Chapter 419: Elves and Dwarves
No matter if General Alexandros Mograine’s words are true, at least one thing he said was right: the army from Quel’Thalas arrived at Nethergarde that night.
When the allies arrived, Jesse went up to the lookout tower of the Mage Tower and saw a long line of elves in blue and gold robes riding white horses and various birds, slowly approaching Nethergarde. They were followed by a number of cargo vehicles, with the most eye-catching being a beautifully decorated transport wagon carrying a lovely chest.
Jesse was curious about what was inside the chest, but he was more interested in the elven leaders walking at the front.
From the message of the Elf Ranger in Stonard, it was certain that among them was Sylvanas Windrunner.
Thinking about this, he couldn’t help but feel excited, as he had never seen this significant figure before in this world. He was determined to see what Ranger-General Sylvanas, before becoming the Queen of the Undead, looked like.
Jesse was not the only one interested; many mages who heard the horn also prepared to go downstairs to see the elves. By now, the square was already crowded. Jesse tried to push through the crowd to get a better view, but he ended up being pushed to the back.
At that moment, he heard a few Bronzebeard Dwarves next to him complaining about why there weren’t as many people welcoming them when they arrived.
In truth, whether the dwarves felt welcomed or not didn’t matter, as when they arrived, several places were under attack by demons and many soldiers were sent to support and defend.
If Jesse hadn’t been resting at the priest’s place before, he would have had a mission too. Because of this, he felt guilty for a while, knowing that his injuries were not that severe.
Right now, Greed moved from the side of the dwarf to Jesse’s side, and patted Jesse’s chest, saying, "How are your injuries? Feeling better?"
"Almost there," Jesse asked, "Are you here to see Sylvanas Windrunner too?"
"Of course!" Greed chuckled, "Many say that Alleria and Sylvanas look alike, who knows if it’s true or not. I must see it with my own eyes!"
As the gates lifted up, after a group of elves holding blue phoenix flags passed by, a fair-haired woman in blue feather armor rode into the fortress on a dark green bird.
The feathers of the bird were incredibly beautiful, like something out of a painting. It walked with a proud and somewhat flamboyant gait, resembling the Quel’dorei who raised them.
Several generals from Nethergarde and a leader of the Farstriders stood together to welcome them. From afar, they shouted some welcoming words. Jesse seemed to hear one of the generals mention Sylvanas’s name, and the blonde woman nodded in response – she was Sylvanas.
Compared to Vereesa, Sylvanas had sharper features, resembling Alleria more. Her magic eye, glowing with blue Arcane light, was slender and deep, exerting a noticeable pressure when she looked towards the human group.
On Sylvanas’s left was a male elf that Jesse didn’t recognize, dressed in a Farstriders cloak and golden armor. His deep golden hair was tied up in a high ponytail, and he walked silently next to Sylvanas with a polite smile.
"Who is that man?" Jesse asked Greed, who also shook his head.
"Lotharmar Theron," said a red-clothed mage beside. "The deputy of General Windrunner, a powerful ranger lord."
Indeed, it was Lotharmar Theron.
In another timeline, after the death of the Scourge Sun King, Prince Kael’thas Sunstrider appointed him as the regent of Sin’dorei and Quel’Thalas. Later, after Kael’thas died, he naturally became the true ruler of Quel’Thalas.
This trip to Nethergarde was not in vain. They met several legendary heroes. With so many great leaders present, Nethergarde should be fine, right?
At that moment, Jesse saw a familiar figure among the Farstriders behind Sylvanas – it was Vereesa.
Vereesa kept a close eye on Sylvanas’s every move until the Ranger-General and Nethergarde’s leaders finished their conversation, then she looked sideways.
Many elves had come here – mages, rangers, shield-bearing spearmen, and even sword-and-shield-wielding spellbreakers. Considering Quel’Thalas had recently suffered heavy losses and still faced threats from the Amani, it was not easy to gather this group to support Nethergarde, especially with many elven guards already there.
Led by several human knights, the elven group headed towards a fortress behind Nethergarde’s high ground, a place specifically reserved for the elves to stay.
A huge, intricately decorated chest was accompanied by a group of Kirin Tor mages in purple robes towards the direction of the Mage Tower. Jesse saw the chest being opened at the base of the tower, revealing a massive object wrapped in silk, which was then carried inside by soldiers and mages.
What is that thing… Jesse looked up at the top of the Mage Tower, could it be the Magic Stone that provides magical support?
"Which one is Vereesa?" Greed’s question interrupted his thoughts.
"Haven’t you seen her before?" Jesse said.
"Just saw her once in Dalaran, can’t remember what she looks like." Greed said anxiously on a nearby stone step, which was already occupied by a dwarf.
"And, she’s so far away, wrapped up tightly in a hood." he complained.
Jesse pointed at the silver-haired elf riding a red ostrich and said, "That one."
"Ah…" the dwarf nodded and said, "I see, she didn’t greet you, are you feeling upset, kid?"
Jesse said, "There are so many people in front of us, and we didn’t squeeze to the front, how could she see me?"
"She’s a Farstrider," Greed said, "Haven’t you heard of an Elf Ranger’s sharp eyes? One look and she knows, as long as she knows you… she won’t miss you."
"You have a lot of free time," Jesse said. "Why don’t you go to the gryphon nest and ask if there are any new orders today? The Gryphon Riders are very busy, don’t miss any important tasks and end up being punished by your commander for desertion."
Greed said, "There really are tasks that they blow horns for me to hear… I’m not joking, I was hoping to have the chance to thank Ms. Vereesa for finding someone to heal my eyes. If you go to find her, remember to bring me along."
"I’d like to go," Jesse pointed to the road intersection above and said. "But look over there, the elves have already surrounded that road intersection. Would they let me, a stranger, go in?"
Greed looked over and after thinking for a while said, "You can say that you know…"
"Do you really want me to say that?" Jesse sighed.
"It’s really unlike you, haha!" Greed laughed and said. "Let’s try another time; shall we go to the tavern now, Jesse? I don’t know if it’s crowded now. I haven’t touched a drop of alcohol since I arrived in Nethergarde these days. I’m feeling the itch right now."
"Let’s go," Jesse nodded.
The two entered the tavern, and it was indeed crowded, so they couldn’t find any empty seats. They sipped their drinks slowly on the side because it was extremely difficult to squeeze through to the counter to speak to the owner. After managing to get one drink, neither of them wanted to go through another round. They could only cherish what they had in their hands.
In Nethergarde, there was only plain ale with a local burnt taste, but even so, it was enough to satisfy their craving.
After drinking for a while, Greed nudged Jesse and said, "Can you try using your water-making magic to add some ice for me? How about that?"
Jesse replied, "If you’re okay with watching your remaining bit of drink get blown up by ice cubes just for some fun, then I can do that for you, Greed."
"You seem quite proud…" muttered Greed.
"Jesse," a familiar voice suddenly came from beside them, "I knew I’d find you here."
Jesse turned around and saw a female elf with a hood on, sneaking through the crowd towards them, it was Vereesa.
"You knew I was here?"
"I saw you, earlier outside…" Vereesa tilted her head and looked at Greed before addressing him, "Hello, you’re Greed Thunderfist, right? I’ve heard a lot about you from Jesse. Nice to meet you, Mr. Greed."
Though her words were polite, her tone was quite rude.
Greed quickly gulped down his drink, set down his cup, glanced at Jesse, then at Vereesa, cleared his throat, and softly said, "Hello, Miss Windrunner…"
