Chapter 346: The Devil’s Fearful

After hearing the succubus’s command, the people in the room didn’t immediately move, perhaps because the succubus had influenced too many people at once and her power was weak.

"No… he is not a creature." Ursula whispered, "Jesse, why…"

"She’s messing with our minds, darn demon, I’ll kill… kill…" Erlan beside Zardeth murmured, rubbing his forehead.

Surena lifted a bottle from somewhere and ran over, but Jesse kicked her in the ribs, causing her to sit on the ground in pain.

Jesse focused his mind to avoid being charmed; the succubus in front of him was strong. If she managed to influence him, everyone in the room would be in trouble.

And now, her attention was clearly on herself.

The succubus sensed the threat from the person in front of her and immediately grabbed Zardeth’s neck. Zardeth tried to stop her by gripping her wrist but was too weak.

"Let him go," Jesse said.

"You are quite interesting, human," the succubus said with a smile. "Maybe I should serve you instead of him, are you interested?"

"Do you think you deserve it?" Jesse snorted coldly. "Release this person now, or else…"

"Or else what, kill me?" the succubus whispered. "Do you think that poses any threat to a demon like me? Go ahead and try, maybe I can’t defeat you, but all I need to do is give a command, and these people will start killing each other. Can you stop them?"

Seeing Jesse looking at the expressions of the people beside him, the succubus said, "Ah, I was right, you do care about them. I like this feeling, human, no matter how powerful a mortal is, they always have someone they care about…"

"You also have things to fear, Sayaad."

Speaking in the Demonic language, Jesse was not fluent in Demonic, but he should be able to convey what he wanted to say.

"So you not only know how to recite spells in Eredun, warlock," the succubus responded in Demonic. "Who taught you?"

"A huntress of succubi," Jesse said. "She will come to see you."

"Oh, you’re lying…" the succubus said, then suddenly realizing something, she looked panicked and said urgently, "No, that’s not right…"

Just then, Zardeth suddenly reached out and grabbed her by the neck!

The succubus realized her magic had failed, and immediately struggled to try to break free from Zardeth’s control.

"Hold her down!" Jesse shouted.

Erlan next to them also snapped out of it, and together with Jesse, they helped Zardeth hold down the demon. In the chaos, Zardeth slipped a dagger into the succubus’s heart, finally stopping her madness.

"Ah, darn it," Erlan looked at the dagger and said, "Now we can’t sell it for money, Zardeth…"

"You’re still thinking about money?!" Jesse asked, "Didn’t you see what just happened?"

"Jesse… I didn’t do nothing, right? I resisted the demon’s magic!" Erlan quickly responded.

"Well, I guess you did… kind of."

It must be said, Erlan at least kept his own will.

Zardeth looked at the succubus’s body and gasped a few times, saying, "It seems I wasn’t prepared… Jesse, thank you very much."

Jesse took a deep breath, then exhaled and said, "Next time before summoning, we should think about how to deal with the succubus’s Charm magic."

"She actually managed to influence all of us at once." Ursula held her head and said, "I wonder if the Shadow Protection Potion will work, or if I should find some magic potions to strengthen my willpower."

"I was not unaware of the succubus’s abilities." Zardeth leaned against the wall and said, "I thought I could use my willpower to counter her with magic like Fear, but I didn’t anticipate the strong negative effects that summoning magic would bring to me."

"I’m sorry, Jesse." Surena whispered, holding her chest, "I… I don’t know what I was thinking."

"Don’t worry, Surena." Jesse helped her up.

"Thank you, everyone, let’s call it a day for now." Zardeth looked at the wounds on his ribs and said, "I need to treat the wound. Erlan, are you hurt?"

Erlan looked at himself, waved his hand and said, "I’m fine."

"So what about this demon’s body?"

"Just leave it to me!"

Erlan picked up the body and walked towards the storeroom, while Surena told him to put the demon’s body in another empty room where not many people go, so that the demon’s blood wouldn’t dirty the storeroom’s things.

"Jesse, you were actually the one who summoned her first, you don’t seem to be afraid of her magic…" Zardeth said.

Jesse looked over, not saying anything yet, then Zardeth seemed to suddenly realize something and asked, "You have already summoned a succubus, right? So you know that succubus’s weakness, said a few words to make her submit…"

Jesse nodded.

Zardeth asked, "When did you summon the succubus?"

"Before Gakin died," Jesse said. "I’m sorry, I had planned to fully understand the spell before doing anything, but Gakin’s situation…"

"Now I understand your hesitation," Zardeth said, touching the wound on his neck where the succubus had grabbed him. "But how did you enslave the succubus you summoned?"

"The demon’s true name," Jesse said.

Zardeth thought for a moment and said, "So… what that guy Mor’zul said was true. I used to think it was just a story passed among demon researchers. Holding the so-called true name of a demon is like having control over their weak spot. But it must be difficult to make demons reveal their secrets, right?"

"Either make them unable to refuse, or exchange what they want," Jesse said.

Zardeth looked at the demon’s blood flowing on the ground and said, "These demons are not afraid of death. They claim death is just a normal cycle. So how can we make them willingly give us their names? I’m not really keen on seeking advice from those Dark Iron Dwarves anymore, those arrogant fellows… They only reveal some simple spells. I believe they must know the secret of demon names, but they’ve never mentioned it to Gakin and me."

Jesse said, "Zardeth, even though these demons aren’t afraid of death, we can summon them here and figure out a way to trap them, then let my succubus torture them until they submit and honestly give us their names."

"That does sound feasible," Zardeth asked, "So the succubus is only afraid of you doing this, that’s why it’s scared of you?"

Jesse said, "Succubi are experts in abusing and tormenting others, they know that best. Zardeth, I will find a way to bring my succubus into the Mage Quarter, to The Slaughtered Lamb here, to help us summon other demons."

Zardeth nodded and said, "But I need some rest before attempting it again. I’m quite drained, plus that succubus’s magic…"

"Let me help you back to your room," Jesse said.

"Thank you!"
