Chapter 405: The Unusual Mage
The soldiers arrived behind the Murloc village, where about twenty people were tied up tightly with ropes. Most of them hadn’t eaten for days and were too weak to speak. Even when they saw the rescue team, only two or three had the strength to cry out.
"It’s a good thing we didn’t arrive any later." The male Elf Ranger at the front cut the ropes and said, "If we had waited until tomorrow, who knows how many more people would have died. We can’t bear the consequences of the ceremony being completed."
"Thanks to Mr. Seso, we were able to arrive in time," said Captain Quinton as he helped a human prisoner who couldn’t sit up on his own. "I heard most mages have gone to support the battle at Nethergarde, so I wasn’t expecting to find such a powerful mage."
"I’m honored to be of help," Jesse nodded.
After untying everyone, giving them some simple food and water, and counting them, it was discovered that four people had died. Most of the survivors were extremely weak from the torment of Shadow Magic.
The soldiers gave the herbs and Healing Potions to the injured people based on how badly they were hurt. Paladin Captain Quinton also helped feed them, but he didn’t seem to be very good at using Holy Light to heal others.
Nowadays, most of the Silver Hand Knights have just learned how to call upon the Holy Light to help themselves in battle. It’s normal for them not to be able to heal their teammates like priests. Jesse got injured too, and after the battle, he realized that the wound on his waist from the Felhound’s tentacle was quite serious, with several deep blood holes making his belly ache.
Using some unknown herbs from another soldier, he applied them to the wound, and it started to feel a bit better after about half an hour.
After helping to place the wounded and bodies properly, Jesse sat next to a tree watching the soldiers resting and eating, wondering what kind of demons they would have to face in the near future.
"Thank you, mage."
A female elf approached and handed Jesse a cookie. Jesse took it and said, "Thanks, Farstriders. Weren’t you planning to help me fight off those demons too?"
"I thought you might need help, especially against the Felhound that hunts mages." The elf said, "But you are more skilled than I thought. Why didn’t you go to Nethergarde?"
"Maybe my teacher thought I would be more useful here than on the battlefield." Jesse said awkwardly, "Or maybe I spent too much time fighting and didn’t focus on studying magic properly."
The elf chuckled and said, "Looks like those Felhounds picked the wrong target."
After a while, she stopped smiling and said, "A few days ago, when the demons first appeared, I thought it would take Lordaeron Alliance a month or even longer to send reinforcements. I didn’t expect Kingdom of Stormwind to react so quickly. I was prepared to die in battle at Stonard."
Jesse took a bite of a cookie and said, "This is about the expedition… On the other side of the Dark Portal, there are too many people’s families and friends. From faraway Lordaeron, Stromgarde, to nearby Stormwind."
"And also Quel’Thalas," the ranger continued, "I heard the Ranger-General is on her way to Nethergarde."
"The Ranger-General of Silvermoon City?" Jesse asked, "She’s coming to Nethergarde?"
"Of course," the elf said, "Alleria Windrunner is her sister, how could she ignore the crisis here. Though I’m not sure about the situation with trolls in Quel’Thalas, after the Orc War, Zul’jin and his tribe were heavily damaged, they probably won’t make any moves easily."
Not sure if Vereesa Windrunner is coming.
Jesse thought as he grasped the hilt of his sword at his waist. Since receiving the sword, he had wanted to thank Vereesa in person. After all, if it wasn’t for this sword, he might have died in the cellars of Uldaman by now.
Although he had considered writing a thank you letter, he always felt it wasn’t serious and formal enough, so he never got around to it.
"Your sword," the elf seemed to notice his movement, "It has a strong Arcane energy, I noticed it before, could you show it to me?"
Jesse nodded and handed her the long sword. Farstriders took the light magical sword and looked at it back and forth, soon becoming fascinated by its beauty.
"This is the most beautiful sword I have ever seen, mage," she whispered. "Does it have a name?"
"Azuresong Mageblade," Jesse said.
Hearing this name, the elf stared at Jesse in surprise and said, "I know there is also an Azuresong Mageblade in the treasury of the Windrunner Family. Rumor has it that Lady Madrigosa, in gratitude for the Windrunner Family’s protection of Everbreeze Forest and the Sunwell, bestowed this precious sword."
Madrigosa. Jesse remembered this name. She was responsible, along with the blue dragon who later became the Dragon Aspect, Kalecgos, for observing the Sunwell and all of Quel’Thalas. Blue dragons, as magical Guardians, had the duty to protect and oversee Azeroth’s magical sources.
In the game, when the Sunwell was taken over by demons, the blue dragon, Madrigosa, stood up to the vanguard of the Burning Legion, Brutallus, the wingless Demon Lord who tore off Molofeel’s wings. However, she was defeated and died a tragic death.
"This is the one, ranger," Jesse said. "If there is only one Azuresong Mageblade."
"Of course, there is only one…" the ranger looked at the sword again and asked, "Why are you carrying it? Wait… are you the human mage who teamed up with Mrs. Vereesa Windrunner to defeat Teron Gorefiend?"
Jesse nodded and said, "Indeed, it was me."
"So that’s how it is, I heard the same news in Nethergarde too. The death of Teron Gorefiend has lifted the spirits of all Farstriders… When I saw you casually take down those Felhounds, I knew you were no ordinary apprentice mage."
The elf spoke as she ran her fingers over the sword shimmering with Arcane light. The sword seemed to respond to this child of the Sunwell, emitting a gentle blue glow that wrapped around her fingers.
"I had a dear uncle who perished at the hands of a Death Knight," she said. "You and Ms. Vereesa are both saviors of the Eversong Woods. This sword is more fitting in your hands. I can sense that it desires more than anyone to purify the tainted blood of demons and Orcs. No matter how exquisite the Windrunner Family’s treasury is, it is not where it belongs."
"May the sun continue to guide your path forward, human."
