Chapter 390: The Basement Guardian
Erlan and Surena arrived at the basement together, with Jesse noticing Erlan carrying a bundle that contained a vague shadow.
Is this an imp?
Just as he was about to exclaim that Erlan had summoned an imp, he remembered that revealing his ability to Detect Demon, which he possessed, might not be wise to disclose to the other members of the Dagger Association right away.
After all, this was not a spell, nor was it an ability to teach others; speaking of it might invite suspicion.
However, Erlan soon could not contain his excitement and called out to the people below, "Come see the demon under my control."
"Gelkik, show yourself!"
A light green imp jumped out of Erlan’s bag and looked around, shouting, "I am Gelkik, hehe!"
"I thought you summoned something…" Surena rolled her eyes at him.
Ursula smiled and said, "But now you are the only member here without a familiar, Surena."
"Fine," Surena replied reluctantly.
"Congratulations, Erlan," Jesse said with a smile. "I knew you could do it."
Erlan immediately asked, "When will you help me summon a succubus?"
"At least deal with the Felhunter first, Erlan…" Zardeth said. "Now we need to quickly help Ursula complete the Felhunter’s summoning ritual."
The group entered the practice room, and Zardeth and Jesse’s succubus appeared from invisibility. When the succubus saw Molofeel appear beside Jesse, she stared straight at them.
"Nice to see you again," Molofeel said. "I still don’t know your name."
"Sorrel," the succubus replied, "Miss Molofeel…"
"Please don’t call my name, Miss Sorrel," Molofeel said, "It makes me uncomfortable."
Jesse touched her neck and said, "We’re here to deal with a Felhunter, Molofeel, she’s not our enemy."
"As long as she’s not staring at you," Molofeel smiled.
Zardeth said, "I believe Sorrel is not staring at Jesse, she’s worried about you."
"Forget it," Molofeel said, "It’s too hard for her to resist her master’s charm anyway."
Sorrel said coldly, "No matter what, I am only loyal to one master, that is Lord Zardeth."
Molofeel scoffed, Jesse coughed and tried to steer the conversation back on track.
"So, Ursula, how familiar are you with your spells?"
"This isn’t the hardest step for me," said Ursula. "But I think I’m ready, Soulstone, summoning spell. And the inscription spell, I think I’m pretty familiar with it."
"Ursula, I knew you would catch on quickly," Zardeth said. "Just trust to complete the summoning boldly. There are so many companions here to help you, plus two demon partners to assist, you will be fine."
Ursula softly "hmmed" and stepped into the middle of the practice room.
The practice room had never seen so many people before, especially with a few demons added. But Ursula was still quite nervous, after all, the summoned creature was a beast that no one had ever dealt with before.
She set aside the paper, took out a bottle of dimly glowing and murky liquid from her pocket, and drank it.
After a moment, she closed her eyes and loudly chanted, "Moana, Soga, Tolcridore, Rokrini."
She chanted very accurately and skillfully, her spellcasting gestures were exactly as recorded by Mor’zul. Jesse knew she would succeed on her first attempt.
As expected, when she finished the last incantation, and gently lowered her hand, the illuminating brazier dimmed briefly. The air among the crowd seemed to tear apart as black mist appeared, and a hellhound emerged with a sound of "hoo hoo" from the dark. The eyeless, noseless, grey-white head of the beast emerged, as if giving birth to a newborn creature out of nothingness. It landed on the ground, rose up and howled towards its surroundings.
This Felhunter was nearly as big as a large dog, not as absurdly monstrous as the fat pig-like creature Jesse summoned from Mor’zul, but close to the one summoned by Mor’zul.
When the Felhunter realized Ursula was its summoner, its tentacles shook. Ursula was about to say the naming spell, but she was startled by its sudden screech.
The Felhunter leaped towards Ursula, but before its tentacles could wrap around her, Molofeel quickly grabbed them at a faster speed. Ursula’s tail swiftly wrapped around the Felhunter’s head, and with a strong pull from her hands and tail, the Felhunter tumbled to the side, rolling several times.
"Ho-ek…"
Erlan tried to use a fear spell on the Felhunter, but as he was halfway through, the demon that had just gotten up let out an even sharper cry towards him. Erlan’s eyes rolled back as he leaned against the wall, nearly passing out from the deafening sound.
"How dare you attack my master!" Erlan’s imp, Gelkik, angrily screeched, starting to conjure a ball of fire with his hands, but the Felhunter swallowed it whole in one gulp!
"Stop casting spells, you fool!" Molofeel shouted, and Zardeth, who seemed about to cast a spell too, hesitated at the shout.
Jesse stood by Ursula’s side, finding it not difficult to take down a Felhunter, but he had no experience in trying to control one.
Another succubus reacted quickly, whipping out her long whip and entangling the Felhunter that was attempting to attack Molofeel again with its long tail. Jesse shouted, "Now, cast the spell, Ursula, let it know its name!"
Ursula nodded and immediately chanted the naming spell.
After the spell was completed, the Felhound seemed to be grabbed by something in its head, curled into a ball struggling. It even vomited out the imp, and after a while of struggling, it finally calmed down.
Sorrel retrieved the long whip, and when the Felhound broke free again, it did not attack Ursula once more.
"Is it… obeying me now?" Ursula looked at Zardeth and Jesse asked.
"If the spell worked, it should be obedient now," Jesse said. "It says here, after this step is completed, the Felhunter will obey its new master, try giving it a command."
"Come to me," Ursula said to the hound.
However, the Felhound showed no reaction at all. Even though it no longer had any hostility towards Ursula, it still felt wary of the others around, constantly looking around.
"Try saying it with me, Miss Ursula," Molofeel spoke in Demonic, "Follow me by my side."
Jesse almost understood, but the others were still confused.
"What kind of spell is this?" Ursula asked.
"No, this is Eredun, also known as Demonic," Molofeel said. "Say this to that dog over there."
Ursula nodded and repeated what Molofeel had just said. The Felhound seemed to suddenly wake up and looked over this way, then obediently came to Ursula’s side.
"It really works!" Surena exclaimed. "Do we really need to summon such a Felhound… and learn a whole set of Demonic as well?"
"Actually, to become a qualified shadow warlock, one should learn Demonic," Zardeth said. "Next, everyone will need to learn this new language, Surena."
Hearing Zardeth’s words, Jesse thought he should contribute his set of Demonic materials to help everyone progress together.
