Chapter 455: Shadow Council Recipe
Jesse wrapped his cloak tightly as he left The Slaughtered Lamb, keeping an eye out for anyone who might be watching him.
He felt that instead of detecting demons, he might need a more advanced spell to detect humanoid creatures, to see who was paying attention to him.
The words of Bethor Iceshard from Lordaeron confirmed his suspicions, making him a bit more paranoid.
It’s no wonder Zardeth is always suspicious, running a secret dark magic group hidden in the Mage Quarter, it’s normal for him to be on edge.
Following Jarel’s instructions, Jesse arrived at the doors of a small building by the canal.
Across the canal was the square of the Cathedral of Light, Jesse was certain this wasn’t Zardeth’s only residence, it was hard to imagine him content to live in such a rundown place.
Climbing the steps, he knocked on the door and softly asked, "Zardeth?"
The door was soon opened by Zardeth himself, who upon seeing Jesse immediately raised his eyes and said, "Jesse… you finally came to see me, did Jarel send you? Why didn’t you say anything when you left last time?"
"I was in a hurry to return to Lordaeron, Zardeth, I’m sorry," Jesse said, "And at that time, I didn’t know where to find you, I forgot that Jarel knew our address."
Zardeth nodded and said, "It’s partly my fault too. I haven’t been going to The Slaughtered Lamb much lately. Mr Basadre, who doesn’t talk much, helps us watch over the basement now. I feel much safer than before."
He tilted his head and said, "Come in."
Jesse nodded and walked into the room. A strong smell of a succubus hit him in the face, making him feel a bit uncomfortable.
He was used to the smell of Molofeel, but he was always wary of the strange scents of other succubi. Maybe he had encountered too many succubi in the Blasted Lands who wanted to touch his neck.
The dimly lit room was filled with scrolls and boxes of spell materials. Sorrel sat naked in the corner chair, illuminated by the firelight on one side, with her skin and full breasts glowing red.
She stood up, smiling, and said, "Jesse, we meet again."
"Please call me Mr. Seso, Miss Sorrel," Jesse said coldly.
"As you wish, Mr. Seso," the succubus said softly.
Zardeth smiled and said, "Sorrel is afraid of you, Jesse. Please, have a seat."
Jesse sat down and said, "I’m not scared of Molofeel at all."
Sorrel’s smile faded when she heard the name Molofeel.
She couldn’t help but ask, "I’ve always been curious, Mr. Seso, how did you meet Miss Molofeel? She’s a high-ranking Sayaad, a hunter of female demons… followers of the Pit Lord, hired assassins by the Eredar… they shouldn’t have dealings with mortals."
"It’s none of your business, Sorrel," Zardeth said unhappily.
"It’s okay," Jesse said. "Perhaps you’ve heard, Zardeth, that I was involved in a mission to hunt down the leader of the Death Knights before. As a reward, I was left with the Shadow Gem from Teron Gorefiend’s staff, which I used to summon Molofeel. I was just lucky, I guess, since at that time I wasn’t sure what material to use for the summoning ritual."
Zardeth sighed softly and said, "Sorrel just talks without thinking, but I’m glad you’re honest with me. I did hear about this… you truly are a talented spellcaster, whether as a mage or one of us, Jesse. At first, I even doubted if the Jesse Seso from the rumors about Gorefiend’s death was you."
He paused, deep in thought, "So, different spell materials can attract different demons…"
Sorrel frowned, asking urgently, "Master, are you planning to abandon me? I have never done anything wrong to you, never betrayed you."
"What are you talking about, Sorrel?" Zardeth said, "We and Jeshi are friends and partners now, we are cooperating happily, that’s what matters most to me."
"Thank you, master, I feel much better now." Sorrel smiled and squinted, saying, "I will love you even more and serve you doubly."
Saying that, Sorrel slowly leaned in to kiss the warlock with black hair’s neck, and in the dim light, their intimacy felt strangely eerie.
Jesse awkwardly cleared his throat and asked, "Zardeth, how are those Demonic materials? Did they help?"
"You mean the ones you left for Ursula," Zardeth nodded as he embraced the succubus, "Jesse, if you had brought them out earlier, we might have solved many problems sooner. I used your Demonic materials to fix several obstacles in the spells, including the spells of corrosion and Unending Breath… These two spells were originally found by us from the Orcs, but were always difficult to cast successfully. After I made adjustments based on the Demonic, casting them became much smoother. Ursula and Surena have been practicing, and the progress is quite promising."
Jesse explained helplessly, "I brought them out as quickly as I could. Translating those materials took a lot of time for me and my demon servants. Zardeth, you also know that not all Demonic spells are familiar to the succubus."
"I am well aware of that," Zardeth nodded, "and I won’t let you hand over your hard work for nothing. Your contributions will surely be rewarded. You know the tailor I found, her name is Jalane Ayrole. She has a method for making shadow robes obtained from the Shadow Council. Do you know about the Shadow Council?"
"Of course, I do," Jesse said, "It’s the warlock council of the Orcs."
"Yes, and it’s a very high-level group that directly serves their Great Chief," Zardeth said, "The process and materials for making that robe are written in Orcish Language, and we are still looking for someone who can translate Orcish Language to translate that formula. The plan is to complete Jalane’s first robe and then attempt to make that of the Shadow Council… Of course, modifications will be made to make it more suitable for the human form."
Jesse said, "I have learned some Orcish Language in the Wizard’s Sanctum, Zardeth, but I have a bit of trouble with the vocabulary. I could go to the library to borrow…"
Thinking about this made him frown. His ring had been confiscated, so he might not be able to go to the library now.
By the way, Malin mentioned that he could get another ring with a new name on it.
No need to get a special "apprentice mage" ring, just having a symbol of an assistant or apprentice would allow him to access Orcish language materials in the library.
"Can you really do it?" Zardeth sighed and said, "When will you tell everything you know, Jesse?"
"I didn’t know Orcish when I joined the Dagger Association, I learned it slowly over the year, Zardeth," Jesse scratched his head. "But I’m having some trouble entering the Mage Tower in the Wizard’s Sanctum now. If you can’t find an Orcish translator, let me give it a try first and think of a solution."
Zardeth said, "There’s no other choice at the moment, Jesse. Although it’s hard to find someone who knows Orcish, it’s not impossible. It’s just difficult to find someone we can trust and who is skilled enough. I can’t hand over the recipe for this robe Jalane Ayrole obtained to other warlocks, especially dwarves, for translation. It belongs to our Dagger Association."
Jesse nodded and said, "I understand."
Zardeth said, "So, next time we meet Jalane, I’ll tell her to give that to you. For now, please help me look at this. This is one of the reasons I asked Jarel to call you here."
After speaking, he gently touched Sorrel’s chest and said, "Bring me the spell I showed you last time for Jesse."
