Chapter 354: Directions, Wetlands
Since the departure time is set, Jesse needs to speed up his preparations.
In the afternoon, he went to Ursula’s place and brought four bottles of Nature Protection Potion that he made, along with two bottles of Healing Potion and two bottles of Mana Potion she gave him for free. He also prepared a bag of secret recipe cool drinks for him to cool off in the desert.
When Jesse left The Slaughtered Lamb, he opened the bottle and smelled a refreshing scent, somewhat like mint but not quite the same, however, it didn’t have much effect in the somewhat cloudy Mage Quarter.
In the evening, he brought Aarna out from the stables, getting her ready to ride around and shop for something the next day.
This beautiful horse was indeed eye-catching, taller than any horse he had ridden before, even looking majestic in front of the mounted guards at the gates of Stormwind.
Aarna seemed to enjoy prancing past these warhorses with her head held high. Jesse rode her around the walls and towards the gates. Before he could guide her in the direction of the gate, Aarna couldn’t wait and dashed off in that direction, heading straight towards the warhorses.
Jesse was a little worried when Aarna suddenly ran into the cavalry, so he quickly guided her to the side. Aarna reluctantly slowed down her pace and passed in front of the cavalry.
The soldiers didn’t say anything, but the horses snorted and shook their heads, trying to get Aarna’s attention. When they reached the street, Jesse ordered Aarna to stop, and she obediently walked beside him. She seemed much calmer than when she first saw King Varian in the palace garden.
Jesse felt that riding in the rain a few days ago helped both him and Aarna get used to each other gradually. Aarna must like the rain and walking in it. Jesse also enjoyed the rain, except for getting his clothes wet.
When it rained outside and he had nothing to do at home, Jesse liked to go out and feel the rain on his bare chest, especially in the summer and autumn seasons.
When they returned home, Jesse tied the horse downstairs for the night and told Molofeel to keep an eye on it to prevent any issues with Aarna.
Jesse no longer wanted succubus Charm to influence her, as Shadow Magic could affect both humans and animals.
After using it on the horse from the Mage Quarter last time, he felt something was off.
For Aarna, he preferred building a genuine and familiar relationship rather than forcing anything with magic.
Riding a horse around Stormwind was much more efficient, and having the horse carry the things they bought made it easier.
Jesse mainly needed to buy ship food, some paper, ink, spare shirts, and pants. Since he was going to swamps and deserts, he guessed he might need extra clothes. Thelsamar, as a dwarf town, probably didn’t have clothes that fit him well.
Menethil Harbor wasn’t a big port, they might run out of supplies, so he decided to prepare as much as possible in Stormwind.
On the morning of departure, Jesse arrived at the harbor with his luggage. The weather had finally cleared up, with not a cloud in sight on the horizon. It was a good sign.
The harbor was quite deserted that day. Jesse wondered if he had forgotten anything at home. The demons were taken care of, his teacher and the basement were all set, the horse was back at the stable, and the door was locked…
Suddenly, he saw a dwarf with braided hair waving at him from afar, standing next to a medium-sized sailboat made in Stormwind.
"I brought two bottles of Nature Protection Potion for you, Greed." Jesse took out the potions from the vials Ursula had given him and handed them to the dwarf. "Keep them safe," he said.
"What do you use Nature Protection Potion for?" the dwarf asked.
"Rockjaw Trogg," Jesse replied.
"I think it’s better to use some kind of potion that toughens your skin, like Ironskin or Shield potion…I can’t remember the name, but that one is more effective against Rockjaw Trogg. They’re tough fighters, just like us dwarves. Nature Protection Potion…"
"I think you are already good at close combat, Greed," Jesse said. "Get ready with some special potion to defend against Rockjaw Trogg’s magic. Even though there are only four bottles, they are really expensive, so please be careful with them."
Greed narrowed his eyes and replied, "Of course I know. We need to use Liferoot for this, but it sounds like you already know a lot about the situation in that excavation site. Does the library in the Wizard’s Sanctum have detailed information on the unexplored ruins of Bronzebeard and Dark Iron Dwarves?"
"The library doesn’t mention what’s inside, but is Rockjaw Trogg an intelligent creature?" Jesse asked.
"Probably similar to Gnolls, maybe a bit smarter," Greed said.
"Even Gnolls have Shamans. Shouldn’t we be cautious that Rockjaw Trogg, who is closer to the mountains and caves, also has Shamans?" Jesse asked. "Have you forgotten the time you were struck by lightning by that Orc at Lake Everstill?"
"Okay, okay, I know," Greed hurriedly replied.
Jesse looked into his eyes, thinking that he had finally made an excuse.
"In any case, it’s better to be safe than sorry."
Greed nodded and said, "I have brought a few bottles of minor Healing Potion, mainly to deal with the dangers on the swamp road."
"I promised my Alchemist that I would meet the Mire Beast in the wetlands," Jesse said.
"Oh?" Greed asked, "Do you really want to go searching for the Mire Beast? I strongly advise against it. Have you already promised someone else?"
"I don’t necessarily have to go looking for it, isn’t it on the way?" Jesse said, "She needs something from inside the Mire Beast’s body for a new medicine experiment. Are Mire Beasts very dangerous? Have you ever dealt with this kind of monster before?"
"I haven’t personally dealt with one, just heard some rumors," Greed said. "But are you really planning to enter a swamp and hunt the Mire Beast? I think it’s more like it’s waiting for you to enter its territory, then hunt you. Even when the Wildhammer tribe ruled the wetlands, my elders didn’t dare easily venture deep into the swamp to provoke these mysterious creatures. Jesse, I think you should be more honest."
Greed’s words made Jesse curious about what the Mire Beasts here actually look like.
In the game, Mire Beasts are almost like a huge, moving lump of green vegetation. They walk with a limp, slowly, and feel not very threatening.
Of course, that’s just in the game. Thinking about the Wildkin in Hinterlands, which are unimaginably tall compared to the game, immediately made Jesse feel it was better to listen to Greed’s advice.
Garrett mentioned looking at the dwarf sailors on the dock and said, "If it were me, I would go to Thelsamar and ask if any merchants sell the things you mentioned, the stuff inside the Mire Beast’s body. If that can really be made into medicine, Bronzebeard would also be interested."
Jesse nodded and said, "I hope so, and I hope it’s cheap."
