Chapter 360: Thelsamar
The west bank of Loch Lake is a peaceful place, not as full of monsters waiting to attack you like in a swamp.
Following the road from Dun Algaz, the two of them hurried all night and as the morning light broke, they saw a series of stone houses in the distance.
Thelsamar, this dwarf town is maybe not as famous as Ironforge, but more popular than Aerie Peak, Shadowforge City, Kharanos, Danbadar, and other places in the whole alliance.
It’s not just because of the Thelsamar blood battle that happened here a few years ago, but also because of the famous Thelsamar blood sausage made from bear intestines!
"We finally arrived," Greed said. "I really hope this trip is just for sightseeing, not to search for ancient relics in the southern desert. Then we can relax here for a few days and taste all the delicious food of the Bronzebeard Dwarfs!"
"As the food capital of Khaz Modan, it has been like this since the days when the Dark Iron and Wildhammer clans still lived here! They used to say King Anvilmar would wake up in Ironforge, have a full meal in Thelsamar at noon, drink in Kharanos at night, and get carried back to Ironforge in the middle of the night! Today, at least you can enjoy a quarter of the kingly lifestyle, right?"
"Have you experienced the full set when you were here last time?" Jesse asked.
Greed waved his hand and said, "Ha, I woke up in Ironforge in the morning and only arrived in Thelsamar by evening! Not to mention going back to Kharanos…"
Following the dwarfs’ footsteps to a high hill, Jesse leaned against a pine tree, fighting off sleepiness and gazing into the distance.
Below the hill, the sparkling Loch Lake shone brightly in the morning sunlight, making people feel happy.
With the cool lake breeze in their faces, the dwarfs exchanged greetings with each other.
Compared to the snowy mountains of Dun Morogh, the barren southern desert, muddy wetlands, Loch Modan is indeed a good place to settle down.
"Stop! You there!"
A dwarf wearing a blue mountaineer cloak shouted towards them.
Jesse was startled by his rough voice, thinking he had done something wrong.
The dwarf looked at Jesse and asked, "Did you see any Kobolds coming from the north?"
"No, sir," Jesse replied.
"You’re lucky. Head to Thelsamar, human!" the dwarf said sternly. "Hurry up! Have some good food, get a good rest!"
Greed nodded at the Bronzebeard Dwarf, speaking Dwarven language. The dwarf laughed and gestured, saying, "Go in, human, follow this tall mountain dwarf! You can taste Canberra!"
"Canberra?" Jesse glanced at Greed.
Greed smiled and said, "One kind of food that the people of Thelsamar really like, Jesse…"
"Sausages?" Jesse asked.
As soon as he heard ‘sausages’, the Bronzebeard Dwarf pointed eagerly and said, "Thelsamar has more than just sausages, tall friend, there are many good things in Thelsamar…"
Walking on the streets of Thelsamar, Jesse felt like all his previous impressions of Thelsamar had been completely washed away.
This was a bustling dwarf town, built beneath a rocky gorge, with most buildings partly above ground and partly below. Passing by what seemed like a small stone house, Jesse peeked through the window and discovered it was actually a two-story underground hall crowded with dwarves having breakfast together.
The Bronzebeard dwarves on the street were not as wary of humans as the Wildhammer dwarves, and most of them could speak some common language.
Greed led Jesse into an inconspicuous stone cave at the side of the road, and after passing through a narrow tunnel, they suddenly stepped into a bright open space – it was a tavern!
"We have more humans visiting, welcome! And visitors from Aerie Peak as well…" the female owner behind the counter shouted.
"Let me tell you, human, I smashed the skulls of four Orcs on the mountain road of Dun Algaz." A dwarf leaning against a stone column supporting the roof next to them raised three fingers and said, "I got four for sure, you probably haven’t killed as many Orcs as me, you’re too young, definitely."
"Definitely not, no…"
Jesse quickly said, wondering if this guy could get so drunk in the morning too?
"Don’t mind that drunkard." Greed took Jesse to the front and spoke to the female boss in Dwarven language.
The two arrived at an empty stone table next to the counter, Jesse squinted and said, "Oh my, Greed, I’m so sleepy, are you not tired?"
"It’s okay." Greed said, "I can’t wait, you must try this Canberra first."
Jesse rested his chin on his hand and asked, "It’s not some strange food that can affect my sleep, I just want to have a good night’s sleep now."
"I guarantee it won’t affect your sleep." Greed said, "I think it can even help you sleep better!"
Before long, the female boss brought a plate of plump white organs. Jesse looked at the rough surface and smelled a strong smell of lamb kidney.
The female boss also placed two cups of ale, Greed took a sip, and the two dwarves watched as Jesse wrinkled his brow and smelled the food, his face showing a look of anticipation.
The boss used a knife to cut open the full sheep stomach, and a hot, white, fluffy thing flowed out accompanied by a strong garlic smell. The visual effect was quite appetizing.
"Try this, Jesse!" Greed pointed to the plate of soft, sauce-like substance.
Jesse picked up a wooden spoon, scooped some into his mouth. Hmm, a faint fishy taste, garlic… a hint of chili pepper and a milky fragrance.
"Can you guess what this is?" the boss lady asked, leaning on the table.
"It’s sheep brain cooked with garlic and chili, fried in butter… it seems there’s also beer." Jesse licked his lips and said, "Of course, there are eggs too."
Greed listened to Jesse and looked at the lady boss, she nodded vigorously and said, "That’s pretty much it, human! I’m surprised there are humans willing to eat sheep brain here."
"Are you just exceedingly hungry?" she teased.
"Of course not," Jesse said, "I actually really like eating sheep brain…"
Greed nodded and said, "You never mentioned that before, Jesse."
"Both Lordaeron and Stormwind raise sheep…" Jesse reminded.
"The taste of sheep and goats is very different," the landlady said, though she looked quite happy.
She turned to the kitchen and shouted, "Give this young man a plate of authentic Thelsamar special blood sausage for free, I believe the recipe here has lost its touch long ago in Stormwind!"
The kitchen helper with a golden beard acknowledged, quickly bringing out a plate of what looked like bloody sausages, a strong bloody smell wafting from the dish even before it reached the table.
