Chapter 362: Bronzebeard’s BBQ
When they returned to the inn, Greed was still sleeping.
But it wasn’t surprising, as he was always fond of sleeping. After staying up all night yesterday, today he would need to catch up.
Jesse sat at the table, took out his imp-translated Demonic dictionary, and continued studying until Greed woke up in the evening.
"What time is it now, Jesse," he looked over.
"On May 2nd, at 9 o’clock in the evening."
Jesse glanced at his pocket watch and thought that the Gnomishmage Amy knew was quite skilled. The watch had been repaired after enduring several black dragon bombings.
"How about going out for dinner?" Greed said. "Let’s have a meal together."
Jesse had been studying since the afternoon and was starting to feel a bit hungry. He nodded since he hadn’t eaten anything after waking up.
The two walked out of the stone house and entered the tavern hall, where the aroma of roasted meat filled the entire room.
"I’d like to try the beer-braised wild boar ribs," Jesse requested.
"No problem," Greed told the landlady. "Also, two more bear meat skewers with onions, apple slices, cabbage, and extra honey!"
"Can all those ingredients fit on one skewer?" Jesse couldn’t help but ask.
"Why not," Greed said, gesturing. "The skewer is longer than your arm."
Hearing Greed say this, Jesse swallowed nervously, the mention of it making his mouth water.
"Will it be very expensive?"
"Put it on my tab!" Greed replied immediately.
"Let’s not drink tonight, Greed," Jesse said. "We have to leave early tomorrow morning for a trip to the Ironband Excavation Site."
"Ironband Excavation Site?" Greed asked. "What are you going to do there?"
"I found out today that there are Ironforge adventurers who participated in exploring that ruins site. They seem to know the layout of the ruins in the wilderness," Jesse explained. "We are planning to sneak in. Don’t you want to know what to expect inside beforehand?"
"Is that so?" Greed pursed his lips. "Then make it two glasses of fruit wine, not too strong, Jesse. It’s not as strong as beer, just think of it as drinking juice, okay?"
"Okay," Jesse nodded.
"Two glasses of apple wine, please, barkeep!" Greed called out, and soon the landlady brought over the drinks.
Jesse lifted his cup and asked, "How long will it take to get to the Ironband Excavation Site?"
"If we walk along the lake, we should arrive by the afternoon," Greed replied.
Jesse took a sip of apple cider, wrinkled his brow, and said, "Hmm… This is strong! I thought you said it’s not as strong as beer?"
The dwarf tapped his cup lightly and said, "This is much milder compared to Dark Iron beer."
"Oh…" Jesse sighed.
Greed looked at Jesse with innocent eyes and said, "You’ve already ordered, so you have to pay later, Jesse Seso. It would be a waste if you don’t finish it. I can’t drink two cups anyway."
Jesse reluctantly nodded and took another sip, saying, "You have to wake me up earlier tomorrow, not like just now."
"No problem," Greed replied.
At that moment, the innkeeper placed a plate of roasted wild boar ribs on the table. The oil glistened on the surface of the ribs under the light from the fire, and the broth underneath was bubbling and sizzling.
A sweet smell of wine wafted from the meat, Jesse couldn’t resist dipping his finger in the broth and licking it, a strong scent of barley rushed into his nose.
He couldn’t help but pick up his fork to dig into the meat, the fatty chunks of meat trembled like jelly as they easily came off the bone and melted in his mouth… The hearty meat strands mixed with the smooth oil made Jesse close his eyes and savor the flavors in his mouth.
The wild boar meat caught in the Burning Steppes had a strong foul smell, but the wild boars here seemed not much different from domestic pigs, perhaps the effect of dwarf beer was at play here.
It was only when he chewed thoroughly that he could smell a hint of the pork’s odor, but by then, it was more like adding a hint of flavor to the whole dish, rather than something negative.
For Jesse, it was difficult to judge the cooking level accurately because he didn’t know how to fry or bake, he didn’t know where the "goodness" was.
But at least it felt particularly appropriate to him, and he had never eaten better fried meat before.
"I have to say, Greed." Jesse picked up a piece of lean meat soaked in broth and put it in his mouth, chewing twice, "This barbecue is just as good as Aerie Peak, next time I should try your food there again without getting drunk first."
"I don’t know when I’ll be able to go back again." Greed muttered, holding a wine glass.
At this moment, the boss brought up two skewers of bear meat on twigs, steam rising continuously from the skewers, making Jesse lick his lips.
The pieces of meat on the bear kebab were not many compared to the other ingredients, and they tasted very tough and solid, like overcooked beef. Even though they looked well-cooked, there was a strong bloody smell.
Yet, with the combination of this smell, honey, and a special sour and salty sauce, the fruits and vegetables on the kebab were smoked to an exceptionally delicious flavor, even helping to relieve the greasiness of the large ribs eaten just now.
After finishing this giant kebab, although already full, Jesse still wanted to eat something else, like soup… I wonder if the dwarves in Thelsamar have delicious soups?
But he also knew that if he kept eating, he would probably be too full to sleep at night. He had only gotten up in the afternoon, so he better take it easy.
So, after taking a sip of fruit wine to rinse his mouth, Jesse leaned back on the chair, contentedly watching Greed clean the bones.
Curious if there were any other delicacies in Thelsamar… But what he had eaten from morning till night had already made him quite satisfied.
Not to mention various specialty sheep milk products, bread, and a variety of desserts, most of which he hadn’t tried yet.
Thinking about soon facing Dark Iron Dwarves, and even Rockjaw Troggs in Uldaman, he actually didn’t have the mood to appreciate fine dining.
However, these two hearty meals would be helpful for dealing with more troubles ahead.
"Are there any Troggs or Kobolds invading Ironband Excavation Site, Greed?" Jesse asked across the table.
"I haven’t heard of any," Greed replied. "But Ironband Excavation Site is also protected by Ironforge soldiers, Jesse. I don’t think it’s completely safe there."
They bought some supplies in the evening, cleaned the muddy stains on their clothes from the swamp, dried them by the fire, and were ready to set off for Ironband Excavation Site the next morning.
