Chapter 461: The Alchemist Who Doesn’t Make Money
Jesse finished writing the letter to Vereesa asking about the locations of the Reliquary members. After writing it, he sat on the chair and thought about trying to cast Shadow Bolt in the afternoon.
After a whole afternoon of practice, the basement was filled with a faint smell of shadowy odor. Jesse was even worried that this smell might drift into the lobby of The Slaughtered Lamb inn.
He should practice this magic as much as possible. In fact, he should master it to become his most skilled magic. In his opinion, a simple Shadow Power alone must be much stronger than flame magic mixed with shadow power.
As long as he practiced Shadow Bolt well enough, he could also attack enemies from afar like a powerful ice mage or fire mage in a Wizard’s Sanctum, instead of relying on the unreliable Scorch Curse which doesn’t reach far enough and has unstable damage.
Opening Gakin’s spellbook, he flipped to the page where Gakin had shown him the magic eye spell, Curse of Recklessness, and of course, the Life Drain that Gakin had already taught him.
The Life Drain spell here has not been corrected yet, it is still the incorrect version that Gakin originally learned.
It seems Zardeth hasn’t had time to organize these things using his Demonic materials that Gakin wrote down. Let Saenor and Molofeel handle this task.
At that moment, Jalane Ayrole emerged from the passageway with her package and said to Jesse, "Zardeth mentioned that you know how to speak Orcish, Jesse."
"I know some." Jesse nodded.
Jalane handed a thick-skinned notebook, sewn together with an unknown creature’s hide, to Jesse and said, "Zardeth mentioned to you about the Shadow Council’s robe-making method, Jesse. I tried translating some Orcish language materials myself, but it was very difficult and hard to ensure accuracy. Since this is not fiction, it’s okay if the translation is not perfect. So, I’m asking for your help."
Speaking coldly, she looked at Jesse nodding, and Jalane thanked and left directly.
It seemed that the unsuccessful learning of Shadow Bolt this afternoon indeed made her feel very bad.
Jesse took the notebook, opened it, and saw some robe patterns, dark spell symbols and positions, a list of necessary materials and how to obtain them in Orcish language. Many of the materials he couldn’t understand.
After packing these things into his Warlock Pack, Jesse returned to Ursula’s Alchemy Room, lay down on the nearby chair, and took a deep breath.
The excuse to go to the library with Malin this morning was not entirely false. His Orcish language skills were obviously not good enough, and he needed more practice.
He was quite familiar with grammar, pronunciation rules, etc., but due to lack of practice opportunities, his biggest weakness now was his vocabulary.
At this moment, Ursula was packing bottles into a box next to the cabinet. Upon seeing Jesse coming in and looking over, she asked, "Are you planning to sleep here tonight, Jesse?"
"Tomorrow morning, I need to ask an Elf Mage for help, so I won’t go back home today. It takes two to three hours for a round trip." Jesse tilted his head and asked, "Is it not convenient tonight?"
"It’s not inconvenient. You can sleep here if you want," Ursula said with a smile.
Jesse glanced at the medicine box in her hand and said, "Ursula, I lost the medicine pouch you gave me when I was at the Dark Portal. Can you give me another one?"
"Lost it?" Ursula turned back and said, "Okay, I’ll give you mine for now. I’ll buy another one another day. This thing is quite expensive."
"How much is it? I’ll pay," Jesse said.
"It’s about fifty or sixty silver coins, and it needs to be custom-made by a tailor." Ursula handed Jesse a bag in an old one, saying, "Don’t look down on it."
"Can Jalane help make it?" Jesse asked.
"Their family makes robes," Ursula said. "They don’t understand how difficult it is to make an Alchemist’s medicine pouch. They think it’s just a simple bag with no technical difficulty. If you ask her to make it, she would probably feel insulted and be angry with you at best."
"Then forget it." Jesse took out a gold coin and handed it to Ursula, saying, "Take it. Consider it compensation for me losing the last pouch you gave me, Ursula."
Ursula took the gold coin and asked, "Do you need money now?"
"I don’t need just one or two gold coins," Jesse said. "I made some money on the way to Lordaeron and it seems like you could use some extra cash."
Ursula smiled shyly and said, "You’re right, I’ll accept it then."
Jesse knew Ursula had been earning money by making and selling medicine, trading herbs, and even Erlan would help her sell things. Other members of the Dagger Association also helped her gather herbs.
Even Vereesa thought that after staying here for so long, Ursula’s skills had greatly improved.
So where did all her money go? Did she buy a house or spend it all on materials?
"By the way, where do you live?" Jesse asked.
"I live in Stormwind, in the trade district near the south gate," Ursula said. "Haven’t you asked Jarel where I live? Why are you suddenly asking about this?"
Jesse said, "I’m thinking of moving to a new house. Do you know any landlords or something? I did ask Jarel to help me find one, but I also wanted to ask others. Is your house rented or did you buy it?"
"Of course I am renting," said Ursula. "I can’t afford to buy a house in the trade district. Those small spaces won’t do. I can’t help you with that, Jesse. I hardly interact with anyone in Stormwind. Most of the time, I either stay here or at home. I rarely go to the taverns outside. I was contemplating for a long time whether to go see Lumere and her daughter from The Need of Alchemists after hearing about what happened to you at the Dark Portal. I’m just not good at dealing with unfamiliar people."
Jesse nodded and casually remarked, "So, you’re quite a homebody."
"What?" Ursula asked.
Jesse quickly explained, "It means you like to stay indoors."
"Okay, that makes sense. Familiar places bring comfort," Ursula smiled.
"Well then, I’ll go to bed now," Jesse said, lying back. "I’m a bit tired from practicing spells today."
"Thank you for today, Jesse," Ursula said. "I never thought I could learn magic that Zardeth finds difficult. I learned Shadow Bolt so smoothly… Gakin had told everyone before that if we could find the incantation for Shadow Bolt, every warlock in our group would advance in their magical abilities."
Lying back in the chair, Jesse said, "I think your talent for Shadow Magic may be much stronger than you realize, Ursula. I truly believe that."
