Chapter 457: Names and Their Owners
It was raining in the morning, Jesse went outside and felt the cold rain on his hand.
Putting on his cloak, he made his way to Mage Quarter. Perhaps due to the rain, there weren’t many people in the Mage Quarter, mostly young apprentices eagerly waiting for their teachers.
Jesse glanced towards Malin’s study and saw the door open slightly. It must be Malin, who should have returned from Nethergarde by now. Many soldiers and mages who came to support them had already gone back home before Jesse left.
To enter the Wizard’s Sanctum, he should go early to ask for a ring.
Arriving at the door of the study, Jesse knocked and heard the familiar voice inside saying, "Please come in!"
Pushing open the door, Jesse saw Malin sitting behind the desk. Malin looked up, glanced at the figure at the door, then smiled and said, "You’re back from Lordaeron, Mr. Seso? When did you arrive at Stormwind?"
"Probably two or three days ago, but for now, it’s Mr. Jurke, the master." Jesse smiled, sat properly on a nearby chair, and took off his soaked cloak.
"Jurke, the pale purple magic light… I know, that’s a name favored by the Dark Iron Dwarves." Malin said with a slight smile on his face. "Though I hate to say it, it’s like the name of every dark magic practitioner who gets caught."
"Is that name really that unlucky?" Jesse asked.
"It’s a Dwarven language issue," Malin explained. "Researchers of black magic think that just picking a language other than Common and Dwarven, adding a fancy word, preferably related to demons or darkness, will make them unique with a hint of exoticism. But in the end, all their colleagues think the same. And most of these people only know Common and Dwarven, so Dwarven language is a popular choice."
"That being said, I can help you make a ring with the name Jurke to indicate your identity, Mr. Seso. It’s no big deal. After all, don’t forget that Archmage Khadgar’s name is also in Dwarven language. Before him, every Khadgar sounded like an uncultured brute, but now Khadgar has become a refined name. So, ultimately, how a name is perceived depends on the person it belongs to."
Jesse rubbed his eyes, feeling a bit regretful for letting Greed choose a name for him, but since it was already done, he decided to stick with it.
"Thank you, Master." He nodded.
"By the way, where is Amy?"
"Amy has already gone to Dalaran." Malin adjusted his glasses and glanced over, saying, "Are you looking for her? She wanted to wait for you to return, but the Kirin Tor didn’t give her much time, so she had to leave."
"It’s nothing important, I can’t delay her time." Jesse said, "Is she officially a mage now?"
"Of course, what exam could be more valuable than the Nethergarde battle? And her other grades have already reached the required level," Malin sighed lightly, "To be honest, I wasn’t really keen on her going to Dalaran at first. After all, the Kirin Tor has always been recruiting the most talented magic users from the other six kingdoms. When will we be able to stand on equal footing with the Kirin Tor? But on the other hand, I am happy for her. Her mentor, Amanza, is the top Frost mage in Kirin Tor."
"I am also very happy for her, Master," Jesse said.
"If Amy hears you say that, she will definitely be very happy too." Malin chuckled, "But why did you come to me for the ring so soon after returning from the north? Is there something urgent?"
Jesse nodded and said, "I must continue studying Orcish language and Dragon language, so I need to check some materials at the Wizard’s Sanctum library. After all, if you don’t practice a language for a while, it can become unfamiliar. It might take a few more days for the ring to be ready, so I thought I’d come earlier. Thank you for your help, Master."
"No need to be polite," Malin said. "If you have any troubles I can help with in the future, you can come find me here, Mr. Seso. But it’s better to come in the morning, because there are many people in the afternoon, and many still remember your appearance."
"I remember, Master."
Jesse nodded as he was about to leave, but then he remembered something and said, "Master, I have one more thing to ask."
"Go ahead."
"I want to write a letter to Quel’Thalas, to Mrs. Vereesa Windrunner, but because of my current situation… I need to find an Elf Mage in Stormwind who knows about me to help deliver it. Is there anyone trustworthy here?"
After some thought, Malin said, "There is a lady named Elsharin from Quel’Thalas still in the Mage Quarter, she is a senior Arcane mage of the Magus group. She also participated in maintaining the Magic Crystal in the final battle, so she knows about you."
"Where does she live?" Jesse asked.
Malin replied, "Enter the passage from the garden west of the Wizard’s Sanctum and go all the way to the deepest part of that community. There is a small building where Elf Mages who participated in the Dark Portal battle rest, there should not be many Elf Mages still there."
"Thank you, Master," Jesse nodded.
When he arrived at the door, he looked up at the sky and headed towards The Slaughtered Lamb. He had already made plans with Zardeth to try out that new spell today.
When he entered the hall, Zardeth and Sorrel were waiting for him behind the campfire.
Ursula was sitting on the side, and Felhound Basadre was lying next to her. The Alchemist even had her hand rested on the back of the Felhound, which was covered in black strange fur and scales.
The two had become really good friends.
Jesse felt a bit more at ease with Basadre’s protection. Even if the succubus summoned at The Slaughtered Lamb had any problems, at least Ursula would be much safer.
Succubus, although good at fighting, found it hard to showcase their strengths under the pressure of Felhound. After all, they needed magical energy to use Charm. Jalane Ayrole sat alone with a magic wand wrapped in cloth, possibly with a gemstone imbued with Shadow Power.
"Sorry, everyone," Jesse said. "I had some things to take care of, so I’m a bit late."
Zardeth stood up and said, "Jarel’s lamb is already tied up in the practice room. Jesse, we can start practicing that new spell anytime."
Jesse nodded, eager to find out what this new magic was all about.
Everyone went to the practice room. Ursula handed the Shadow Protection Potion to Jesse. After Jesse drank it, Zardeth said, "All of us have tried it, including Jalane, but it didn’t seem to work."
"But I did feel some shadow energy being triggered. I think there’s something we’re not doing right," Jalane said.
Jesse looked at the newcomer and said, "Let me give it a try then."
"Remember when I talked about Shadow Magic influenced by emotions, Zardeth? I believe humans find it hard to sense emotions through magic, but succubus can. This time, let’s have Sorrel focus on feeling the shadow energy I gather when casting a spell, to see if we can discover anything," Jesse explained.
"Did you hear what Jesse said, Sorrel?" Zardeth asked.
"Of course, I’m ready to help, master," Sorrel smiled and added, "And Mr. Seso too."
