Chapter 353: Souvenir
After giving the Liferoot to Ursula, Jesse learned some alchemy skills with Ursula in the afternoon, and then went home with Molofeel when it got dark.
When they reached home, Jesse couldn’t escape and had to go along with Molofeel, knowing he wouldn’t need to use any magic the next day anyway.
Thinking about burning the milk cup in front of Amy during the day, Jesse decided it was better to let succubus handle his powers, so he just lay down and let her have her way without getting knocked out.
The next morning, Jesse woke up and glanced out of the window, realizing it was almost noon.
Sitting on the bed, Molofeel said, "Master, I feel your powers have grown much stronger than before, it’s quite a task to keep them under control…"
"Really?" Jesse turned around and asked, "Are you sure?"
"Absolutely," Molofeel said, "And quite noticeably… I was really satisfied last night."
"I don’t need you to use such strange methods to see it!" imp climbed onto the table and said, "I’ve sensed Master’s powers getting stronger for a while now! Able to perform more and more magic!"
"Ha." Molofeel squinted and said, "My senses are much more accurate than yours, I can taste every bit of Master’s progress, can you?"
"Yes, you’re strong and powerful. In the future, you can help translate spells for the master!"
"Then you really can go back to the Twisting Nether, you waste."
"Shame on you! You’re just a lazy creature who only knows how to seduce the master!"
"You’re a piece of yellow snot!"
"Ah!!!"
The two demons started arguing about their usual topic again, but Jesse was already used to it.
He remembered the night when he was practicing the Shadow Shield with Greed in the forest, and he realized that his energy was not consumed as quickly as before.
Maybe, as Malin had mentioned before, his energy was being exercised during the continuous spellcasting. His experience with Vereesa on the journey to Burning Steppes should have brought a lot of growth.
"Stop, stop, both of you," he said. "Take care of the house, I need to go out for a while."
"Yes, master!" imp said eagerly. "I will definitely complete your task!"
"So, you can only guarantee this." Molofeel said scornfully.
Today, Jesse planned to visit a grocery store in the trade district to see if they needed to buy anything for their trip to the wetlands. However, the weather had been bad for the past few days, and it started drizzling when they arrived at the trade district.
But Jesse had already prepared a cloak. They continued on their way and as they neared Old Town, they spotted a familiar figure doing knee exercises on the steps of a clothing store.
"Hey, Greed, is that you? Why are you getting wet in the rain here?"
Greed lifted their hood and saw Jesse. "It’s you! I was actually planning to buy a new leather jacket. The old one got damaged by a crocodile bite and it’s not worth repairing. What are you up to?"
"Just buying some things. How did the dragon items I gave you to sell go?" Jesse asked.
"There’s still a piece of dragon scale left. Some say they can’t even tell it’s a dragon scale anymore." Greed questioned, "Tell me the truth, did you use some strange magic to kill the dragon? They say this scale has lost all its magic, it’s like a piece of copper now."
"Lower your voice, we’re out in the street…" Jesse leaned in and whispered. "That’s impossible, all the scales I brought back were carefully selected."
But despite saying he carefully chose them, Jesse was actually very tired from not sleeping or eating for a long time, on top of just recovering from the burn of the real Shadow Flame. His ability to recognize things was really not guaranteed.
"Well, then what about the others?"
Greed said, "I sold seven gold coins, Jesse, and also, I made you a dagger, take a look."
The dwarf pulled out a dagger made of dragon teeth from behind and handed it to Jesse, saying, "Look, it’s so beautiful. Jesse, the quality of this tooth… words can’t describe it. My friend, who is a skilled knife maker, made it for me for free. He said he hadn’t worked with dragon teeth in a long time. This tooth is really great, I just couldn’t bear to sell it directly. Let’s make it a memento, that dragon, you killed it, right? At least you killed it with Vereesa. Remember that dragon we encountered in Southshore? This is definitely another one of your feats. I know you don’t care about the title of Dragonslayer, if it were me, I would have boasted about it all over the world long ago, but it would be such a waste to sell something you’ve worked so hard to get!"
"Of course, this was my own idea. If you really want to sell it, this dagger is worth more than the dragon tooth itself."
Jesse took the dagger, nodded and said, "Thanks, Greed. I won’t sell it. I’m not as indifferent as you think. I just got used to avoiding trouble. This dagger means a lot to me."
"Speaking of which, it’s getting harder and harder to surpass you, Jesse." Greed chuckled, "I should find an opportunity to solo kill a mature black dragon in Burning Steppes."
After saying that, Greed burst into laughter, and Jesse, with a straight face, looked at him. He couldn’t even hold back his own smile after saying that.
After laughing, Greed chuckled and said, "Just think, facing a black dragon makes even the wetlands seem less terrifying."
Jesse put the knife in his belt, wrapped himself in a cloak, and asked, "Is the Wetlands close to Grim Batol?"
"Huh?" Greed asked, "You’re not wrong. Grim Batol is indeed in the mountains to the east of the Wetlands, but you’re underestimating the size of the Wetlands. The distance from that mountain to Menethil Harbor may be even farther than from Menethil Harbor to Stormwind. Dwarves call it the Great Wetlands for a reason."
"That far?" Jesse asked in amazement.
"Of course, and that mountain… is a vast and difficult place to traverse." the dwarf sighed. Jesse asked, "Does that mean from Menethil Harbor to Loch Modan is…?"
Greed said, "We’re not heading east all the way. We’re going south along Khaz Modan, I mean the real Khaz Modan, where Khaz Mountain and Ironforge are located. It’ll take about four to five days to reach Dun Algaz on that road. When you get close to Dun Algaz, you should encounter Ironforge’s patrollers. Once you pass through there, Loch Modan’s situation should be much better than the Wetlands."
"Are there many Ironforge soldiers at Dun Algaz?" Jesse asked.
Greed nodded, "Of course, just last year, Dun Algaz was held by a group of Orcs, Jesse. The Bronzebeard Dwarves only reclaimed it before the Feast of Winter Veil. It’s a key passage between Loch Modan and the Wetlands. When I was there, the dwarf soldiers were still fortifying the defenses, to prevent any escaping Orcs from launching another attack. Fortunately, the route from Menethil Harbor to Loch Modan is now open again."
"I asked a messenger who came from Ironforge yesterday, so it should still be safe. But we should still be cautious. Who knows where the Orcs might be hiding, waiting for Dun Algaz’s defenses to weaken?"
"When can you set off, Jesse?" he asked, "I’m feeling pretty good right now and should be ready to leave soon."
"Let’s do it the day after tomorrow," Jesse said. "I need to talk to the people in the Mage Quarter."
Greed said, "I’ll go to the port in the afternoon to buy a boat ticket."
