Chapter 454: Another "New Member"
After meeting Jalane, Jesse went to the Alchemy Room where Ursula was carefully packaging medicines. Hearing footsteps behind her, Ursula turned around and smiled at Jesse, saying, "You’re back, Jesse, just wait a moment…"
Jesse nodded and sat down, waiting for Ursula to finish her work. After organizing the bottles, he asked, "What is this medicine?"
"This isn’t medicine, it’s a type of Shadow Magic dye," Ursula pointed to the dark bottles, saying, "Our new recruit hopes I can help her assist in making a new robe, to prove her skills to us."
"She seems quite enthusiastic," Jesse whispered, "She shouldn’t be able to hear us here, right?"
"She can’t hear us," Ursula replied, "She’s not a Felhound."
Hearing this, Jesse couldn’t help but smile, but he could also sense that Ursula didn’t really like this Jalane Ayrole.
"What’s her relationship with Zardeth?" Jesse asked.
"You mean they’re a couple, right?" Ursula chuckled. "I’m not interested, to be honest she seems a bit condescending, I don’t like that feeling."
"I had a chat with her just now," Jesse leaned back on the chair, holding onto the backrest. "It was just a brief meeting, so I don’t have a deep impression. I think she’s just an average person, except she does look a bit fierce, or maybe aloof, just like you mentioned."
"She knows who you are, Jesse," Ursula sighed. "How could she have already upset you as soon as she joined us? Zardeth must have told her about your background ages ago."
"Alright," Jesse said. "Don’t pay too much attention to her, after all we’re just working together. As long as she’s useful, helping us control Shadow Magic more smoothly, everything else is secondary, as long as she follows the rules."
Ursula reluctantly nodded.
"By the way, I’ve delivered your letter to Ambermill, to that Alchemy Room or something, I totally forgot." Jesse said.
"Eldred," Ursula said.
"Is that Eldred your partner in crime?" Jesse casually asked. "He seems quite familiar to you."
Ursula sighed and stared at Jesse, saying, "Are you sure you want to ask so many questions, Jesse Seso? If you continue to ask, I will tell you, but you should know that I am reluctant to speak about it."
"I was just curious when I asked. Have you shown Zardeth the Demonic materials I left here last time? What did he think of them?" Jesse raised his eyebrows and asked.
"A timely help." Ursula raised her eyebrows and said, "Zardeth was a bit annoyed. He thinks you always like to hide these good things, causing everyone to run around like headless chickens before revealing them."
"It’s not like that at all. I admit that I kept the succubus spell hidden for a while, but as for these Demonic materials, I only recently organized them completely," Jesse sighed and said. "Zardeth is always suspicious about this and that… I’ll go talk to him later and clear things up."
"But it was indeed very helpful, Jesse." Ursula glanced at the Felhound walking towards them and continued, "With those Demonic materials and the help of Zardeth’s succubus, Miss Sorrel, we have learned a few spells quickly. Zardeth learned them soon, and I am practicing too. Do you want me to tell you the spells?"
"Just within this month?" Jesse asked.
"Just within this month," Ursula smiled and confirmed.
"Your progress is really fast," Jesse said. "I will go directly to Zardeth to ask. Otherwise, he might suspect something between us and start doubting again."
"He’s not that serious in blaming you," Ursula smiled and said, then her expression turned cold as she added, "By the way, Surena Caledon also summoned a succubus, Jesse."
"That’s really good," nodded Jesse. "It must have been done with the help of Sorrel and Basadre, right?"
"Yes, this time we were prepared, and with the help of the Shadow Protection Potion, everything went much smoother."
Ursula turned her head and frowned, seeming hesitant to speak.
Jesse asked, "So is there a problem?"
"The succubus summoned by Surena… is a man," Ursula said.
Jesse looked at the Alchemist, almost able to imagine what would happen between Surena Caledon and an incubus.
Ursula said, "For those few days, every time I saw Surena, it felt like she was hanging by a thread… leaning on walls to walk, unable to sit still, speaking weakly."
Jesse chuckled, "Erlan must be very irritated, right?"
"Of course, that’s why he’s impatient to summon his own succubus, Jesse," Ursula said coldly. "It can be foreseen that our basement is about to become a dreadful den of sin, I mean, an even more dreadful den of sin."
"You are one of them, Jesse Seso, stop looking at me so innocently, you troublemaker… Surena always wants me to summon one too, darn it, I’d rather have a giant demon devour me alive than have that demon thing in front of me every day, let alone entering my body… Impossible. That incubus’s smirking face makes me sick, I’ve warned Surena not to bring him to the Alchemy Room. I should prepare a big pair of scissors to keep here, darn it… the ones I use for cutting herbs are obviously not big enough."
Hearing this, Jesse shifted uncomfortably and asked, "Why does it have to be an incubus? You can summon a female."
"What do you mean?" Ursula asked, "Isn’t it usually males summoning females and vice versa?"
"Gakin summoned an incubus too, don’t you remember?" Jesse said, "I think it might not be fixed, or it could depend on the spell materials, we haven’t figured it out yet."
"Ah… you’re right." Ursula nodded, then shook her head, "It’s not necessary, Basadre is obedient, and the imp is very helpful, we have them, that’s enough. I’m not interested in summoning a succubus for myself. If I really need a succubus to do something for me, I’ll ask Miss Molofeel for help, will you call her then?"
"Of course," Jesse nodded, "She likes you a lot, Ursula."
"She doesn’t like me, she helps me because I’m your friend." Ursula raised her eyebrows, "Every time she helps, she emphasizes this point, always saying if it wasn’t for you, she would have hung all the fools in this basement and whipped them…"
Hearing this, Jesse laughed, "She’s just joking, after all, she didn’t bring a whip with her."
