Chapter 448: Returning to Hometown
Three days later, they could finally see the walls of Lordaeron royal city ahead.
The number of people on the road increased, some heading to the port, others to various farms, Brill, or Stratholme in the east. The intersecting crowds gathered at the gates of the royal city.
When they neared, Jesse saw rows of white mages at the city gate.
Soul Link made Jesse feel Molofeel tense up, he knew these two demons wouldn’t pass the scrutiny of these mages.
Orc refugees were scattered throughout Alterac Mountains, from Tirisfal Glades, Silverpine, to Hillsbrad, with dark warlocks capable of summoning demons among them.
It had been a long time since anyone heard from Orgrim Doomhammer, but the people in the royal city were worried that demons might infiltrate the city under the guidance of a warlock and cause chaos.
Their worry was very necessary, especially since Jesse was about to bring two demons into the city, which was already a destabilizing factor.
Therefore, the only choice was to go to Brill first and deal with these two demons.
Walking along a northward path through the woods, Jesse thought about how convenient it would be if he could summon these demons to him at any time. When he didn’t need them, he could send them back to the Twisting Nether or another place to be summoned whenever necessary.
However, it was not as easy as in a game. Zardeth and Gakin had never heard of a spell that could summon entities at any time. Molofeel also mentioned that using an Anti-summon Spell to send her back to the Twisting Nether meant that the next demon summoned with the same spell might not be her.
This might represent two different schools of thought. One, like Zardeth, believed that demons should be very familiar to warlocks, like companions, friends, and partners, helping each other and cooperating until they even depended on each other.
Both sides understanding each other’s strengths would make their cooperation smoother. However, undoubtedly, for a group of people like warlocks who always lived in the dark side, having one more friend meant having one more connection, and sometimes even a weakness.
For example, when Saenor first summoned this imp, Jesse didn’t care where it was sent to carry out a suicidal mission, like rushing into a Gnoll cave just to see what was inside.
But now, asking him to do the same might make it harder for him to decide.
This small imp had become almost like a friend to him. If he couldn’t ensure safety, he might find it hard to assign similar tasks to him again.
Speaking of which, maybe it’s time to learn a magic similar to the Eye of Kilrogg.
Jesse remembered Gakin mentioning this magic spell. He called it the "magic eye curse". Now that Gakin’s materials on magic are with Zardeth, Jesse should try to find him and ask about it after returning to Stormwind.
Another approach is to treat summoned demons like disposable items, just using them and discarding them without forming any emotional attachment, just like Gakin does.
This approach seems more convenient, summoning whatever demon is needed, perhaps taking a mana potion to replenish and deal with the battle.
However, this approach is obviously more practical when summoning low-level demons like Imps or Felhounds. Once you summon a Succubus or a more complex demon, they may not immediately obey you, which could complicate things greatly.
Imagine summoning a demon when facing danger, only to have to fight it as well. The enemies might take advantage of that distraction to attack you.
Moving forward, he glanced at the lush green hillsides along the road, the pumpkin farms in the distance already ripe, creating golden patches from this viewpoint.
The lower wheat fields rippled in waves as the warm wind of Tirisfal blew past them, even the forests on the hills and the white flag on the high slope watchtower swayed rhythmically.
As a person from Lordaeron, it’s easy to forget that this is the "Tirisfal Forest", where there are ghosts and ghouls everywhere, farms abandoned, huge trees half-dead, and decaying Gnoll zombies walking around.
Lost in thought and mesmerized by the scenery of Tirisfal, Jesse almost unconsciously walked to Brill. He has walked this road countless times since he was a child, it’s already a habit. Passing by a windmill on a slope, he could see a bustling town in the lowlands in the distance.
Brill is surrounded by fields from several farms around, originally a rural market. With the royal city to the south becoming more prosperous, it became the center of the entire Tirisfal and Lordaeron continent, and Brill developed into such a beautiful town.
In the evening, Jesse looked towards the west bank of the river in the distance, where he could faintly see a red-roofed house on top of a hill, which is his mother’s family farm. It didn’t look impressive from here, not as big as the nearby farms.
Of course, Jesse hardly knew anyone from his mother’s side, rarely visited since he was young, and stopped all communication as he grew up, never been there before.
The inn in Brill has a unique name – "End of the Journey" inn, sounds a bit strange at first, but thinking about it, it’s quite fitting.
Arriving here, slowing down, take a rest, don’t rush so much…
Stepping into the inn, he smelled the familiar scent of fried lamb cheese mixed with pumpkin wine.
He glanced at the counter from afar, recognizing the owner, a child he used to play with when he was young. But since Jesse moved to the royal city, they hadn’t seen each other, and the owner probably didn’t remember him anymore.
"Boss, I want to book a room, in a quieter place, let’s book for a week."
The young boss stared at Jesse for a while and then said, "No problem, sir. You sound like a local, don’t you?"
Jesse looked up at him and said, "Yes, but the house has been sold."
The boss nodded and said, "Moved inside the city walls, right? There are many people like that nowadays. Many say there are Orcs lurking in Tirisfal now, but I have never seen them."
"Do Orcs steal pumpkins?" Jesse asked.
The boss chuckled and said, "I’ve heard of it happening occasionally, but I think they might prefer eating flesh. What about you, sir, what would you like to eat?"
"Not for now."
Jesse wanted to chat a bit more but in order to avoid any trouble and being recognized at the inn, he calmly ended the conversation, hurriedly went upstairs.
