Chapter 348: The Church’s Concern
After two days of rest, the warlocks of the Dagger Association agreed to gather in the basement of The Slaughtered Lamb to summon the succubus again on that day.
She planned to report to Malin in the morning, as she had not been able to see her teacher since returning from Booty Bay.
It had been gloomy for these two days, but it had not rained until reaching the Mage Quarter.
Arriving at the study, Jesse folded her cloak and saw Malin standing at the door talking to a man dressed as a priest.
The priest seemed unfamiliar, but it immediately reminded Jesse that her illness had been cured, yet she had not reported back to the Cathedral of Light.
Despite having told the priest at the cathedral that she had brought the Restorative Potion to another place, nearly a month had passed and she should still explain to the cathedral.
However, it seemed she did not need to go, as this person was likely here to inquire about the situation.
"Master." He looked at Malin, and both of them looked this way. Malin said, "Mr. Seso, I’ve heard about your situation from Amy. While you were away, the monks from the church came twice asking about you!"
The priest looked somewhat young, nodding slightly he said, "I am Friar Martin from the church. May the Holy Light bless you, Mr. Jesse Seso. It’s good to see you’re doing well. But I heard from Master Malin that you went south to the kingdom to seek a cure, is that correct?"
"Yes," Jesse replied.
"Let’s go inside and talk," Malin said, leading the two inside the house.
Before the priest could even settle, he eagerly said, "Mr. Seso, I know that Teacher Fadin has probably already informed you about the curse of the Death Knight. You are aware that Archbishop Alonsus Faol has been seeking a cure for this disease. So… we have been closely following your situation. Since Master Malin mentioned that you went to seek a cure, may I ask about the results?"
"Following the church’s diagnosis of the Deathmantle Curse, I believe I have been cured, Friar Martin," Jesse admitted. "It has been a long time since I last used a Restorative Potion for purification or sought the help of a priest. Until now, there are no signs of any decay odor on me, or any other discomfort."
"Have you tried smelling the scent of light chrysanthemum tea again?" the priest asked.
When mentioning this tea, Jesse felt that he should also discuss the priest from Booty Bay with the Holy Light Church. After all, that priest is a church member, and it was only right to inform them. Even if King Varian couldn’t provide help, there should be someone in the church willing to lend a hand.
However, as he was about to mention his experience with the tea leaves in Booty Bay, he immediately stopped himself.
It’s better not to mention appearing in that place by yourself.
"Smell it." Jesse said. "My friends and I have already tried it, master."
"So, what’s the specific method?" Malin couldn’t help but ask. "How did your friend help you get cured? I’m very interested, besides mentioning the church."
"Actually, it wasn’t his method." Jesse said. "He just bought a product from the goblins in Booty Bay… A magic potion that can turn people into undead creatures."
The priest nodded. "I seem to have heard of this thing before. There were rumors that goblins brought a medicine from Kalimdor, some people bought it at a high price to resist the curse of death. But rumors of troll witchcraft and ancient Highborne lost magic have always existed…"
"But now Mr. Seso has been cured." Malin said. "Shouldn’t the church purchase some of that medicine to try to cure the soldiers in the alliance who are still suffering from this disease?"
"I’m afraid my teacher and the bishops at the cathedral won’t have much trust in this kind of medicine…" the priest said.
Malin tapped her fingers on the table, saying, "Lives are at stake, especially people killed by this curse may turn into terrifying spirits and harm others around them. I don’t see the need to worry about side effects, even if it’s from this strange medicine."
"How much loss is there if faked deaths become real deaths?"
"The master makes sense," nodded Priest Martin. "I will go and report to Teacher Fadin truthfully. I won’t delay you two mages any longer. May the Holy Light bless those still troubled by the curse."
"Blessings of the Holy Light, monk," nodded the old mage.
"May the Holy Light bless us," Jesse said.
The young priest stood up and left the study. Suddenly, Jesse remembered he hadn’t mentioned the monk from Booty Bay, so he quickly ran back to the door.
"Friar Martin! I have another matter, about Booty Bay."
The priest turned and asked, "Booty Bay? Is it also related to that potion?"
"No," Jesse said. "Does the church know there’s another priest in Booty Bay, helping a group of kingdom wanderers to hide there?"
"I’m not very familiar with this," Priest Martin said.
"I’m not sure how many people are there, maybe tens, maybe hundreds, or even more, including some children," Jesse said. "I have tried to report this to the king, but haven’t heard back yet."
"I remember, Mr. Jesse Seso," said Priest Martin. "You are a kind person, sir. I believe you can successfully cure the deadly Deathmantle Curse because the Holy Light sees your compassion for the weak."
"Thank you, Holy Light," Jesse replied.
Regardless, Priest Martin seemed like a good person and should inform the church about this matter, or at least remind them.
Since Alonsos Fao has the money to rebuild the impressive Cathedral of Light, it should not be difficult for him to hire a ship to bring his people back.
Back in the room, Malin raised an eyebrow and asked, "Have you managed to get the recipe for that potion?"
"I am studying with my friend, master," Jesse said as he sat on his own little stool. "But we haven’t made any progress yet."
"Maybe I can help too," Malin offered.
"He bought the potion. I will go ask him about it," Jesse replied.
Malin nodded and suggested, "Shouldn’t we continue learning another spell? Have you been practicing Scorch Curse diligently for these two months?"
"Yes," Jesse said. "Master, I used Scorch Curse to defeat a Wyrmkin Fire Mage!"
This level may not be outstanding, but it’s still quite accomplished, right?
"Well said," Malin leaned back in his chair and asked, "After this period of learning, is there any spell you want to learn?"
