Chapter 344: Aarna in the Rain
Early the next day, Jesse arrived at the Mage Quarter, and just as he caught sight of the tower top of the Wizard’s Sanctum, it started to rain.
He ran all the way to the top floor and took shelter in the tower doorway, where many apprentice wizards were also seeking refuge from the rain.
Jesse patted the water dripping from his hair, glanced at a few apprentices beside him, exchanged morning greetings, then he clearly heard an apprentice across the hallway turn to their companion and say, "It’s him."
"That person… right?"
"Yes."
Hearing these words, he felt uncomfortable staying there any longer.
His hair was still wet, but he didn’t care, he walked all the way up to Andromath’s office. After squeezing through the door with a few other people, he saw Andromath sitting behind his desk, sorting through stacks of yellowed papers.
"Jesse? What brings you here?"
"Master Andromath, I’ve come to get my apprentice mage emblem."
"Yes, why are you so late?"
Andromath set down what he was holding, then pulled out a small purple box from a cabinet behind him and handed it to Jesse. He then glanced at his dripping hair and asked, "Is it raining outside?"
"Yes, Master," Jesse said, "Just arrived not long ago."
"I was thinking of reminding you to go check on Aarna," Andromath said, "But now it’s raining so heavily, that mare probably won’t want to come out for a walk with you."
"I doubt she would even want to talk to me even if it’s not raining at all," Jesse joked.
Andromath smiled and said, "Even though King Varian said she has a bad temper, she’s quite well-behaved in the stable in the Mage Quarter. Maybe it’s because of the change in environment."
Jesse remembered the conversations he overheard among the students in the Wizard’s Sanctum earlier, and couldn’t help but ask quietly, "Master Andromath, do all the students in the Mage Quarter know what I did now?"
Andromath replied, "Even if the news from the palace hasn’t leaked out, the news from Ironforge has come over. A young mage from the Wizard’s Sanctum assisted Windrunner in hunting down Teron Gorefiend. But I remember reminding you to be prepared."
Jesse looked at the "Seso" inscription on the ring in the box and said, "I understand, Master."
Leaving the magic tower, the rain outside became heavier, with thunder rumbling in the sky. Under the rain curtain, it was almost impossible to see clearly the small door of Malin’s study from the high tower, even the tree wall in the garden looked blurred.
Jesse put on the ring, took shelter under the eaves on either side of the road, and walked towards the city wall on the other side of the Mage Quarter. Despite the rain, he still wanted to go see the horse.
Carefully following the rainwater flowing down, Jesse slid along the slippery stone steps to a small door under the city wall. Walking along the wall, he arrived at the horse stable administrator’s house. Knocking on the door, the plump administrator peeked out and asked, "May I help you, sir?"
"Hello, I’d like to visit the horse stable. Can you show me around, sir?" Jesse asked.
The administrator inquired, "Are you planning to ride a horse out? Let me see your credentials, mage."
"There is a horse of mine in the stable," Jesse said. "I want to check on her."
Glancing at Jesse, the administrator said, "We must have met before, but I don’t recall you leaving your horse here. I am familiar with the owners of the horses here. When did you bring your horse here?"
"It was just a few days ago," Jesse replied.
"A few days ago?" The administrator nodded as if recalling something and said, "Is it the black one? Brought from the palace here?"
"Yes."
"Are you Jesse Seso?" He asked with a suspicious look, "Were you the one who defeated the Riverpaw Gnoll’s Great Chief, who kept saying ‘Hogger, Hogger, Hogger, and was a tall black monster over two meters tall?"
"Yes, it is me, sir."
"Let me see the ring, Mr. Seso," said the administrator with a smile, looking at the emblem handed over by Jesse, the apprentice mage. "Oh, I didn’t expect you to be so young. By the way, I am a bit worried that Riverpaw Gnolls might attack this area someday, since I don’t live within the tall city walls. Do you think Gnolls and Orcs are allies?"
"To go against us, they can certainly join forces," Jesse replied.
The administrator nodded, put on a dark gray linen cloak, locked the door, and headed towards the stables, asking Jesse all the way about how he fought against Hogger in the forest.
Upon entering the stables, Jesse wiped off the rainwater from his face, gazing at the beautiful black mare in the far corner. Compared to the other horses here, she appeared stronger and more powerful.
Opening the door, the administrator said, "This lady is sponsored by the palace, is it because you personally brought back Hogger’s head? The king will definitely reward your bravery with this beautiful mare."
"It’s the claw, my companion and I brought back Hogger’s claw, his head was too heavy."
As Jesse spoke, she watched Aarna walking out excitedly from inside. While the administrator helped her with the saddle, she kept staring at the courtyard outside, showing no signs of being afraid of thunder or getting wet in the rain.
"Can I take her out for a stroll?"
"The rain outside is heavy."
"Will she get sick?"
"She is a descendant of highland warhorses, Mr. Seso, I am worried about you," the administrator said as he handed the reins to Jesse.
Taking the reins, Jesse said, "It’s okay, getting sick won’t cost much money."
Watching Jesse lead Aarna outside to the yard, the administrator exclaimed, "She is much more obedient than a few days ago, sir, have you met her before?"
"I met her at Stormwind Keep," Jesse shouted.
"Then she finally met a familiar face!" the administrator shouted.
With a light hop, Jesse easily mounted the horse, Aarna took a small step forward unexpectedly, causing him to wobble slightly.
Aarna happily trotted around the yard, Jesse felt the powerful stride of the mare, almost forgetting the discomfort of the cold, wet rain soaking into his clothes.
But the horses here are not like the horses in the game, where you can summon them with a spell and they disappear as soon as you dismount.
Varian was right, once you ride out into the wilderness, you have to take care of her yourself.
Aarna definitely couldn’t help herself and Greed get from Stormwind to Badlands. Even if she could make it past Redridge, there would be great dangers in the forest even if it’s under Gnoll occupation.
If you go to Menethil Harbor, you need to take a boat in between.
If traveling by boat is already so troublesome for people, who knows what problems might happen if horses have to take a boat. Since you’re still not familiar with her habits, it’s better not to mess around. Instead, ride around Stormwind or Goldshire first to build a bond and understanding.
