Chapter 045: Just Deduct the Money
"What do you want to do, what idea?" Jesse glanced sideways at Greed, trying to act as if he was seriously injured and unable to move.
Greed leaned against the door frame, hands on hips, and said, "Listen, it’s about strengthening your sword skills, continuous training, until you become a master swordsman. I need to step up my training too, as I haven’t even reached that level yet. This way, you can experience the pure joy of battle, enjoy the satisfaction of exercising your body and mind, which is far more appealing than the corrupt Dark Energy! Tell me, do you envy those ugly and bulky Orc Warlocks more, or do you admire Danath Trollbane, leading the army to attack the Dark Portal? As a human, the answer seems quite clear to me."
"You’re right, heroes like Danath are truly inspiring." Jesse teased, "But instead of Danath’s strength, I envy his noble status – no need to learn swordsmanship or magic, just lying down and having someone take care of you, make money for you."
Greed said, "Noble? Haven’t you heard the old saying, even royal bloodlines aren’t eternal. In the end, only the sword in your hand will remain loyal to you forever!"
After saying that, he leaned back on the chair beside him and said, "But it really is something to envy. I can only blame my ancestors for not being capable."
Jesse chuckled, feeling aches everywhere he had been bitten.
After having a meal at Great Lake Farm, he hadn’t eaten so much meat in a long time. He thought wolf meat might be tough and sour, like Worg meat from Duskwood, but it wasn’t that strange. It tasted more like donkey meat he had eaten before, quite delicious actually.
But isn’t this just dog meat when you think about it?
Resting overnight, the next morning they packed up bundles of wolf skins, Greed and Jesse set off back to Stormwind.
They looked like wounded soldiers retreating from a battle with Gnolls in Redridge, and along the way, merchants and travelers were asking them about the trade route between Lakeshire and Grand Town.
With the bounty from the mission and the reward for finding the child, the farmer added an extra 2 silver coins as a thank you, totaling 9 silver coins. Greed gave Jesse 6 silver coins directly as a bounty for his exceptional contribution and for healing.
But since Greed only had 4 silver coins from the farmer, he had to go to Old Town to collect the 5 silver coin bounty, so he took out two silver coins from his own pocket to give to Jesse.
Considering the large amount of money shared with the dwarf in Duskwood previously, he felt he should be a bit more generous this time.
Jesse had 6 silver coins, so he now had a total of 30 silver coins saved up.
During the wolf-catching trip, Jesse’s last three shirts were damaged, including one of his thin summer shirts. Now he had no clean clothes left and needed to buy new ones.
The old clothing stores in Stormwind were mostly in Old Town. The clothes in the trade district were expensive and since Jesse was still injured, he couldn’t walk to Old Town.
Using an Orc staff for support, Jesse made his way to a clothing store near the canal, located in the center of the trade district. From there, he could see the fountain in the square and the gnomes’ accounting firm, making it the busiest place in Stormwind.
After facing a group of wolves a few nights ago, Jesse felt uneasy with the staff in his hand, always thinking someone was watching him.
The "Lionheart Gear" not only sold clothing but also armor, mainly leather jackets for travelers or simple iron-plated armor. Due to it being summer, the items didn’t sell well and were gathering dust in the store. There were no half or full suits of armor like the royal guards or knights in Stormwind wore.
After buying a light brown linen shirt in the style of Lordaeron, Jesse felt rejuvenated.
However, his gray pants looked out of place and had some tears, so following the store owner’s suggestion, he purchased a pair of durable dark brown loose leather pants, which, although a bit hot for summer, would be suitable as summer was ending.
Jesse usually only wore one pair of pants for an entire year to save money. His chosen pants were good for not getting his legs too cold in Stormwind’s winter or too hot in summer, and they also protected him from thorny plants in the wilderness.
The whole set of clothes cost a total of 4 silver coins. The pants were a bit expensive, but considering how sturdy and pretty they are, it’s okay.
After coming back home and taking a nap, Jesse slowly moved the stick into the Wizard’s Sanctum in the afternoon.
While the apprentices were about to finish their class, Jesse sat at the entrance of the spiral staircase, waiting until Eden Malin approached.
"Mr. Seso?"
Jesse struggled to sit up and said, "Master, I’ve had some urgent matters these days, I’m really sorry. I thought I could come back yesterday."
"Out helping in a fight?" Malin looked at Jesse’s slightly lifted right leg and asked, "Or accidentally bitten by a dog?"
"Got it all." Jesse replied.
Malin raised his glasses and said, "It’s okay, healing is more important. There’s nothing much to do these days, just deducting some money."
Jesse sighed, about to turn back home, when Malin suddenly stopped him and said, "Oh, Mr. Seso, there’s one more thing about the Orcish Language course. I have already spoken to Master Duchamp, and you are already on the list. He’s very willing to accept new students, especially those with great talent and willingness to learn."
Jesse’s eyes lit up and he asked, "When is the class?"
Malin replied, "It’s two to three times a week, on Tuesday afternoons, Wednesday mornings, and Thursday afternoons. You can skip the Wednesday morning class since you have to work, right? You can go to the language section in the library to read the documents about Language Orcish collected by scholars and masters for early studying and making up for missed classes. Just head to the top floor of the library and then down one level, you can ask the administrator for help."
That’s great! If I check those Language Orcish documents and find the meanings of the words, maybe I can quickly understand the content on that scroll.
If I study hard, I can unlock the contents of the complete and damaged books, unlock magic secrets, and reach the peak of life soon. Jesse can’t wait!
Malin suddenly asked, "Have you ever wondered why Master Duchamp thinks you are very talented and eager to learn?"
"Huh?" Jesse thought, why does she even need to ask that, but still inquired, "How did that master know? I don’t think I know him…"
Malin smiled and said, "Of course, because the students I recommend are all diligent, talented learners."
