Chapter 377: The Alchemy Family
At night, Jesse carried a bundle containing bottles and went to the basement of The Slaughtered Lamb. Surena was sitting in the hall drinking, and when she saw Jesse, she lazily greeted him and asked, squinting, "Back, Jesse?"
"How’s Zardeth, is he getting along well with that succubus?" Jesse asked.
"Of course, he’s doing fine," Surena smiled and said, "I’ve only seen him once or twice in the past two weeks. It’s quite heartless. Erlan has been wanting to see him, getting desperate, and even tried to summon a succubus…"
"He summoned a succubus, aren’t you angry?" Jesse asked.
Surena laughed even more happily and asked, "Why should I be jealous of a demon servant?"
Jesse asked, "So, did Erlan successfully summon an Imp?"
"No," Surena said, "but Ursula did."
"Really?" Jesse asked, "She summoned an imp?"
"Yes," Surena nodded and said, "Summoning that demon is for the same tasks, helping her with herbs, making potions, keeping time. It’s really hard work…"
After saying goodbye to Surena, Jesse walked into the passage of the Alchemy Room. Before reaching the place, he already felt the steam with a medicinal smell drifting in.
"Ursula," he looked at the female alchemist’s back, holding a glass bottle, and said, "Look at what I brought you."
Ursula turned around, supporting her waist and asked, out of breath, "When did you come back?"
"Around afternoon," Jesse placed the bottle on the nearby table and said, "I came to find you immediately upon arrival."
"What is this?" asked Ursula curiously, leaning in to take a closer look. "Didn’t you say you were going to help me get a Mire Beast organ?… Oh my, could this be Mire Beast spores?"
"What’s wrong?" Jesse asked.
"I can’t take care of it…" Ursula examined the bottle and said, "My little Alchemy Room definitely can’t grow this thing."
"Then I’ll have to go ask The Need of Alchemists about it," Jesse said.
"You mean the mother-daughter duo there?"
"Yes."
"Hmm, yeah, their alchemy room is quite big. I heard they even have a garden behind the shop, maybe they can help us grow one," Ursula said.
Jesse took out the stone wrapped in cloth and said, "Look at this thing."
"Elemental Stone?" Ursula widened her eyes. "How much did you buy it for?"
"We defeated some earth element monsters we found, without spending any money."
Ursula said in surprise, "Jesse, I can’t imagine what you’ve experienced on this journey. I’ve only seen earth element things in books, and you actually defeated a few yourself?"
"You underestimate my strength," Jesse chuckled. "Keep it, Ursula. Last time, I drank half of your Restorative Potion. I know that an Elemental Stone can only produce Elemental Earth that can’t match a full bottle."
"Getting so generous all of a sudden?" Ursula took the bundle and placed it on the counter. "You don’t have any other requests, do you?"
"I’d be happy with a few coins," Jesse said.
"Where would I get a few coins…" Ursula patted the bundle. "But, the Restorative Potion I said is a gift for you, it’s a gift for you. It’s a rare opportunity to use such a beautiful Elemental Stone to create Elemental Earth. I won’t keep your things for myself. Let’s see… come back to me in two days, and I’ll give you the crafted Elemental Earth."
"Since you put it that way," Jesse said, "I’ll be waiting for your good news."
"No problem," Ursula said. "Oh, come over here and take a look, Jesse."
"What!?"
"Look at my new creation!"
Ursula brought Jesse to the pharmacy and saw an imp busily carrying herbal bags around. Jesse nodded and said, "Is this the imp you summoned?"
"Ah, did Surena tell you about it?" Ursula said slightly disappointed. "What do you think of this little fellow?"
"Is it obedient?" Jesse asked.
Ursula replied, "Very obedient, though it may complain sometimes. I now understand why Gakin kept urging me to learn how to summon an imp quickly. With its help, I can focus more on studying and potion-making instead of spending too much time in the warehouse…"
"Weren’t you worried before that the imp might burn your herbs?" Jesse inquired.
Ursula looked at the imp and said, "I’ve trained it to be careful, and so far, it hasn’t caused any trouble."
The Alchemist remained silent for a moment before saying, "My father used to want to summon an Elven Wisp like this to help him organize the warehouse. I suppose he was actually referring to an imp."
Jesse asked, "Was your father an Alchemist too?"
"It should be said, it’s obvious," Ursula said, "Not only my father, but also my grandfather."
"Are they also from Lordaeron?" Jesse asked curiously.
"No," Ursula’s expression suddenly became serious, she looked at the busy imp up and down, and said, "Actually, none of my family are from Lordaeron. Neither my grandfather, nor me and my father, have ever been accepted by Lordaeron, we can only be considered to have lived there."
"Because they are all half-elves."
"What?"
"Are you surprised?"
"I just heard that it seems difficult for half-elves to have offspring…"
"Most half-elves are unwilling to marry and have children, they are conflicted about their heritage," Ursula explained, "Indeed, like elves, half-elves find it hard to have children, but trying a few times over a lifespan of two or three hundred years, there will eventually be results, isn’t that right?"
She flipped her red long hair and revealed her ears, saying, "Look, even though my mother and grandmother are human, my ears are still a bit different."
I have to admit, Ursula’s ears are indeed a bit higher than usual human ears, and slightly pointed. But her appearance, eyes, and so on, it’s hard to tell she has a bit of elf blood if you don’t mention it.
"Do other people know about this?" Jesse asked.
"I never said," Ursula said. "But I think Zardeth can tell, but he doesn’t care. So I feel comfortable here, unlike in Lordaeron, where many people can even tell from the nail clippings you discard that you have elf blood in you. After my father passed away, I couldn’t stand that place anymore."
"I’m from Lordaeron too," Jesse said. "But I can’t tell at all."
"Of course, I know you’re from Lordaeron," Ursula said. "Because I also know not every Lordaeron person looks the same, just like not every half-elf is a thief, robber, or murderer."
After saying that, she glanced over and said, "You wouldn’t have any prejudice against me just because my ears are a bit pointed, right?"
Jesse said, "Maybe, if you’re a half-elf, you should be better at using Arcane, right? Or live a bit longer than others?"
"You’re curious about that," Ursula couldn’t help laughing and said, "Those benefits have long been lost through generations, only the bad reputation remains."
