Chapter 356: Flames in the Deep Waters
In the afternoon, Jesse and Greed spent the whole afternoon fishing at the pier. Greed caught plenty, including several blackmouth cod of different sizes and other small fish, but the highlight was a huge, about ten pounds heavy, fire-scale eel.
Although not as heavy as the fat rockfish or red snappers, this weight wasn’t anything special. However, fire-scale eels are rare, long and slender, making their poundage quite intimidating.
Plus, its whole body was bright red, shimmering in Greed’s arms like a pulsating flame. When this fish was hauled from the sea onto the pier, the sailors nearby couldn’t help but glance over.
Jesse didn’t catch anything all afternoon. Watching the shadows swimming in the water and the fish soaking in Greed’s basket, he even had the urge to use Gorefiend’s Grasp to pull one up.
But looking at the dock workers nearby, the strong instinct for survival overcame the strong desire to win.
If there were no one around in the wilderness, he wouldn’t worry so much.
When he got back to Deepwater Inn at night, it was much livelier than at noon. Jesse even saw two elves sitting in the corner talking softly and laughing, with cries and laughter coming and going.
Greed walked through the center of the tavern with his eel, causing a commotion. He confidently approached the boss and loudly demanded, "Hey boss, grill this eel and cut it for everyone to taste! And bring three more cups of Black Stone Beer!"
Amidst cheers, Greed returned to his seat. Jesse raised an eyebrow and asked, "Black Stone Beer, is it made by the Dark Iron Dwarves?"
"Yes," said Greed. "So what? Dark Iron Dwarves may kill, but their beer won’t. Just because it’s from enemies doesn’t mean it’s bad, right? Besides, not all Dark Iron Tribe members are crazy. Ironforge also has Dark Iron Dwarves!"
Mentioning the Dark Iron Dwarves in Ironforge, Jesse remembered the group of Dwarf Warlocks that Zardeth had mentioned.
At that moment, a female dwarf sommelier brought two cups of beer over, said something in Dwarven, Greed glanced at the sommelier, exchanged a few words in Dwarven, the female sommelier smiled and said something.
Even though Jesse didn’t understand a word, he felt like he was beginning to understand what they meant.
"You go sleep on your own tonight, little Jesse," Greed took a sip of his drink and said, "Clearly, the reputation of the fishing master has won over that lady for me."
Jesse glanced at the woman dwarf whose age he couldn’t tell, then sighed and nodded, saying, "Okay, have fun."
"Feeling jealous, imp?" Greed asked.
Jesse said emotionlessly, "I’m worried you’ll drink too much tonight. We are setting off early tomorrow morning and we need to save time as this journey is really far."
"Got it, just two more drinks for me," Greed nodded and asked, "What about you, don’t you want to have some fun?"
Jesse thought to himself, finally getting a break from Molofeel’s grasp for a few days, and now finding no fun at all.
"Let’s talk about that later, Greed." Jesse glanced at the people in the tavern and said, "There are some mages from Wizard’s Sanctum in Menethil Harbor investigating the Dragonmaw Orcs. Tonight, I plan to ask them about the Orcs and if there are any dangers on the way to Dun Algaz."
Greed exclaimed, "There are mages from your place here? I didn’t notice last time I was here."
Jesse nodded and looked around the tavern, then suddenly spotted a tall figure in a dark red cloak in the corner.
The cloak looked very expensive, adorned with magical symbols on the edges, made of beautiful material – clearly a mage.
Is that Morganth? Or another mage from the Wizard’s Sanctum, or the master sent from Dalaran to investigate the Wetland Orcs together here?
"You go ahead and eat, Greed, I’ll go talk to that person."
Greed took a sip of wine, glanced back in the direction Jesse pointed, and nodded.
Jesse walked to the counter behind the mage, and whispered, "Excuse me for interrupting…"
The cloaked figure turned to look at Jesse upon hearing the voice, surprisingly it was an elf.
Beneath the cloak, he wore a fitted dark red robe, showing off his exaggerated muscular build. Additionally, the long red-hilted sword hanging from his waist made Jesse uncertain if this person was a mage.
Such attire wasn’t uncommon among elven nobles.
"Are you a mage?"
"Yes, human, I come from Dalaran."
The elf had a deep voice, which meant he was probably quite old. Elves’ ages are hard to tell just by looking at them, but their voices can give a clue. Also, he spoke in a common language without any Sayaad Language accent.
"I come from Stormwind, and I am a wizard at the Wizard’s Sanctum."
"I could tell," the elf lowered his gaze slightly, raised his long eyebrows and said, "Ah, you are Jesse Seso."
Jesse hesitated for a moment and replied, "Um, Master, have we met before?"
The mage spoke softly, "Others may not notice that demon sword, but it cannot escape my eyes. I didn’t expect to meet you here. I’ve heard quite a lot about you!"
Seeing Jesse looking a bit nervous, the elf smiled and said, "Don’t worry, Mr. Seso. As far as I know, the sword’s previous owner has agreed with Mrs. Vereesa Windrunner to give it to you. So, you won’t have any trouble, whether it’s from me or anywhere else."
Overwhelmed by the unexpected information, Jesse took a moment to process and then said, "Thank you for telling me all this, Master. It does reassure me a lot."
"So, do you have any difficulties?" the elf asked.
Jesse replied, "I’m actually planning to travel to Loch Modan, so I wanted to ask about the Orcs on the way."
The elf nodded and said, "According to the investigation of Orcs by your Wizard’s Sanctum, now is a good time if you are planning to pass through Dun Algaz. Although remnants of the tribe may be hiding in the nearby mountains or deep in the wetlands, I don’t think you need to worry too much. There are Ironforge’s dwarf cavalry patrolling the road now, and the Orcs are not eager to expose themselves yet."
"That’s enough for us, Master," Jesse said.
"Then I wish you and your dwarf companions a safe journey, Mr. Seso," the elf said, lifting the honey wine in his hands.
"Same to you, Master."
Jesse nodded and returned to Greed’s table.
"How did it go?" Greed asked. "Are there any Orcs? Anyway, I didn’t encounter any Orcs last time I went."
"He said no, but if we are going, we should start our journey in a couple of days," Jesse said.
"Can we trust what he said? Is he a mage from Wizard’s Sanctum? He looks like some kind of noble knight," Greed muttered.
"He said he came from Dalaran, so he should be from Kirin Tor."
"Should I? You didn’t ask him who he is?"
"No, I feel like he doesn’t really want to tell me."
That’s true, but Jesse already had a pretty good guess in mind.
The Elf Mage from Kirin Tor, who knows about the original owner of the Azuresong Mageblade – a certain blue dragon, could easily see that he was carrying the Azuresong Mageblade, and was concerned about the Orc in the wetlands.
He looked up at the mage who had just spoken, and the mage leaned against the counter looking over at him, slowly lifting his cup to take a sip. His face was completely hidden under the hood.
If Jesse’s guess was correct, then it would be Krasus, or rather, Korialstrasz, the Red Dragon disguised as an Elf Mage.
He was one of the six members of the Kirin Tor council, and also the mate of the Red Dragon Queen Alexstrasza. It was certain that he had come here to investigate the connection between the Dragonmaw Orcs and the missing Red Dragon Queen.
Moreover, he was clearly getting very close to the truth, that is, Grim Batol.
If he really was Krasus himself, having him notice the sword Jesee was carrying… was as normal as it could be.
Forget about weapons, this person might be able to see right through that I’m actually a warlock who only uses Shadow Magic when bored, he just doesn’t care if I use Arcane or Shadow.
At that moment, the waiter brought a piece of fish, Greed raised his fork and said, "Why not try this, Jesse, I personally caught this!"
Jesse absentmindedly nodded as he held the spoon, after all, it was a real giant dragon.
