Chapter 370: Strange Stones

Arriving at the corner of the passage, as Daggett had said, there was a horrifying cave fissure here, as if something had forcefully dug it open, with claw marks all over the walls.

Greed led the way, with Jesse and Daggett following close behind, the three of them entered. In the game, this was the hiding place of three dwarf mercenaries who were musketeers. They didn’t know how long they had been hiding here, but it definitely couldn’t have been for just a few years.

And if there were three Bronzebeard hiding inside, those Rockjaw Trogg would probably have already found a way to block up this entrance instead of leaving it alone.

As Jesse walked further in, he could already hear the strange muttering of the Rockjaw Trogg inside.

Daggett kept looking ahead, almost trying to pass by Greed in the front. Whatever was inside seemed important to him, even after leaving for so long, he couldn’t help but come back to take another look.

Walking to the end of the winding passage, Jesse saw a Rockjaw Trogg facing away from him at the bright opening ahead, looking into the cave.

Gripping the hammer in his hand, Greed watched Jesse make a motion to go back. Jesse immediately understood what he meant.

Jesse reached out, a burst of blood-red magical energy instantly grabbed the Rockjaw Trogg. The monster was even pulled over without making a sound. Greed abruptly struck it hard on its back, cracking as it slammed against the wall, sliding down limply.

After a moment of silence inside, not long after, the sound of footsteps approached. A Rockjaw Trogg poked its head inside, and Greed directly threw a hammer at and smashed its skull.

The place erupted into chaos. Several Rockjaw Trogg clamored noisily. Greed charged in and swung his hammer to knock down a Rockjaw Trogg beside the cave. Jesse followed, raising his magic wand to topple a Rockjaw Trogg charging towards him. Just as a ragged Rockjaw Trogg with a stick in hand started babbling at Jesse.

Jesse shouted "Scorch Curse" at him, causing a loud explosion right in front of the Rockjaw Trogg Shaman. The Shaman howled and took a few steps back, but was unharmed.

Jesse saw a strange little totem made of bones and wood next to him suddenly being engulfed in flames and shadows, burning to powder and disappearing in a cloud of smoke.

What on earth is this… a Rooted Totem?

In the game, a Rooted Totem is a very fragile little thing that can absorb one spell attack. Jesse never expected to encounter this in front of the Rockjaw Trogg Shaman!

Just as Jesse tried to attack again with Scorch Curse, the Shaman had already hidden in a trench.

"There’s the Shaman, Greed!"

"Got it!" Greed punched the Rockjaw Trogg holding a hammer in its right hand, knocking its face askew, then smashed its skull with a blow and chased after the Shaman.

Daggett pulled a dagger out of the forehead of a Rockjaw Trogg, then jumped into the ditch with Jesse and followed Greed. Greed was ahead, supporting the narrow trench all the way forward, but suddenly saw a flash ahead!

A surge of electricity rushed along the earthen wall, frightening Greed into immediately letting go of the wall he was holding onto. Jesse also quickly stuck to the other side, watching as the electric current shattered the wall in front of their eyes.

"Nature Protection Potion."

Jesse walked towards Daggett and told him something, then drank some water and continued walking ahead.

"Ha!"

Greed roared and raised his electric hammer to strike down. Lightning illuminated the things inside the trench, while the Rockjaw Trogg Shaman summoned a thunderstorm. The electric currents clashed, causing Greed to be pushed back a step!

"How dare you challenge me in my territory?!"

While Rockjaw Trogg shouted, he sent a lightning bolt towards Greed. The lightning exploded in the tight space, bouncing and bursting back and forth, disorienting Greed. Although Greed dodged the first strike, he was hit several times by the consecutive lightning strikes, coughing as he moved aside.

The two quickly drank healing potions and recovered. Taking advantage of the moment, the Shaman pulled out a bone stick from his back and inserted it into the wall while chanting, creating another totem!

Even though Jesse didn’t know what the totem was, he decided to destroy it. He used Gorefiend’s Grasp to grab the stick and tear it apart mid-air.

Seeing the totem destroyed, the Shaman immediately cast a spell. Jesse intended to quickly use Scorch Curse to blow up its head, but the entire pit started to shake. Jesse felt the ground beneath him give way, with one of his legs slipping into a crack!

"Watch out!" Daggett grabbed him, holding onto a rock. Jesse steadied himself on the nearby ground, pointed at the Shaman, and cast Scorch Curse. A black flame instantly smashed half of its body, stopping the ground from shaking.

"Greed!"

Jesse pulled his foot out of the pit, walked over to Greed, who was coughing and sitting up, brushing off the sand. "This guy can even summon lightning shields to protect himself! How can he know everything…"

"Did you drink Nature Protection Potion?" Jesse asked.

"The situation was so urgent just now, where could I find time…" Greed said, feeling his body and clothes covered in charred marks, before finally taking out the bottle of potion.

"Take a sip of Healing Potion." Jesse handed Greed the potion. "Hurry."

Greed nodded, drank it, took a breath, and Jesse looked over to Daggett, who had already run ahead to search for the Rockjaw Trogg Shaman’s body.

"Daggett?"

"I know, it must be on its body!" Daggett whispered.

"What exactly is it?" Greed hobbled over and asked.

Daggett didn’t reply, just kept searching, after a while, he took out a necklace from a piece of flesh burned by shadows beside him.

"This is it…" Daggett whispered, handing it to Greed, asking, "Do you think this thing… looks nice, Wildhammer brothers?"

Greed frowned impatiently, but when he saw what Daggett was holding, his expression relaxed, raising his eyebrows, he said, "Indeed… quite pretty."

"What’s this." Jesse curiously leaned over and saw the strange object in Daggett’s hand.

It was a stone carved with a detailed woman’s face, a pretty dark stone, made into a necklace.

If one were to say how beautiful this woman was… Jesse could only say, it somewhat matched a human’s sense of beauty, but why would a Bronzebeard Dwarf like this thing so much, was it his wife?

Just with one glance, Jesse couldn’t help but look again. Wait, this stone contained quite strong Shadow Power, realizing this, he suddenly became alert.

Could the shadow power in this stone have been pulling at Daggett’s heart, making him unable to forget for over a decade, needing to come here to resolve his feelings?

"Finally back in my hands." Daggett said softly, "This is mine… no one can take it away."

"If it’s really that important, the Rockjaw Trogg outside might come to steal it, Daggett," Jesse said. "We must leave this cave quickly, before they become curious about what’s happening here."

Daggett nodded and said, "Yes, you’re right. My goal is accomplished now, Greed. I will take you inside."

Greed stared at Jesse and glanced sideways at Daggett.

Jesse knew that Greed also felt that something was not quite right.
