Chapter 440: Who Did You Kill?
The next morning, Jesse took a carriage to Goldshire. After resting there for a night, Jesse left for Stormwind even before dawn, arriving in the morning.
After the Dark Portal closed, the once gloomy sky and lingering evil presence were all swept away.
However, what bothered Jesse was how scorching hot Stormwind could get in August and September.
After spending time in the cloudy and slightly cold Blast Lands, enduring weeks of torment from shadow and fel magic, Jesse found it hard to adjust to the intense sunlight.
Other than that, Jesse felt quite good returning to Stormwind.
As he entered the city gates, he noticed many craftsmen setting up scaffolding to renovate the bridge.
This meant that this place would soon be known as the Valley of Heroes, with statues of several heroes, including Lothar’s son, to be placed here.
Thinking back to over a year ago when he watched the expedition forces leave Stormwind, Jesse could never have imagined how different things would be a year later.
He unexpectedly joined the battle at Dark Portal and even left his own statue at Nethergarde.
On the way back home, Jesse took out his keys and opened the door, but inside was completely empty.
"Molofeel?"
"Saenor?"
The whole room was emptied out except for the furniture. His clothes and some everyday items were still there, but his money, demon scrolls, and everything else were all gone.
What’s going on?
There wasn’t even a trace of demonic presence in the room.
Could the Wizard’s Sanctum have ransacked the place?
Damn it, where did those two demons go? Were they taken away or killed?
Jesse dropped his luggage and immediately headed towards Mage Quarter, hurrying towards The Slaughtered Lamb along the way.
When he reached the tavern’s entrance, he cautiously peeked inside. The tavern was empty in the morning, with Jarel Moor cleaning the tables all by himself.
Hearing someone enter at the door, Jarel casually said, "Just tell me what you need."
Jesse coughed, and Jarel glanced over in his direction.
When Jarel saw Jesse, he clearly looked surprised.
"Jesse? Is that you?"
"Yes, it’s me." Jesse glanced towards the direction of the basement and asked, "Is Molofeel here?"
The bartender nodded, and Jesse breathed a sigh of relief.
"We thought you were dead," Jarel said.
"How is that possible?" Jesse said, "Molofeel isn’t here, but if I died, she would definitely sense it."
"She insists that you’re not dead, but Stormwind… at least Zardeth has received news of your death," Jarel said. "He said you were killed by a Demon Lord."
"That’s wrong," Jesse said. "I killed that Demon Lord."
"So it’s true?" Jarel asked in amazement, "So you really are Jesse Seso?"
"Hey," Jesse said, "If you mention it to anyone, be ready for SI: 7 to come slit your throat at night."
Jarel hesitated for a moment, then nodded and said, "I understand… Jesse."
"Let’s talk later," Jesse smiled and headed towards the basement.
After entering the iron gate and reaching the hall, he used Detect Demon for the first time since waking up in Nethergarde.
Other than the vigilant Felhound staring at him, he didn’t see anything else.
Where is Molofeel?
Suddenly, there was a dark presence behind him…
Jesse immediately turned around and grabbed the demon’s neck. Molofeel was dragged out from the shadows, grasping his wrist tightly and staring into his eyes.
Jesse furrowed his brows and asked, "Why did you ambush me?"
Molofeel replied, "My master made me worry, so I have to give you a little punishment…"
Jesse knew the succubus was just joking, otherwise, with her power, he wouldn’t have been able to capture her so easily.
"I’m not dead, why are you worried?"
The succubus leaned against the wall and said sorrowfully, "For a while… I could hardly feel your presence, but I knew you weren’t dead because of our agreement! So I knew you must have been injured, so far that even the Soul Link couldn’t reach you…"
"Luckily, there’s no Soul Link," Jesse said. "Otherwise, believe me, you might have died miserably, Molofeel."
"Hmm, I wonder… But is the master worried about me?" Molofeel asked with a smile.
"Sort of." Jesse said, "You were looking at me with more than thirty gold coins. If you lose them, do you want to rely on that imp over there? By the way, where did that imp go?"
Suddenly, a golden imp came bouncing down the hallway towards the Alchemy Room, shouting as it ran, "The master is back! The master is back!"
Jesse asked, "So what’s going on? Why aren’t we living in the house anymore?"
"A group of mages visited our room, master," Molofeel explained, "They came from afar with a strong purpose… The imp sensed something was wrong, so we took your Demonic materials and spell scrolls with us."
"Of course… and the most important thing for you – gold!" the imp exclaimed, "I hid them and took them away!"
Glancing at the imp, Molofeel asked, "What were those mages here for? Did you reveal yourself as a demon worshipper in Nethergarde?"
"Just to clarify, I’m not a demon worshipper," Jesse said, looking at her.
"Of course, but demons worship you," the succubus leaned against Jesse and said, "Master, praise me for doing well."
Jesse nodded and said, "Alright, you guys did really well. Those mages were indeed investigating me because I publicly killed a demon leader in Nethergarde, so I exposed some things. But they let me go because I also did something good, right?"
"So basically, the Holy Light hasn’t completely confused the human mind yet," Molofeel leaned in and asked, "So, you killed a what leader? The Mo’arg commander?"
"You don’t know his name? But does it really matter which demon you killed," Jesse said, "Anyway, it will eventually resurrect in the Twisting Nether."
"It’s not the same, Master!" Saenor said, "Indeed, for weak demons, it doesn’t matter, no one cares about their constant cycle of life and death! But for powerful demons, the process of reshaping their bodies deep in the Twisting Nether may mean losing their original power… even a fall in status. And being killed near the Dark Portal where the fel magic fire spreads, could even mean severe damage to the soul!"
Molofeel nodded and said, "It’s true, so I’m really curious, Master, who did you kill in the end?"
"Azgath," Jesse said, "Have you heard of him?"
Molofeel’s smile froze instantly. "You killed Azgath?"
