Chapter 392: The Dark Master’s Legacy

On Friday morning, Jesse left Stormwind with two demons. They stayed overnight in Goldshire and crossed over the Nazferiti river the next day as dusk approached.

The dim light naturally carried a gloomy atmosphere, especially as they entered Duskwood.

Once they entered the deserted area south of the Nazferiti river, the imp began chattering to Jesse about how it discovered the curse. Jesse carried Gorefiend’s magic wand and as he heard the imp speak the words of the curse that he had guessed before, he felt the dark gem responding from time to time.

This curse was definitely special.

Sawyer, Avarus, Antalya, Manuel Leroy, Wilma.

It was indeed Demonic. With Jesse’s current vocabulary, he could roughly sense the meaning the curse intended to convey.

But, it must be said, the feeling of speaking it was even stranger than any other Demonic he had heard before.

Perhaps this was what the imp meant, like the speech of the Eredar, cold and wise in its evil nature.

Spin… darkness… vanish… calling…

Feeling the deep meaning in these spells, Jesse started to feel a bit nervous. As he walked into the late night, the summer Duskwood was still very quiet, not even the faint animal noises in the woods that he and Vereesa had heard last time when they came at this hour.

With two demons present, especially Molofeel, even the beasts tainted by shadow knew better than to provoke this otherworldly red-clad killer.

Jesse looked around at the half-dead old trees, the withered and limp weeds, and the rotting mud, saying, "I think this is about it."

He cast an Arcane Intellect spell on himself, saying, "If I pass out from using up too much magic, remember to take me to a safe place, Molofeel."

The succubus nodded and said, "I will protect you with my soul, master."

"If any strange shadow mishaps occur, remind me not to be inexplicably hit by magic flying in from who knows where."

"Protect me well, Saenor. If there’s an unavoidable emergency, remember to use your Blood Pact on me or Molofeel."

"No problem, master!" the imp exclaimed, "I can’t wait to see my master practice this magic, it’s so exciting!"

Jesse put two cherries in his mouth, enjoying the sweetness of the fruit, which somewhat lifted his spirits tainted by the darkness of the forest.

"Molofeel, there’s something important to note. I mean, just in case, if my will is overwhelmed by the power of darkness and my emotions spiral out of control, try to use mental magic to stop me."

"I can’t do it," Molofeel said bluntly. "It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just beyond my abilities. I can’t charm you, master, even when I was freshly summoned, I could only charm you for a few seconds when you completely let your guard down. I simply can’t stop you now from doing anything."

"Believe in your own will, master, after all, it’s what drew me to this world."

Jesse looked at Molofeel in silence for a while and said, "I understand."

He glanced at the wisdom potion given to him by Ursula, decided to tuck it into his potion pouch for now, and would use it later after figuring out how, as the potion’s effects only lasted a few hours.

Taking a few deep breaths, he fixed his gaze on a lone oak tree that seemed to have broken for some unknown reason ahead, making it his target, no matter what the incantation was.

Raising Gorefiend’s magic wand, he held the gemstone up in the air.

Without any casting motions, without any other cues, only the incantation, he had to find a fitting casting motion by himself.

This was Jesse’s first time exploring such a difficult spell on his own.

Spin… darkness… vanish… call…

Sawyer… Avarus.

While chanting, Jesse felt a dark energy swirling around him, as if the shadows had heard his call.

He hadn’t felt this so strongly back in Elwynn Forest. Perhaps it was because he was prepared for this shadow ritual.

Antalya, Manuel Leroy, Wilma…

As he finished chanting the spell, the feeling rose with his rapidly depleting energy, then vanished into the treetops.

Jesse took a few deep breaths and was surprised to feel a bit tired.

The two demons’ expressions were no longer as relaxed as before; they both looked up towards where Jesse’s feeling had disappeared.

"Did you notice too?" he asked.

"Quite obvious, sir," Molofeel shook his head and said, "Although I’ve dealt with many demons and seen all sorts of strange Demon Warlocks casting various weird spells, I’ve never witnessed this kind of power before. Oddly enough, I could sense some… emotions from this magic."

"What emotions?" Jesse asked.

"Hatred… loneliness," Molofeel smiled slightly.

Noticing emotions from dark magic isn’t unusual, considering the strong connection between Shadow Magic and emotions. And succubi, being emotional demons, are even more sensitive to emotions.

Jesse also felt a hint of anger deep down while chanting spells. He initially thought it was frustration from unsuccessful casting, but with Molofeel’s insight, he realized it was indeed the influence of the spell’s energy.

He reached for the potion bag, but eventually put it down. He couldn’t possibly drink a Mana Potion on his first attempt, especially with a whole night ahead of him.

Jesse took a rest for a while, nibbling on the snacks he brought, recalling the recent feelings. Once he felt his energy was almost back to normal, he tried again.

However, the feeling was the same this time, no improvement. He needed to change his strategy.

Hatred, loneliness.

Do you have to understand these two feelings in order to help unleash the spell?

Hatred, he couldn’t think of anything at once, but loneliness…

Remembering the time when he first arrived in this world, there was nothing lonelier than that.

He felt completely out of place in Azeroth, like a total outsider, even his own parents took a long time for him to accept.

He had so much to say, but nowhere to speak, so many emotions to express, but could only keep them in his heart.

No one in this world could know his feelings, could understand his difficulties. Of course, he couldn’t say it either, if he did, he would definitely die a tragic death.

It wasn’t until he gradually grew up, gradually could leave home to play with those truly his age, that he could finally start to let go of these suppressed emotions little by little, put them in his heart, try to live like a normal Lordaeron person, grow up like a normal child, and accept everything in this world. Now thinking back to those memories, it was like a story from hundreds of years ago.

After resting for a few hours, when his energy was almost restored, he took out a green bottle, drank some Wisdom Potion, and returned to the center of the woods.

Remembering what he was just thinking, he quietly said, "Sawyer, Avarus, Antalya, Manuel Leroy, Wilma."

The familiar feeling resurfaced, Jesse’s energy lifted Shadow Power gathering from all directions. Just then, he saw countless purple stars swirling in the sky like a long snake. However, as he was amazed by this sight, his attention wavered, and the snakes quickly dispersed like sand falling into water…

Exhausted, Jesse sat panting heavily on the ground, looking at the empty sky, his excited screams becoming increasingly faint.

At that moment, the whispers in Gorefiend’s memory resurfaced in his mind.

Jesse realized that was not Gorefiend’s voice, it was… another Orc’s voice, the voice of an Orc Warlock revered and admired by Gorefiend!

Gul’dan… In that moment, Gorefiend tried to remember Gul’dan’s incantation, even as his spirit faded away, it remained ingrained in Jesse’s mind!

This was Gul’dan’s magic!
