
Saenor chuckled and said, "You don’t have a lord giving you a seal… Let me tell you, I have one!"
Curiously, Jesse looked at its body but did not see any traces of Mageweave.
"Where?" he asked.
"Here," Saenor replied.
Speaking, Saenor opened his mouth wide, and Jesse actually saw a swirling fel magic rune on his upper jaw.
Saenor smiled and said, "How about that…"
"Who gave you the tattoo?" Molofeel asked unhappily.
"That would be my former master, Ghost King Yaluojabar!" Saenor said. "Transferred from a demon judge to me, forcing me to learn various demon incantations, attempting to summon a true Burning Legion messenger to the world of Nastoy, to make the Burning Legion accept his allegiance. It has been a great trouble for me!"
"Look at me, I’m still suffering because I learned so much… If only I had kept it a secret, but what else could I do for my master to become stronger?"
Hearing imp say this, Molofeel’s face turned dark.
"I want a demonic rune like this too…" she said coldly.
"Hahaha!" Saenor exclaimed excitedly, "This mother Sayaad is jealous! She’s jealous!"
"No." Molofeel gritted her teeth as she looked at Jesse, "You must get me one too."
"Where can I get one?" Jesse said helplessly.
"I don’t care, master…" Molofeel’s eyes darted around, then she suddenly lifted Saenor and asked, as if she remembered something, "You just said your former master, Ghost King Yaroslbal, could transfer Demonic Runes from the judge demon to you, so do imp perform this kind of ritual where you are from?"
"Maybe, but I… I wouldn’t know," Saenor replied.
"Don’t lie, Saenor," Jesse commanded.
"Oh, alright, why… darn it, I… will, okay, I will!" Saenor said in pain, "But I don’t want to transfer the power of Mageweave to this Sayaad, no!"
Molofeel chuckled and said, "Look, master, look, this little secret has been hiding from you until now."
"Well said, Saenor," Jesse said, "I don’t know if the new warlock in the basement can perform this ritual. If she can’t, when we gather all the materials, and finally enchant this robe, you will be chosen to do it."
Imp cried out, "Why is it me again? I haven’t organized the spell of the deceased Gakin for the master yet!"
"There will be a reward when it’s done," Jesse said. "Molofeel, then you can prepare a few Soul Shards for him."
Molofeel, who was originally grinning mischievously, frowned when he heard Jesse’s words and muttered, "Why… this lazy one! Without the master pushing, he can’t even finish a few simple spells in two or three days. All he does every day is put on a show here…"
"Who said I can’t do it? At least I managed to do the Curse of Recklessness," Saenor said. "It seems like Curse of Recklessness in the writing has at least two wrong sounds. If that Gakin can cast it, then he must be a very powerful master of dark magic."
"It may take a long time to gather all the materials, Saenor," Jesse said. "In some time, you may have to join me in the mission to find demons. Molofeel, that will be your time to shine."
"Heh!" Molofeel excitedly said, "I have finally waited for the opportunity to serve the master, after being suppressed for so long. Near the Dark Portal, those demons must have caused you a lot of harm. I will pay them back one by one…"
Jesse remembered that Greed might still be in the Blasted Lands helping the soldiers from Nethergarde clean up the demons near the Dark Portal, but he wasn’t sure what was happening in The Black Morass.
