Chapter 444: Can’t Have Not Even a Little Blood, Right?
The next day, before Jesse could think about anything, the captain called all the passengers to the deck for a meeting.
Kul Tiran was very familiar with the sea. Jesse believed that he could guess things, just like the island mage. So, this time they were probably investigating this matter.
"Everyone, last night the Naga attacked our ship. We tried to warn all the passengers, but sadly, two brave sailors died from serious injuries. Many others were hurt too. If it weren’t for the passengers willing to help, the casualties could have been much higher."
The captain cleared his throat and continued, "However, the Naga didn’t attack our ship for no reason. As far as I know, they often come for magical artifacts… So, passengers with magical items or enchanted weapons, please voluntarily show them to my advisor, Mr. Harold, for inspection."
"Passenger mages, please rest assured that not all magical items attract the Naga, it must be a certain type of…"
At this point, he whispered to the nearby Kul Tiran mage for a moment, then added, "That kind of item must have a special significance to the Naga."
"If you choose to stay on board, there will certainly be danger ahead on our journey, as we still estimate seven days to reach Southshore. If we can’t find that item, we will have to stop at Menethil Harbor and seek help from the mages there."
Jesse looked around and noticed that the other mages and apprentices were not moving.
He scratched his neck impatiently, wondering why something always goes wrong every time he takes a boat to Lordaeron, even though sailing to Booty Bay is usually smooth sailing.
The mage frowned when no one admitted, then said something to the captain who seemed unsure but eventually nodded.
"Since no one is willing to cooperate…" the captain said, "I will give you another ten minutes to confess. If no one steps forward to admit causing trouble, I will search all magical cargo with Mr. Harold and the sailors."
"If we find any treasures belonging to the Naga, the uncooperative passenger will be thrown into the sea. Believe me, Mr. Harold can recognize things from the deep sea."
"I apologize for this decision," the captain said, "but it is for the safety of all other innocent passengers. We have already lost two people, gentlemen and ladies."
Hearing this, Jesse touched the Naga beads on his wrist.
They wouldn’t really throw themselves off the ship because of this thing, right?
Now, he noticed the other mages were also checking their magical tools, including their magic wands.
Most passengers were feeling uneasy and urging the person carrying something mysterious to admit it quickly without delaying everyone, as no one wanted the ship to stay at Menethil Harbor for a few more days and no one wanted to force anyone off the ship because of this issue.
Suddenly, shouts were heard in the distance.
"Sorry, sorry, I’ll take it out! Please don’t throw me into the sea!"
A Bronzebeard Dwarf pushed through the crowd, looking quite dignified, holding a beautiful cloth bundle in his hands.
"I think… it must be this thing."
He said as he carefully unfolded the layers of cloth, revealing a beautiful small pearl inside.
Many in the crowd gasped as they were surprised by the pearl glistening in the sunlight.
While beautiful, the pearl exuded a slightly uncomfortable Arcane energy, Jesse noticed the wary look in the eyes of the Kul Tiran Mage.
"It should be returned to the sea," the mage suddenly said, "Throw this pearl into the sea yourself, dwarf."
The dwarf’s face changed and said, "Throw it down?! Is this how you decided to deal with it?! Do you know how valuable this thing is?"
"How valuable? Can you buy two lives with it?" the mage shouted, "Hurry up and throw it down, don’t waste time! Don’t force us to act, once it drags on until dusk, the whole ship will be at risk because of your greed!"
"Don’t make me say it a third time!"
"No! Absolutely not, just throw me down instead, I’ll swim to Menethil Harbor alone!" the dwarf roared.
"Take that pearl away," the mage told the nearby sailors.
Several people immediately squeezed through the crowd and walked over, but they didn’t expect the dwarf to pull out a small pistol from his pocket!
"Damn it, don’t come over! Are you all serious?!" the dwarf pointed at everyone in front of him, shouting loudly, and the crowd quickly dispersed to the side.
Jesse could see that this mage, despite being knowledgeable in many ways, seemed to lack skills in combat. Just as Saenor had said, he was an enchanter, so he looked flustered and couldn’t do anything to the dwarf holding the gun at the moment.
"Everyone, don’t act rashly," Jesse shouted, "I have a way, Mr. Harold."
He shouted, and everyone looked over here.
"I have a box here that can shield Arcane energy," he said to the mage. "I’ll use the box to help the dwarf take that bead to Southshore, should be no problem, right?"
The mage hesitated for a moment and said, "Let me see your box."
"I’ll go back and get it."
When Jesse said this, people nearby immediately started gossiping.
"If there’s really such a powerful treasure box, why leave it in the cabin?"
"How is that possible…"
Back in the cabin, Jesse took out the Living Ice Crystals from the box and handed them to Molofeel, saying, "Take it, protect it with your life."
"Then you might as well kill me, master," Molofeel said helplessly.
Jesse widened his eyes, and the succubus winced in pain as she pinched the blue ice cube with two fingers.
"Thank you." Jesse touched her horn, and the succubus reluctantly nodded.
Saenor couldn’t help but chuckle beside them, and Molofeel suddenly turned to stare at him.
Jesse came out and closed the door, a scream coming from inside that almost drowned out the sounds of the crashing waves outside.
Once on the deck, Jesse took out the box and said, "It’s this."
The mage took the box and immediately saw The Violet Eye on it.
"Kirin Tor?"
"Something from Kirin Tor." Jesse nodded and then looked at the dwarf who was already holding a pistol in both hands.
"Try your luck with your beads, dwarf."
The dwarf looked at the mage, who nodded to signal the sailors to step aside. The dwarf took out the beads and put them back in the box, then looked suspiciously at Jesse and asked, "Are you all working together?"
"What if you fight them, hit one unlucky guy, and then get thrown into the sea?" Jesse asked.
"Okay, I’ll trust you," said the dwarf.
The dwarf sighed, nodded, and Jesse closed the box. The mage took the box and examined it, saying, "Indeed… there’s nothing in it. So, is this truly the Kirin Tor’s treasure box? What was it originally meant to hold?"
"You’re asking too many questions," Jesse said.
"Alright, I didn’t mean to offend, sir," the mage said, looking at the captain.
The captain waved his hand and said, "There’s no need for more bloodshed. If that’s feasible… let it be."
The Kul Tiran Mage also nodded, thanked Jesse, and the captain told everyone to disperse. The dwarf excitedly widened his eyes and asked, "Is it really okay now? I’m truly sorry… I didn’t realize this thing could attract Naga, I never thought…"
"So someone warned you about this?" Jesse asked.
The dwarf complained, "Too many people are jealous of this treasure. How do I know who is telling the truth and who is lying? Some even say the Queen of Naga will marry the owner of this treasure. Should I believe that too?"
"So, how much is this thing worth?" Jesse asked.
Hearing this question, the dwarf became alert and hesitantly muttered, "Actually… it’s not worth much, probably about five gold coins."
"Then I’ll charge five gold coins for safekeeping," Jesse said.
"What?!" the dwarf exclaimed, jumping up, "Aren’t you just robbing me? You want to charge five gold coins for something worth five gold coins?!"
Jesse pulled out a piece of Azuresong Mageblade and said, "Since you asked, yes, I am robbing you."
The Arcane light reflected off the sword illuminated the dwarf’s face. He hesitated for a moment and said, "Five gold coins… just five gold coins."
"Now, because of your attitude, I’m not very happy. Six," Jesse said. "And I want it now."
"Six… it’s six, sorry, young man," the dwarf nodded as he took out a pouch of coins and handed over a few gold coins.
Jesse knew that this gem must be worth much more than just a few coins.
The dwarf looked like he belonged to the Explorer Association or was a treasure hunter associated with them. The leather armor he was wearing was quite valuable, possibly worth two or three gold coins. Someone who would risk their life to protect something wouldn’t sell it for just five gold coins, right?
He even felt like he didn’t charge enough for safekeeping.
Jesse put the gold coins in his pocket and said, "A pleasure doing business with you. When you make it to shore, come find me, dwarf, and call me Mr. Jurke."
"Jurke?" the dwarf asked.
"Yes, that’s me, Jurke from your group," Jesse said.
The dwarf nodded sadly.
