Chapter 341: Not Strong Enough

At night, Jesse carried lots of bags and followed Greed to Elwynn Forest outside the city gates.

Greed turned around to look at Jesse in the distance and asked, "I feel like you’ve changed a bit, did you get taller?"

"Everyone says that." Jesse stretched and yawned, "So maybe I did get taller."

"You look like you’re wearing higher boots." Greed glanced at the bags Jesse was carrying, "What’s in there, didn’t you have dinner?"

"Of course I did." Jesse threw one of the bags on the ground, "Inside are lots of dragon scales, plus a few dragon claws and teeth, all from young dragons. Do the dwarves there need these materials for making armor or weapons?"

"What!?"

Greed dropped his things and came over to open the bag, sniffed and said, "These are the real deal… let me ask around for you…"

"Thanks, Greed." Jesse said, "If we can really sell them for money, you can keep some for yourself."

"Are you planning to help me adventure in the territory of the Dark Iron Dwarves and still take your money?" Greed tightened his bag and walked away, saying, "Besides, these things weren’t obtained by both of us together. I won’t earn ill-gotten money, young man!"

Jesse chuckled and asked, "Do you think these materials are enough to make a piece of armor?"

"How on earth is this enough?" Greed said, "Unless it’s just for decoration, making a chest plate, adding a few dragon scales for embellishment, might make it stronger in protecting against fire magic than ordinary armor pieces."

"What about a helmet?" Jesse inquired.

The dwarf thought for a moment and said, "It might actually work. Getting a dragon horn cap or something, I can inquire about it. But will it be okay for you, a mage, to wear this thing?"

"Of course, it’s for you," Jesse said. "You can make it according to your big dwarf brain."

"For me?"

"You’re thinking too kindly, give me money."

"Then I’d rather sell it all to you." Greed tapped his head and said, "Do I need a helmet, isn’t this harder than a dragon skull?"

Jesse wanted to make a joke about how sturdy the skull is compared to dragon bones, but when he realized the other person was a Dwarf Wildhammer, he couldn’t bring himself to speak.

"Enough talking, it’s getting late, time to practice swordplay," said Greed as he drew a shiny long sword, "Look at this sword used by a Loch Modan mountaineer officer, with its beautiful dark guard, straight wide blade, perfect for a dwarf to wield."

After saying that, he looked at the leather sword sheath on this side and said with a smile, "What good stuff, show me something impressive."

Jesse grabbed the blue runic sword handle and effortlessly pulled out the sword, accompanied by a faint sound of music, the light blue Arcane glow shining brightly in the moonlight.

It was actually a bit too bright, Jesse even worried that people far away could see the blue glow emanating from the sword.

However, just as he thought about it, the glow floating on the blade quickly dimmed, as if sensing his thoughts.

"What… what enchantment is this?" the dwarf asked, "Can it enhance your magical power?"

"This sword is not enchanted," Jesse swung it back and forth, saying, "It’s just like this naturally."

"Ha," Greed chuckled, "This sword itself can emit this kind of Arcane glow, did you think it’s an Azuresong Mageblade?"

"Do you know the Azuresong Mageblade?" Jesse asked.

"Of course," Greed said. "The elf told me about the magical sword from Quel’Thalas, the Azuresong Mageblade. She said it can turn a whole garden silver-blue at night."

"And when something passes against its blade, it makes a musical sound…" Greed paused, then said, "Wait a moment… Did I hear something when you took out this sword just now?"

"This is the Azuresong Mageblade, Greed," Jesse said. "The one that elf you’re so eager to outsmart gave to me."

"Why…" Greed set down the sword and asked, "Why did she give you this?"

"Perhaps because I defeated Teron Gorefiend," Jesse said as he raised the sword. "Come on, Greed."

"Playing with this thing, huh?" Greed glanced at the sword in his hand and asked, "How do we fight with this?"

"In the end, it’s just a magical sword," Jesse swung the blade and said. "Without using its magic, it’s probably not much stronger than a regular sword."

"Fine," the dwarf mumbled, staring at Jesse’s demon sword and then lifting his own sword again.

"Now, let me see what progress you’ve made in these few months."

Jesse took steps forward and said, "Here I am!"

Greed nodded, Jesse suddenly thrust towards Greed’s chest, and Greed dodged to the side.

"Oh no…" Before he could finish his sentence, Jesse quickly struck with his sword, the blade swishing through the air, making a sudden tense sound. Dwarf parried the attack with a light swing of his sword, took a step back, and stared at Jesse, saying, "You’ve gotten stronger now, growing taller also means growing stronger?"

Jesse shrugged and said, "Strength aside, has your technique improved?"

"It’s hard to say, Jesse Seso. If you have enough strength, it can often cover up technical shortcomings. However, I still believe I can defeat you," Greed said with a smile.

"Then let’s go again," Jesse said.

"This time, I’ll be the one attacking." Greed held his swords in both hands, his short, thick legs suddenly taking a few quick steps forward, making Jesse’s heart skip a beat.

He should have expected Greed’s strength; in the forest where Hogger hid, once Greed started running, even the Gnolls couldn’t react in time.

Jesse aimed his strike to the side, Greed followed with continuous strikes. Jesse deflected Greed’s attacks a few times, but as Greed tried to strike again, his sword broke in half with a forceful swing.

Greed paused, seeing his broken sword with marks of Arcane burns on its edge.

"Not so tough, huh? You talk big for someone so small." He sighed, placing the broken sword on the ground, saying, "This sword cost thirty silver coins, and I…"

Jesse looked at the broken sword on the ground, then at his silver sword that gleamed without a scratch.

"Well, I never actually used it."

"Compensate me!"

"Pay up!"

"No more using this sword for practice! You definitely used it before, pretending you didn’t!"

"I really didn’t…"
