Chapter 383: The Demon Researcher

The next day, Jesse left when the sky was turning red, as agreed. He arrived at the alley and carefully looked around to make sure there were no demons waiting to ambush him.

Coming to such a place at this time was undoubtedly dangerous, but dealing with a group of warlocks, especially wanting to meet Mor’zul, a secretive demonologist, without taking risks was impossible.

He could only be as cautious as possible.

Finding the same house as before, he approached and said, "I’m here."

However, there was no response.

Jesse looked at both paths beside him, wondering if they were planning something secretive.

He didn’t want any casualties in Moonbrook, but still gripped his dagger tightly, prepared to act in case of danger.

It was getting late, and although it wasn’t completely dark yet, the streets on both sides were too dim to see clearly.

The crooked shadows of the buildings reminded Jesse of the day he chased the incubus, entering the filthiest part of Old Town.

The strange animal carcass, in the fading twilight, seemed like it could rise up and bite him at any moment. He decided to leave the area, as it was clear that he was expected in the afternoon, but for some unknown reason, the other party didn’t show up.

Perhaps the woman who claimed to be a "Demonologist" thought it wasn’t appropriate to meet like that, so she changed her mind at the last minute, either that or she had some other malicious intentions.

Jesse didn’t want to wait any longer, so he retraced his steps back but suddenly felt that something was off.

Focusing his attention, he looked around, and noticed a short shadow slowly approaching from behind.

He looked away from his Demon Detection view and carefully saw a dark thing crawling on the ground with his naked eyes.

It walked carefully, but its body swayed as it moved, making sounds like "cough, cough," as if rubbing with its rough teeth or making choking noises from the throat.

When it was about five or six meters away from Jesse, it stopped walking, made a hissing sound like a threat, and then opened its bloody mouth.

The monster had no eyes, with many sharp teeth in its mouth, black whiskers on its head and chin, two curved bone horns on its shoulders, and black hairy long tentacles on its back, with some sharp spikes pointing towards this side at the tips of the tentacles.

The skin covered with fur, whiskers, and tentacles appeared dark red under the moonlight, with short and thick red hairy legs with black hair, each step it took revealing a huge thick nail holding the ground.

This is a "Felhunter."

Although Jesse had never seen this type of demon before, its appearance was very similar to the one in the game.

Despite being called a hound, it looked nothing like a dog, more like a freakish giant rat covered in spikes and tentacles.

The demon didn’t attack immediately, but instead studied Jesse, perhaps assessing his strength or preparing for an attack.

The Felhunter is a demon servant trained by the Pit Lords to help fat and powerful warlocks track the source of Arcane energy in the universe to satisfy the warlocks’ endless hunger.

As a result, this demon is very good at tracking and hunting spellcasters. If it decides to attack, Jesse would have to use spells against it, which would basically be asking for trouble.

Not to mention spellcasters like Jesse, even Eredar Wizards fear their defensive capabilities.

The warlock in this town keeps such a creature to deal with any mages who might come here to investigate. It couldn’t be more suitable.

These monsters devour the magic power of gifted individuals until they are completely drained, causing them to faint or even suffer permanent mental damage.

But Jesse is not just a spellcaster. He stepped back, holding the handle of a dagger, while the Felhunter took a step forward, its tentacles growing longer from behind, as if unwilling to let him go.

"Whoever released this demon can show themselves now."

He spoke to the surroundings, but no one responded.

"If that’s the case, I won’t be polite." His voice lowered.

Still no response.

Jesse watched the Felhunter, looking at its raised and swaying tentacles on its back. He suddenly reached out and used Gorefiend’s Grasp to pull off a few. The Felhunter was completely caught off guard and let out a strange cry as its whole body was dragged towards Jesse by half a meter.

Its four thick legs struggled to climb up, its giant mouth opened towards Jesse as it ran fiercely to bite. Jesse easily dodged it and the hound released its last tentacle aiming at Jesse, but he caught it barehanded.

The sharp thorns at the end of the tentacle suddenly unfolded, like a flower of flesh and blood revealing its suckers inside. Jesse immediately felt as if his mind was being pulled by something.

"Stop…"

Jesse had already drawn his dagger when a man on the other side of the door shouted.

"Don’t kill it," the man said. "Leave it, Kil’jaeden."

Upon hearing this, the Felhunter immediately stopped its attack, desperately trying to move away. Jesse let go and allowed it to escape into the shadows. If that man had appeared one second later, Jesse would have cut off the last tentacle.

Jesse glanced at the wound caused by the hound’s spiky tentacle on his hand and said, "The deal is off, sir. I understand your intention, you wanted me to see what a real Felhunter looks like to prove your knowledge and ability to me, but I do not like this method."

"You’re not here for a trade, are you?" said the figure from afar.

Jesse looked over and asked, "Who are you?"

The man walked over unsteadily, with his clumsy steps and posture resembling a zombie.

He wore a tattered white shirt and loose linen grey pants, unable to hide his skinny figure.

Approaching, Jesse noticed his sunken cheeks, prominent cheekbones, and messy stubble on his face.

The man brushed the long hair covering one eye, stared at Jesse intently, and said, "Just call me Mor’zul. I dare say, in all of Moonbrook, even the entire Kingdom of Stormwind, you won’t find anyone more qualified to be called a Demonologist than me."

Jesse asked, "So, you summoned that Felhunter earlier?"

The man nodded, "Certainly. I am the only summoner in this town who can tame a Felhunter. And believe me, Felhunter is not the most powerful summoning for me."

Jesse wanted to ask what the strongest summoning he could do was, but thought the man wouldn’t want to reveal too much, so he stayed quiet.

"Can you teach me to summon this kind of demon?" he asked.

"Of course," the man said, "but not everyone can master this type of summoning magic. I can see that you are already on this path. The abilities you used when dealing with my Felhunter just now were unlike anything I have ever seen before."

"Since you understand this path, you should know that everything comes with a price. I can teach you to summon demons, but you must give me something in return."

Hearing the word "path," Jesse remembered Gakin’s obsession with the dark arts path. These two really got along well.

"Of course, I’m not looking to take anything from you for free, Mor’zul," Jesse said. "But the magic I just used, I’m afraid I can’t offer that as a trade."

"I understand," Mor’zul said. "But I believe you definitely have something to offer me, and I am in great need of a capable partner right now."
