Chapter 378: The Primary Work Must Go On
The next morning, Jesse went to Malin’s study. The door was open, and when he pushed it, he saw Malin talking to an apprentice inside.
"Mr. Seso, you have returned just in time," Malin said to the apprentice, who looked about fifteen or sixteen, "You can go to class now, Mr. Magelt."
"Yes, master," the apprentice bowed to Malin and left the room. Malin sat behind the desk, pulling out a stack of papers from a drawer, "I have a document to deliver to Moonbrook. The school in Moonbrook was just rebuilt this year. The mayor there has chosen a few children who may have magical talents to send to the Wizard’s Sanctum to investigate. Master Andromath assigned me this task, and this is the reply from the Wizard’s Sanctum."
"I had intended for Mr. Magelt to go, but you know the road from here to Moonbrook is not very safe. I am a bit concerned for the child’s safety. If you go, I will feel much more at ease. And since the king gave you that horse, you haven’t had a chance to take her out for a ride, have you?"
"No problem, master," Jesse took the document from Malin and asked, "When should I deliver this?"
Malin replied, "Today is the 22nd. I think it should be delivered before June. The mayor wants the children to be ready before the Harvest Festival. I believe three months should be enough time."
"You just returned from Menethil Harbor, right? Take a few days to rest. There is no need to rush," Malin said.
Jesse said, "I should depart as soon as possible, master. After all, those children are so young, leaving home to travel to Stormwind alone. They will need time to adapt."
"It reminds you of yourself, doesn’t it?" Malin smiled.
Jesse nodded and asked, "By the way, where’s Amy? I didn’t see her this morning."
"She went to Nethergarde," Malin said, pushing the drawer back in. "It’s been two weeks since she left."
"Is the situation at the Dark Portal getting complicated?" Jesse asked.
Malin replied, "There’s no urgent news for now, but she insisted on going. Nethergarde needed more help, and Andromath agreed to her request. The progress of the expedition seems to be going smoothly. After breaking through the Horde’s defense at the Dark Portal, they haven’t faced much resistance along the way. However, as the army advances further, the logistics are becoming tighter."
"The expedition is mainly led by Lordaeron, I just have some superficial knowledge," the old mage said, tapping the table with his finger. "I have been wondering about something. Did you happen to meet Master Morganth and his group in Menethil Harbor?"
"No, but I met a mage from the Kirin Tor," Jesse said. "He was also tracking our progress. He told me about many Orcs lurking in the mountains of Khaz Modan, waiting to reclaim Dun Algaz and cut off the connection between Ironforge and Menethil Harbor."
"The Kirin Tor has always been concerned about this, those Orcs might be members of the Dragonmaw clan," Malin said, twirling the feather pen in his hand. "King Varian is now very worried about the possibility of the Blackrock Orcs and Dragonmaw clan uniting, giving them a chance to invade the south again."
"The Red Dragon… the Black Dragon…" the old mage sighed deeply. "Looking at it now, it may be even more troublesome than the Dark Portal."
"How is your Counterspell practice going?"
"Huh?" Jesse paused before saying, "Got no results…"
Malin said, "I think you should practice with a mage who is at a similar level. Don’t interrupt their spells, start by getting a feel for it in a normal state. Because this kind of magic can be quite dangerous."
Jesse admitted, "I don’t know any mages well in the Mage Quarter. Amy has gone to Nethergarde."
"Make more friends, Jesse," Malin said as she stood up. "I have to go to class now. If you have nothing to do, help me make some tea. I’ll be back later to drink it warm."
"By the way, Master, is there a chance for me to go to Nethergarde?" Jesse asked.
Malin glanced back while holding the door, saying, "Are you trying to escape your work here by going to Nethergarde, Mr Seso? Forget about it. You first help me with the issues in Redridge."
"Understood, Master."
After Malin left, Jesse thought about practicing counterspells. Since there were no other mages around, he could only practice with those two demons.
The imp should be good. That guy can cast Firebolt. Coming out of Malin’s study, Jesse took the small vial of spores from Ursula to The Need of Alchemists. Upon entering, he placed the vial on the table.
When Ruth Lumere, the boss, heard a customer, she came out from the back and curiously looked at the bottle, saying, "Mire Beast spores?"
"Can you help me grow it big, boss?" Jesse asked, leaning on the counter.
"To grow it big… might harm my whole garden," Lumere shook her head.
"I don’t need to grow it into a giant Mire Beast in the wetlands," Jesse said. "I need a water-scarce shrub beast that thrives in arid regions."
Lumere looked at Jesse, then at the jar, saying, "Are you sure you can grow that thing?"
"A Herbalist from Thelsamar told me it’s possible," Jesse said.
"I’ve heard of methods to cultivate different Mire Beasts in different environments," she said. "Are you a mage from the Wizard’s Sanctum? Show me your ring, if it’s part of a research project, I can help you."
Jesse handed her the ring to look at, Lumere squinted and asked, "You’re Seso… Jesse Seso?"
"Yes," Jesse said. "I’ve sold herbs to you a few times before, ma’am."
Lumere came closer and asked, "I heard you killed a Death Knight from a tribe, is that true or false?"
"It’s true," Jesse said, "in Dalaran."
"No," Lumere said, "I heard it was in Redridge… with the leader of the Alliance, Lady Alleria Windrunner’s sister, um… what’s her name, that elf lady."
"Vereesa, mom! It’s Vereesa Windrunner!"
Not far from the room’s doorway, Lumere’s daughter Maria walked by carrying a small box, looked over and suddenly saw Jesse, her expression changed immediately.
"Jesse Seso? Is that you? So it’s you here! Oh my, I actually met the mage who killed Teron Gorefiend!"
"You killed the Death Knight Teron Gorefiend?" Ruth looked surprised at her daughter and said, "You didn’t mention it was that… guy."
"I heard it from Uncle Cart, he told me that not many people in Stormwind Keep know the whole story." Maria said.
"I guess it’s because there are still many Horde wanderers hiding in the corners of the Kingdom of Stormwind, ladies." Jesse explained, "The king doesn’t want too much publicity, to avoid revenge. And I only participated in the hunt, please don’t put all the credit for killing that monster on me."
"You are too humble, sir," Maria said. "If it were me, I would faint at the sight of that guy. I heard his warhorse is an immortal monster."
Ruth said, "Mr. Seso, don’t worry. I’ll keep this spore with me and write to my colleague in Dalaran to help me figure out how to cultivate a treant."
"Thank you so much, boss," Jesse said. "I’m counting on you."
